Finally got to check out that new Earl Sweatshirt..
I like the beats, but the entire thing just sounds kind of mix-tape level half assed.. Could have been so much better

i like that down south feel.. like I'm planting crops.. lets go man, I'm a hood ninja, everybody know me..
from throwing rocks off the roof as a lil ninja,
to bein known in the city as an ill ninja,
come and see me at my shows i'm a real ninja,
white-ts in my 3s I'm a field ninja,
nowadays everybody got a deal ninjia
everybody mean
everybody real ninja?

mang, everytime I rep it up in Church in a flannel and my folded chucks with fat laces I hear this song in my head.. (did I mention I'm also the sunday school teacher?)

I just can't NOT be me.. kids at work told me once, "You dress like a 90s rapper."

Tyler's album has 5 different covers:

i really like the left ones.

as for the album, i enjoy it for what it is. still not sure if it's better than Wolf, but it's cool that Tyler tried something different. i read in that interview which i posted a few days ago about how he was influenced by Death Grips on this album, and there are indeed some rock/noisy songs, and most of the album sounds poorly mixed in general, which i assume was his intention.

both Earl and Tyler put out cool albums. so OF is still interesting in 2015. they're getting mature now. Earl still needs to drop something that doesn't sound like a tape though.

so Thug changed the title to "Barter 6" cuz Wayne wanted to sue him.

by the way, after hearing Wayne's performance on that new Tyler album i'm getting excited for the Free Weezy Album all over again.

yeah that song is pretty great. Kanye surely did his thing, but Tyler and Wayne trading bars back and forth was my favorite part on the song, maybe the whole album.

man, im just not in a hip hop mood. it's been like this for awhile.

hearing anybody rap right now makes me want to pull hairs out my nose and scratch a place on my body for no reason out of boredom and distraction.

meh, really don't care to hear no Odd Future solo projects either. whatever.

listening to a shitload of sensational at the moment, can't think of an MC out there with balls half the size of this guy

Newsflash: you aint missing much..

Im comfortable with my complete lack of interest in "new" hiphop, there is over 30 solid years of back catelogs better worth exploring. Good rap is like discovering great late 60s bands, you don't need to start fucking with contemporary imitations when the real deal is good enough for a lifetime

I've been bumping Kendrick's new album all week. TPAB is probably rap album of the year for me so far. Joey Bada$$'s new album is a close second, imo.

I kinda like Tyler's new album, but the mixing is godawful. It's almost unlistenable for that reason.

Severian 04.15.2015 11:07 PM

I'm surprised... Cherry Bomb is actually pretty goddamn interesting, sonically. I still think I'm more or less over Tyler and Earl.:. But this album might just change my mind.

Better than I Don't Like Shit.

Severian 04.15.2015 11:10 PM

Because really, who the fuck cares about little shock-rappers and their sloth like journey into semi-maturity when Kanye and A$AP and Drake and Frank Ocean are all dropping new records this year?

I think of very little other than Kanye when it comes to music. There are some exciting new releases coming out this year, but Kanye has my full attention.

As I'm sure all of you know very very well by this point.

rebeccagotcursedout 04.15.2015 11:11 PM

I don't like I don't like shit.

rebeccagotcursedout 04.15.2015 11:18 PM

Kanye slurp fest :)

louder 04.16.2015 12:01 AM

i actually prefer Earl's album, easily.

louder 04.16.2015 12:43 AM

how y'all gon overlook Earl like that though? dude is barely 21 and already has one of the best discographies out of every newcomer in the game.

each one of his projects was different and unique. EARL was a crazy display of technical rapping. he described Doris as his Chronic 2001 / Twisted Fantasy, which makes a lot sense to me. I Don't Like Shit is far from accessible, it requires more than one listen, but now i'm totally in love with the concept and the overall sound of this project, i respect him for the fact he produced the entire thing besides one track.

the proper successor to Doris will come out sooner or later, i'm sure. Earl hasn't even made his best statement yet.

louder 04.16.2015 12:45 AM

by the way, i just read that Kendrick called Earl his favorite rapper right now.
