Another one that I got off this thread: The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.07.2011 12:49 AM

Dr. Caligari rules! What a beautiful film, seriously. The sets are so magnificent!

Sick Nurses is pretty sweet too.

I really enjoyed Tokyo Eyes! Hinano Yoshikawa performance was stellar and I must say she maybe has the most cutest/most annoying female voice in all off Japan, depends on your preference. Me, I like it! Subtle in its delivery, but heartfelt. And Beat's cameo... icing on the cake.

Masterpiece!

8/10

One of my favourite movies of the last few years. Giammati and Haden-Church make a really great comedy pairing. And hats off to the people prepared to put money behind a movie about wine tasting with no big-name stars to sell it.

LifeDistortion 02.09.2011 05:54 AM

Only the second time seeing it. Definately a movie one should see at least twice to get it all in, so many ideas being put forth. The first time I saw it, in the theatres I didn't really like it. Had a much better appreciation for it the second time around, but its no "Blade Runner".

Watched this on the ole Netflix IW. I'm a novice when it comes to these movies, only other one I've seen is "Superfly", but they are a lot of fun. I liked this one more.

batreleaser 02.09.2011 10:28 AM

finally saw "animal kingdom". maybe my favorite of 2010, with only "the social network" rivaling it.

YOUTH KILLER - 8/10

HOMICIDE - 9/10

STONE - 4/10 ... wow, this was about the most pointless ridiculous confused movie I've seen in a while.

and I've been watching:

The Brothers Grunt, a great cartoon that only recently surfaced as a complete collection on myspleen!

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.09.2011 11:10 AM

Had a double feature with a....uhhh.... friend last night. We both showed each other a film we hadn't seen before.

Agreed. I can't stand that whole "it's better than Heat", thing, that some people come out with. It's a really good film but nowhere near the masterpiece some seem to think it is.

Unlike ...

The Godfather (10/10)

An unimprovable film for me. Just perfect. An acting dream team: Brando, Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, James Caan, all right at the top of their game. And Coppola may have gone on to make some real shit, but he couldn't put a foot wrong in the seventies.

The Gofather II (10/10)

For me, this is as good, if not better, than the first one. The one film where I get all those claims for Pacino's greatness as an actor. It's still Robert Duvall who quietly steals the film, though. He really does have to be one of the most underappreciated and overlooked actors in Hollywood history.

Pelle 02.10.2011 05:12 PM

Bully - one of Larry Clarks best movies!

atsonicpark 02.11.2011 03:48 AM

This has nothing to do with movies, but the GUITAR HERO francise is dead. Sweet!

demonrail666 02.11.2011 07:19 AM

Outrage (6/10)

I'm coming at Beat Takeshi very much as a beginner and, while I didn''t dislike Outrage, I was a bit disappointed with it. I enjoyed the whole yakuza thing and I'm definitely beginning to see what all the fuss is about Beat Takeshi as an actor but, as a filmmaker, I just don't see it at all. I've got Hana-Bi lined up for later so I'll see what I think of that.

Excellent Cadavers (6/10)

Above average HBO movie about the big Falcone-Borsellino mafia trial that took place in Sicily in the 90s. It definitely looks like the made for tv movie that it is but decent nonetheless.

LifeDistortion 02.14.2011 04:44 AM

The Glory Stompers-Good motorcycle gang movie starring Dennis Hopper one year before "Easy Rider".

Pelle 02.14.2011 09:10 AM

"Hans och hennes", some lousy swedish dramafilm. urgh.

Dr. Eugene Felikson 02.14.2011 05:43 PM

I've always really liked this film ever since it first came out, and it still holds up surprisingly strong. Steve Zahn is quite an underrated actor, he's delivered powerful performances in everything I've seen him in, and this film is no different. The movie is layered with an effectively creepy atmosphere, and gives me somewhat of a chill, no matter how many times I've seen it.

I also think it's quite clever how the plot is handled. You truly feel as if you're going along with the prank of the lead actors, and therefore are actually fearful of the dreadful aftermath. The villain is terrifying, despite the audience having no clue about what he actually looks like for the majority of the film.

Very memorable. Very quotable. A thrill ride from start to finish!

UGH. I absolutely loathed Dogtooth. What a pile of ass wank-fest. Nothing new to see there, as far as I'm concerned.
