ha ha, seriously though-- "greek" yogurt is just a marketing invention by a turkish guy who set up a factory in new jersey. there is zero mystery to it-- no "greek" yogurt strain, no secret ancient process. just plain yogurt, minus the whey. i use an white old t-shirt to strain it.

except that i stopped doing that because it just adds more work. now i scoop direct. i'm lazy too.

the slow cooker is not to incubate the yogurt btw-- that would be too hot. the slow cooker is to heat up the milk & change the protein structure so that it coagulates nicely-- without having to watch it or the risk of boiling/burning it.

if it weren't pouring, i gotta go to publix and i know they have creme fraiche. ahh. OF COURSE IT'S RAINING NOW.

i have a pound of chopped zucchini and some peppers/onions/snap pea mix i want to use but not sure how. full avocado too. i might just make a frittata.

!@#$%! 05.13.2015 03:48 PM

the snap peas are sort of chinese (they don't have to be but i'm brainwashed). without them i'd say yes frittata, with them i'd say stir fry is also an option.

maybe fry them all together first and then decide-- on a carb or into eggs or over rice/pasta/ramen/inside a crepe.

if you have some kind of tomato you could try a ratatouille (w/ crepes/omelette). the snow peas are the weird factor here i think.

schizophrenicroom 05.13.2015 04:02 PM

yeah, it's a bag of "stir fry veggies" and i usually pick those things out anyway. i bought only a few days worth of stuff last night so i dont have anything going bad friday-sunday in the fridge, and now i have no clue what to do with it. i have tortillas, i guess. gah! but my teeth fucking hurt, so i'll probably do nothing

!@#$%! 05.13.2015 04:09 PM

dude. wtf. hurt?

cook the shit out of the vegs so they're soft. who cares how they taste. put them in a blender after. eat with eggs yes--eggs barely cooked so they're soft not chewy.

mash the avocado eat on the egg.

look for a ratatouille recipe & then modify (no tomato is good cuz it's acidic-- you don't want acidic foods now as they are hard on the enamel).

rinse will salt water/baking soda (soda not powder). see if you can do a walk-in at the clinic-- maybe someone cancels & they see you.

go first thing in the morning.

you can grind some cloves & rub where it hurts.

if you have straight-up ibuprofen that could help too.

schizophrenicroom 05.13.2015 04:14 PM

yeah, i have some. ive been gargling salt water/cayenne/turmeric and putting garlic and cloves on it, and it kinda helps.

the eggs i'm definitely doing after my work out

!@#$%! 05.13.2015 04:34 PM

okay i gotta go but this is my trick to get same-day appointments in clinics.

1) i show up early.

2) say "i have an appointment for X day but my Y is hurting so i'm here to see if there's any cancellation and you could fit me in."

3) sit on the waiting room, put on headphones/read something

4) usually get seen within the hour (people always cancel or the reception has mercy)

one last thing-- tell them NO PILLS. you know the kind. they can fuck you up. do not fear explaining why. ibuprofen should keep you.

alright best wishes & keep strong.

schizophrenicroom 05.13.2015 05:31 PM

thanks dude!

gmku 05.23.2015 06:27 PM

Grilled barbecue chicken and homemade potato salad. Malbec wine.

!@#$%! 05.25.2015 02:20 PM

homemade crackers, fresh tomato, queso fresco, parsley/garlic/oliveoil. could use an anchovy on top for maximum glory but i don't have any in stock.

rebeccagotcursedout 05.26.2015 09:14 PM

im proud to know a Mexican restaurant hole-in-the-wall that no other holy cost knows of on a sunday. they cook the best triple tacos with cilantro and onions with habanero sauce on the side. the polla asado is the best. wow the sauce they cook it in!!!

as far food goes. im so glad I've been on this only eat at lunch, eat once a day, diet for a year now. can't express how much better I feel as a human. some grain and meat and a vegetable or fruit during lunch. im not really starving myself because lunch is the most important meal I need. not hungry for the rest of the day. in my case, it's not what you eat but how much you eat. i'll splurge twice a week on whatever and indulge sometimes though. I love junk and good fast food.

if yr hungry just drink good water. if yr an alcoholic and feel yr getting too drunk....just drink good water. fresh well water if you can find it. I pay 4 dollars a gallon from someone I know who has the best well water around. it tastes like the opposite of poison. breath of fresh air.

schizophrenicroom 05.26.2015 11:17 PM

you can never have enough cilantro

i've been really big on beyond meat the past week or two, just because i hate cooking chicken. honestly, if you presented it to me as chicken and i didn't know better, i'd say it were the real thing. threw together my garlic sauce and put brussel sprouts in there too and had a good dinner.

yo there-- i'm developing a recipe for a cilantro pesto but before i share do tell about your famous dientes. what the fuck happened?

i waiting because nothing worse than getting a piece of ground-something inside gum stitches

schizophrenicroom 05.27.2015 03:04 PM

had two teeth yanked, was a chipmunk for 24 hours, i'm straight now. still kinda sore and no solid foods (got root canals friday also) but i'm alright.

well you know how to make your basic pesto yeah? basil, pine nuts (i prefer walnuts), garlic, olive oil, parmesan

fine

but basil is not always around, pine nuts are suppa-expensive, walnuts aren't cheap either, parmesan rules but you can't find good one in a regular supermarket (f you do they charge a ton).

so, i'm trying to formulate an alternative/cheaper version-- you can make it with parsley (flat only, of course), but i'm trying to go further.

so far:
-cilantro instead of basil
-peanuts instead of fancy nuts. a 2lb jar of dry roasted planter's peanuts is $5 cheap at any walmart.
-garlic too
-olive oil too
-a squish of lime to play off the cilantro/peanut
-looking for a parmesan substitute for the umami. already tried red miso but it destroyed the flavor a bit. gonna try nutritional yeast next.

so there you have it but watch your blood-jellied sockets

in the meantime have some smoothies

schizophrenicroom 05.27.2015 10:29 PM

oh shit, that sounds delicious. yeah, i'm feeling better now... not looking forward to friday but it could be worse.

i made a smoothie with lemon juice/strawberries/cayenne pepper/greek yogurt. it was fucking awesome.

that sounds good & sour!

when you get your wisdom teeth out put some avocados into that. the good fat in the avocado will stick to your ribs & keep you un-hungry when you can't chew. avocado smoothies are the greatest. oh, now i have to make one for breakfast.

schizophrenicroom 05.28.2015 01:47 PM

i have an avocado sitting waiting to be used. i have zero to no appetite today or i'd use it.

Toilet & Bowels 05.29.2015 02:25 AM

My standard breakfast:

Kale stir fried with onions and chilli flakes
2 eggs
Brown rice
Cocoa (made with unsweetened almond milk)

Normally I would have toast but I'd run out of bread so I'm having rice instead

sounds mighty! do you put soy sauce on your stir fried kale?

===

was cooking for the week today. made a bunch of stuff.

had the oven cranking and these came out in sequence:
- granola. oats, peanuts, sunflower seeds, sesame, butter & honey, cinnamon, ginger, sprinkle of coarse salt
- fresh roasted white corn. ate some with butter, the rest will get shucked.
- roasted cauliflower with turmeric and ginger
- roasted beets. when i pulled them out of the oven they where whistling.

also made some of the tropi-pesto i've been working on. has:
-cilantro
-sea salt
-dry roasted peanuts
-raw garlic
-olive oil
-fresh lime juice
-NUTRITIONAL YEAST <-- this supplants the parmesan and works great.
i'm not a vegan, but vegans should eat this stuff! better than weirdburgers and fake meats.

i fucked up by smashing the cilantro stems with the leafs. a major fuckup. almost ruined it completely. the motherfuckers are too bitter and impossible to completely chew. had to yank them out string by string. next time i'll buy 2 cilantro bunches so i have enough leaf to work with (and no more bitter stringy stems).

also cooked black beans. just with a head of garlic in them and some dulse flakes (a red seaweed). ate the garlic head afterwards.

last, making yogurt for overnight fermentation.

hot damn, i'm set for the week.

schizophrenicroom 05.31.2015 08:38 PM

i think i'm gonna make that pesto later this week.

i had two smoothies today. one was avocado/raspberries/pineapple and the other the same lemon/cayenne one. i've lost a good pound this weekend not really being able to eat anything.

schizophrenicroom 05.31.2015 08:38 PM

shoutout to KALE.

avocado creamy goodness!

if you can add some whey protein isolate to your smoothies-- i know it's a steep price for one can, but it turns out a really good value.

in my area a can of gold standard natural whey ("natural" has no weird sweeteners/flavoring agents) is $65-- costly at first but it gives you 72 scoops with 24g protein each (= about 6 egg whites?). it's a great emergency supply etc.

i mean just to make sure they weight you're losing isn't muscle.

schizophrenicroom 05.31.2015 11:40 PM

yeah, i have some whey in (but it's vanilla) for just the smoothies. i hit the gym today even just to distract myself from the mouth pain. i have a pounding headache too from it and nausea, which sucks. i'm pretty damn hungry, too.

!@#$%! 05.31.2015 11:57 PM

vanilla is great to blend all. the natural i get is vanilla. but they don't add aspartame and acesulfame k and othe stupidly unnecessary chemical shit. like msucle milk-- it tastes nasty.

some years ago i tried some of these gnc pre or post workout shakes or meal replacements or something and they gave me major assplosions, ha ha ha.

schizophrenicroom 06.01.2015 12:00 AM

muscle milk is the worst, ugh. i hate milk so the mental connection in the name alone, ugh ugh.

!@#$%! 06.01.2015 03:08 PM

made a great salad for lunch with

-roasted corn
-black beans
-crumbled cheddar
-fresh tomato
-avocado
-green onions
-lime juice
-champagne vinegar
-red chile powder
-salt, obviously (ha)

i could have used a little cilantro maybe but i had none left. still...

SOOOO GOOOOOOOD!!!

i love summer cooking. everything fresh and alive and good. my favorite for eating. all those colors.

Toilet & Bowels 06.02.2015 06:55 AM

Ok.

!@#$%! 06.02.2015 11:22 PM

this morning i made the last chocolate cake (cake flour is spent, no more till next winter) and i put less sugar than usual. used coconut oil instead of butter-- plus olive oil for the oil. came out awesome.

lunch was a bowl pasta with the now-famous cilantro pesto (ha ha).

afternoon snack a piece of the cake.

dinner was a salmon burger with a slice of grilled pinneaple and a quick red cabbage/shallot coleslaw (put too much vinegar). for appetizer the roasted cauliflower i made on the weekend-- turns out a couple of days in the fridge really help infuse the cauliflower with the spices-- they were fantastic.

i love food. food is starting to love me back, i think.

schizophrenicroom 06.03.2015 12:04 AM

i ate four tablespoons of vanilla cream cheese.then i had what's supposed to be frozen strawberry slices but it was really more like a strawberry sorbet the way they froze/thawed/refroze in the container. then earlier today at work a baked avocado with spicy mayo and tuna inside. it was awesome. i'm on a very soft diet.

!@#$%! 06.03.2015 02:18 PM

for breakfast i made turmeric rice and fried eggs.

for lunch i ate the rest of teh turmeric rice with the black beans i cooked on sunday.

to this i added this fantastic salad of red onion, lime, apple cider vinegar, red chile powder, tomato, avocado. it was... spectacular.

today at lunch i made myself cry a little with joy, ha ha ha. nah, not really, but damn, it was good. i'm seriously feeling like some aspect of my cooking is starting to level up. this thread of course has been part of the whole inspiration. thank yous.

schizophrenicroom 06.03.2015 03:17 PM

that salad sounds heavenly. i'm doing something kind of similar for dinner, i have a good bunch of veggies in the freezer to use up. all i've had today is a smoothie with whey/strawberries/bananas/yogurt.
