The Sell Phonies, but we haven't played out in forever. I did a dj gig a few months ago, but that doesn't count.

TheMadcapLaughs 10.10.2017 08:18 AM

Haven't been on here in a minute...hope you are alll well.

I'm playing music with this band Blurred Out in Oakland right now and this is our first ever single. Our sound is noisy melodic indie rock which I hope the SYG community will enjoy. Thanks!

!@#$%! 11.05.2017 01:44 PM

dammit

it wont play on my ipad somehow

Savage Clone 11.05.2017 03:27 PM

The feed gets glitchy a little while in, after which the sound is slightly off sync from the video but you'll get the point.

don’t worry i wasn’t looking— i just blasted it through the speakers and it filled the house

it’s damn great and i love it.

things were going great then i started having trouble with stutter even at 144p but that’s on my garbage internet connection + cheap phone, so i can’t hear it continuously.

i’ll retry on a different device in a moment. just wanted to stop and say this first because it’s really fucking good.

Savage Clone 11.05.2017 06:28 PM

Thanks very much for saying so. I've not been a bass player in a group before, but with Jason on guitar it really is quite satisfying to lay down the bottom end and just listen to him go. It's definitely glitchy on every device I've tried, but only for a few minutes in the middle of the set.. Maybe I can convince him to reupload the show.

Looked pretty damn good to me on the YouTube app on my iPhone. Granted, I didn’t have time to watch/listen to the whole thing in one sitting, so I skipped around just a bit to get a feel for how it played out.

You guys are *good.* like, shit man, I’ve been in several bands but never one this professional sounding. I think we kind of embraced a sloppy approach to ripping off Don Cab and Slint (or, in other cases, Television and early Costello), but had we gone for a better sound we still wouldn’t have been able to do this. Hat’s off to you. Goddamn.

I miss playing music.

Severian 11.05.2017 08:01 PM

Oh and for a first-time bassist, you’re great. It’s a really satisfying instrument when you learn to appreciate how essential low-end is to a band’s sound and style. Not something I think a lot of people know who don’t play. Bass fucking rules.

Savage Clone 11.05.2017 08:13 PM

It was easy enough in this case, but thanks very much. I've been playing guitar for 35 years, and been playing with these guys in various configurations for 20 or so, so we all know each other's styles and needs. We're in another group together too (where I play regular guitar), but in this one he drives the bus. And what a great driver he is. I love backing him up and playing the heavy riffs under his freakouts.

!@#$%! 11.06.2017 02:35 PM

i offlined his metalgazer on spottifried (were you in it?), and it’s good, but the new stuff sounds better

That one is the oldest one. And it's just him, as are most of the recorded works. Matt and I are only on the newest recording, which is up on Bandcamp. Only two pieces but one of them is pretty long. There are more, but it was hard to form a cohesive album out of them. Jason's solo recordings are all over the map. He's a very multi-dimensional musician.

When Jason moved back to Minneapolis from Fargo a while ago, we decided he should also be in Thunderbolt Pagoda. 5 people is a lot of people in a band, but it sounds pretty big with him in the mix. This is us at the same venue a year prior for the same event. I might have posted it here last year. Two songs from the set.

soooo... it streamed beautifully on my ipad this evening and it was really great.

but now with everything properly loaded i did hear some horrible glitches roughly between 15:30 and 18:00. so yeah, needs a reupload.

now not to seed any discord, ha ha ha, but from all i really like the most the sound of that fat growling bass— very very good and a ton of fun.

i’m atypical in that i generally like bass and percussion more than i do guitar, and for me it’s no exception here, except more. the guitar is great of course, but what makes me feel like the dinosaurs are roaming earth again here is that heavy heavy bass.

Severian 11.07.2017 10:52 AM

^ Like that... “dinosaurs roaming the earth.” Mos def.

I too have an atypical affection for bass and percussion. I even enjoy hearing a bass guitar carry a song, or be played like a guitar, a la Three-Mile Pilot. That is, if it’s done right.

Haven’t listened to the Thunderbolt Pagoda one yet. Will.

!@#$%! 11.09.2017 10:00 AM

yesss— i appreciate the lower range of sound— and the bass carrying a tune is why i love mingus
also
cello > violin
trombone > trumpet
etc

Savage Clone 11.09.2017 11:22 AM

Bass clarinet is definitely Superior to the useless and annoying licorice stick.

someone recorded the last 15 minutes of my set from my show saturday.

evollove 01.30.2018 09:56 AM

Cool. Was Spinal Tap your idea?

d.sound 01.31.2018 01:49 AM

more like christopher guest and rob reiner's idea? but yeah, i don't know why, i really like it. i'm going to slow it down more and add more delay trails. i usually put days of effort into my vids but this is one of my favorite things.

d.sound 02.07.2018 03:36 AM

more new stuff!

a probable track for an upcoming dvd and 10" collaboration with agreeable goldmines under new moniker VERSIONING.

more synapsids tapes and cds on the sea tone bandcamp page.

new tape, "therapsids", coming out just as soon as i can order some cassettes.

a silly 8 bit filtered sea tone retrospective in the works. this might not come to pass if it doesn't turn out the way i want.

ambient show in a couple weeks in COLUMBUS OHIO.

then it's on to work on concepts for the first VERSIONING album. i want to have a setup focused toward live playing, where my recorded songs are easy enough to replicate live while allowing for improvisation and improvising songs. i'm going to try out some beats and synthesized vocals, and dabble with remixing over a capella tracks.

adambosse 03.24.2018 01:18 PM

My Guitar/Drum noise rock duo is putting out our first record via Cuchabata Records (Montreal), and here's our first single.. we're called Fred Crackling (I'm sure everyone here gets that reference).

I'm only a little bit familiar with them, only ever having had one of their records for a short time. I do like them, but I can't claim them as much of an influence. Good band though! Thanks for listening.

Savage Clone 04.04.2018 01:02 PM

Outtakes/ recordings from the same period as the newest album. Not a cohesive "album" per se, but a full length's worth of good material nonetheless. Makes a decent companion piece to the album proper...

Hi everyone!

My band called Black Spy has released a debut album. I would be happy if you'd check it out: https://postyouthrock.bandcamp.com/

A nice gentleman from the Dutch Space Rock Facebook group and YouTube channel contacted me and asked if it would be okay to put our latest album on YouTube. I thanked him and said okay. Really nice when people do stuff like that.

Did my first ever "rock video" shoot at the infamous Illuminati pyramid of North Dakota last weekend. This is a decommissioned nuclear missile defense site with a giant radar pyramid, and it was one of the coolest places I've ever been to.

This one minute video clip is from the soundcheck, and is just the cellphone video and audio. You can see the camera drone taking off in the background. We did Hi-Fi audio and multiple camera video for this, but for now this gives a general feel of things. And the rest of the site is also incredibly cool looking. Totally worth a super long drive.

Thanks! Trying to channel the vibe of Crimson's "Red" a little on this tune.

Here is a vid of a live drone with my friend, channeling our inner Tony conrad and phill niblock. She is violin, I am electronics.
