old yamaha drum machines are great

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 04:39 PM

speaking of which, been practising the whole day with my sampler today.
i've got another gig coming up next Wednesday so it's about time to come up with some new stuff... I've made a new song today, it's dubby as hell ... in the veins of Pan American / Seefeel. Very good indeed! I've got to have another 2 ready, so that i can play my minimum of 30min gig.

al shabbray 09.20.2008 04:40 PM

sneakpreview?

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 04:42 PM

erm ... it's in my sampler and i don't have it hooked up to my pc.

I'm having a lazy Saturday, y'know

al shabbray 09.20.2008 04:44 PM

yes, lazy saturdays are always a good thing.
but please put it up if you got some time, I really dig your tunes.
and would love to listen to it live

SYRFox 09.20.2008 04:47 PM

Calvin & Hobbes for the win

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 04:51 PM

fo sho i will put it up. it's kinda complicated though since my sampler only works with the PC via the rather-ancient SCSI port which I don't even have so I have to put all the songs, samples and everything on the SmartMedia card and load it that way. which sucks.

al shabbray 09.20.2008 04:54 PM

I have to burn a cd everytime I wann export something.
I produce a lot of plastic trash that way

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:03 PM

theres no computer involved when I do my stuff. the comp is the last step to convert it to mp3.
and that usb port for my 8track is not made anymore. it was expensive like shit, around 150 euro or something.
but most of the time, I burn it just one time, copy it to my mac and store the disc as a backup. but sometimes when I am testing something, I need to trash some discs.

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 05:14 PM

so you only work with an 8track? or have more machines involved?

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:19 PM

the 8 track only functions as an 8 track. just for recording and mixing.
my main machines are a full analog minimoog clone (I love that thing) and a sampler where I arrange things where i know they will be on one track (to save some space on the 8 track), thats the only thing I use it for. and all the guitar stompboxes I love too. my signal path is kept pretty analog, only the recording itself is done on the HD 8track. a yes and some cheap mics and my geetahs/amp.

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 05:25 PM

nice. I'd wonder how much is an 8track like yours.

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:28 PM

pretty cheap. bought it off of ebay in 2005 for about 600 euros. used with rest guarantee about a year or something. should be much cheaper right now, got a build in cd burner, you can also get it without one and build any cd burner in it you want. thats pretty ace, you can use whatever you want with it. there are a lot of things that could be done better, like with all multitracks I think. but I get used to it, and would never trade it for something bigger...its my trusty 8track (to quote odd nosdam :))

_slavo_ 09.20.2008 05:31 PM

right on.
good night to you and your 8track.
gonna read a few pages of Terry Prattchet and then pass out sleeping.

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:31 PM

good night fella.
sleep well

SYRFox 09.20.2008 05:32 PM

good night slavo

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:33 PM

yeah
and so is the album of course :)
the second half of the album is awesome, 6 tracks of pure awesome bliss

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:43 PM

yes!
I really like the overall visual concept of them. it fits perfectly to their sound, rough but always some beauty underneath. I think they got something in common with the yoof about that

SYRFox 09.20.2008 05:47 PM

Yes
They're really great, I'm glad that I saw them live that summer. The drummer came to give some weird printed pictures in the public and I obtained one, I still keep it preciously :D

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:47 PM

oh thats pretty awesome, would you mind to scan it if you got time for that?
would really like to see it.

SYRFox 09.20.2008 05:52 PM

oh I'll scan it tomorrow
but don't expect much, it's nothing beautiful, just some strange ultra zoomed in black and white picture of two dudes

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:55 PM

xerox art stuff, I imagine?

SYRFox 09.20.2008 05:57 PM

sort of - depends on what you mean by xerox art

al shabbray 09.20.2008 05:59 PM

copy machine (forgot the word for it) art. like inside of confusion is sex

SYRFox 09.20.2008 06:02 PM

Hmm well you'll be the judge :D anyway it's still a great souvenir

SYRFox 09.20.2008 06:03 PM

going to bed now
it's late and i'm super tired
see you :)

al shabbray 09.20.2008 06:03 PM

I bet it is!!!
how was the gig? I imagine it very energetic...like the YYYs or something
