Why would you? ....Something's going to be mindblowing to someone if they've never heard anything like it. I'm sure most people would agree with me. It's not shocking or bizarre statement. Just a thought.

And I'm definitely not saying the music I listen to is leagues better than what anyone else listens to. Not sure how that came up.

And I still can admit if a Beyoncé song is good, too; but 15 years ago, I might have been fanatical about the song because I hadn't been exposed to any other music that struck me as an interesting.

i really really really liked green day for a year back in sixth grade. then i got into their influences and i liked those bands way better. i think most people who grew up at the time did the same thing. some got into worse bands than green day and some got into amazing bands. like i said, i still enjoy green day's first two albums from time to time.

sum 41 are shit.

plus, aaron cometbus was green day's roadie before "dookie" so that gives them extra points in my book.

I think Green Day is kind of like The Giver. It's a great book for kids, or for people who don't spend time reading. But if you actually care about reading, it's just a kid's book. Made for kids. It would be a waste to spend much time on it as adults, but it has its place.

I'm not against recommending Green Day, and I definitely think that there are some people who would appreciate them more than Screeching Weasel. It's perfectly acceptable to like any band, but after being exposed to better works, it's simply put into perspective. You don't instantly start disliking something because of that, but it's common.

Their "old" stuff was pretty good, Dookie was a great album to be honest. But "American Idiot" was a very generic and overhyped album.

I think architecture is maybe the wrong word... I don't want to say sound-scape or anything gay like that. Hmm...

You so missed when you finish and I start.

I prefer Blink 182

Fun archive read, this thread.

You all have valid points, and their recent stuff is pretty shit (there's a good argument that they should have split in 2006). But I'll defend the other albums to the death - American Idiot is literally the reason I am as invested in music as I am today, and I'll probably always be a fan.

Fuck blink-182 though.
