The desperation for rock n thrills that those nme types go through has spawned an unlikely influence for a band:

You must have found at least one good record store then... How was the trip anyway? Any good?
On topic, I was in Amsterdam today as well, even browsed around a couple of stores, but the only thing I bought (apart from tickets for Shellac and Slint) was the PiL Metal Box (CD).

Hey, I didn't know that one was already out yet. In case you've had time to listen to it already, any first impressions you'd like to share?

It's not out yet. It's coming out in April apparently. They had some copies there anyway. I think Keith Wood might have brought them because I paid for it and the guy had to grab a copy from Mr Wood. I listened to it on the bus back and I wasn't all that impressed. Quite noisy for them with some droney stuff later on. I get the impression the first couple of tracks may have been from ATP but I can't be sure. I'll give it more of a listen in due course though, I wouldn't want to judge it on one listen.

Yep, tis a good one. I'd downloaded it previously and had been meaning to pick up a copy of the reissuse LP. It was onl £8 in Sisterray so it would have been rude to not buy it.

the ikara cult 03.18.2007 08:33 PM

I think the last album i bought was the Klaxons album. Its got some really good singles but i dont think it works as an album. It seems rushed. However they are the most interesting mainstream band around at the minute, probably the best popular indie band theres been for a long long time in my eyes. I may have mentioned this before.

Iain 03.19.2007 05:57 AM

Won on ebay:

The nnck Ass Run lp.

Oh yeah, Distortion records on westerstraat was really fucking excellent. The place was packed with vinyl, stacks of albums lying on the floor etc...
Get records was also good.

Our trip went really well, a lot to write home about as one could put it.
Those cyclists and steep stairs in the old houses are fucking lethal though...

sonicl 03.20.2007 05:40 AM

Foetus - Hole
Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always (remaster)
Sisters of Mercy - Floodland (remaster)
Masaki Batoh - Collected Works 1995-1996
Space (The Orb) - Space

Jesus and Mary Chain - Upside Down 7"

hehe, usually tourists are complaining about the trams running straight through pedestrian areas like in the leidsestraat, but the stairs are just as dangerous indeed:

in case nobody told you, the reason for the tall and sometimes extremely narrow houses lies in the fact that in the old days property taxes where based on the width of the front of the house. length and height didn't matter, so for that reason people kept their houses narrow and tall. the narrowest house is only about a meter wide at the front!

MistyDawn 03.21.2007 10:21 AM

The last album I bought was TV on the Radio- "Return to Cookie Mountain" which is pretty cool. You have to be in the mood for it to really enjoy it.

Florya 03.24.2007 06:51 PM

Waiting for 5 different versions of TG's 'Part Two - The Endless Not' to arrive.
Apart from that I bought the Psychedelic Furs first album and 'Buena Vista Social Club' on CD yesterday. The Psychedelic Furs album is one my favourite albums of all time, and my vinyl version is nearly worn out.

Update 26/3/07:
Just received 'For Your Ears Only' a double LP compilation from 1987 on Third Mind Records featuring 'Bushido', 'Atrition', 'Konstruktivitis' and Edward Ka-Spel amongst others.

Looking forward to receiving 'Pindrop' by The Passage and 'Once upon a Time' by TG.

The Raincoats - S/T and Odyshape

I've wanted them for ages and after seeing all that stuff about Rough Trade supposedly having a bunch of left-over copies on CD I thought I'd put the theory to the test. The website still has them listed but I ordered on Friday and still haven't had a dispatch confirmation. I've mailed enquiries so we shall see...
