Dude, Gotze's 2014 late Cup-winning goal will always be one of the most epic goals ever, imo. The way he bounced off his chest into the perfect shot...at the perfect time...ugh...so good.

_tunic_ 06.25.2019 04:38 PM

I think there a wikipedia page about the Dutch versus Germany rivalry

Check it

choc e-Claire 06.25.2019 04:50 PM

Football is super unfair sometimes. I initially thought Japan were lucky to get to 1-1 at half time, but they were easily the better team in the second and should've gone through. No hard feelings though, it was an entertaining game.

In order of preference to win: Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Norway, England, Italy, France, United States.

And

Gary Lineker. His famous quote “Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans always win”

Bertrand 06.25.2019 06:01 PM

Once the Netherlands scored, they seemed to rely on keeping the ball at the back, but their defensive players are not that good.
I was a neutral talking to an Oranjed couple, surrounded by Japanese fans. The crowd was insane. Really sorry for Japan.

Love it. He's now done that for every team he's played for.

England women's are playing Norway tonight. It's gonna be interesting to see how both teams cope with the heat for sure.

I remember him doing it against West Ham for your lot. Still say it was a misplaced clearance ;)

makes me wanna start following dc united again. and it’s been aaaaaaages...

choc e-Claire 06.27.2019 03:38 PM

So we're getting either an England v France semi, or an England v USA semi. :D

Peterpuff 06.27.2019 03:43 PM

It's settled. I am moving to Norway. Between these soccer players and their snowboarders, I develop the biggest crushes on women from there...

Sorry if that makes me a sexist, blah, blah, blah. I just felt a need to express...

You are getting England v USA. We will NOT lose to France?!?!?!

Did you see the French reporter asking Tobin Heath if they would let France win? Pretty amusingly fun and light-hearted moment, I enjoyed.

I'll give you a pass. You can (should) respect them as athletes, but they are attractive, which helps. I do it too.

And honestly? I don't care about the American team. I don't care about France either, but I hate them less. I'm sorry; but you win all the time and rub it in to everyone. Allez les Blues!

Bertrand 06.28.2019 03:53 PM

Go England!

choc e-Claire 06.28.2019 04:01 PM

Haha, yeah.

You were unlucky to only get the one, but the US were the better team on the day. Unfortunately.

!@#$%! 06.29.2019 05:44 AM

sssssso... looks like i’ve been missing the copa américa and i didn’t even know!

fml...

_tunic_ 06.29.2019 05:52 AM

hmm, not sure if this should be posted here or in the oh my god how can famous people be so stupid thread :-)

Wesley Sneijder got arrested because he had been jumping and trashing and peeing over a car, and as far as I could tell from the reports he didn't know those people. Looks like he was visiting people in the same street. See video here (if you can watch that from abroad)

and this one belongs to the oh my god how can criminals be so stupid thread:

Two tons of clothing stolen at PSV, reclaimed after undercover action

EINDHOVEN - A week and a half ago, the De Herdgang training complex of PSV was broken into. In addition, three men stole the club's new clothing collection. Value: 200,000 euros. Thanks to a police action, the stuff has since returned.

The theft occurred on the night of last week Tuesday to Wednesday. This involved breaking into the changing rooms on the Herdgang. This involved, among other things, tracksuits, shirts and hoodies. The clothing is not yet on the market and is part of PSV's new clothing collection.

Fanshop PSV

While the police were investigating the theft, the PSV fanshop received a phone call from an unknown man who knew more about the theft. He said that as an intermediary for a few thousand euros he could ensure that the stolen clothing collection would come back into the possession of the football club. After consultation with the criminal investigation department, an appointment was made at a location in Gelderland [a province further north].

As a backdrop for the deal, a warehouse in Winterswijk was ultimately chosen. On Thursday afternoon, three men appeared at the shed at the agreed time: "They thought they were dealing with PSV employees, but in reality they had agreed with two civilian agents. During the meeting in the shed, the building was surrounded by agents. Our suspects were trapped, " says the police in a press release from the police.

Three men arrested

The trio could eventually be arrested. It concerns three men, 40, 41 and 47 years old. They are from Maastricht, Rijswijk and The Hague. The police do not exclude that more people are being arrested. All the stolen clothing was thereby seized by the police and will be returned to PSV.

Dammit, the football match is at the same time as the F1 qualifications ... Multi-taking on a Saturday is undoable :(

_tunic_ 06.29.2019 09:51 AM

Yes! Yes! Yes!

2-0 in a much better game. We not only made it to the next round, but also qualified for the next Olympics in Tokyo for the first time!!

btw, that PSV story should make a great movie script similar to Fargo :-p

LeClerc got pole ahead of Hamilton

_tunic_ 06.29.2019 10:35 AM

oh wow! awesome. good for him! And it's good to see that he can be competitive against the Mercedesses and not only Vettel. But now I'm mad at you because I already know the winner. I was about to watch it right now. Thanks for the info though :)

Sky News reporting Arnie's apparently handed in another transfer request.

Can't be arsed with him anymore. The club should cut its losses now. Let him go and become someone else's headache.

Bertrand 07.02.2019 04:09 PM

And he's spent so much time injured (not on big periods of time), that it'd be a good idea to let him leave WH.
who to take over though?

USA-England: 2-1, an exciting game, a deserved win and 3 lovely goals.
Funny how the US field a 5 girl backline close to the end. Could be tricked with that when facing whoever gets out of tomorrow's game.

The club have been after Maxi Gomez for about as long as Pellegrini's been there. It'd be amazing if they can pull that off. Maybe the owners will cash in on an Arnie move and use that to improve their offer for him.

!@#$%! 07.02.2019 06:42 PM

caught usa-england on the road today and wow it was quite the thriller

goals reversed by var, penalties given by var, penalties stopped!, and cards galore (for legitimate reasons) including a red one (which was 2 yellows but should have been a straight red).

fun post-lunch that was. and yeah usa to the final.

_tunic_ 07.03.2019 12:37 PM

Finally! Beerensteyn will be starting instead of Van De Sanden. This was the big discussion before and after every match.

Let's hope she scores :)

choc e-Claire 07.03.2019 04:01 PM

0-0 after 90 minutes, so extra time. Both teams had chances that were really unlucky to not score, so I can't split it.

Have a crush on Lina Hurtig now tho :o

demonrail666 07.05.2019 05:04 AM

WH accept 22m for Arnie while Maxi Gomez looks to have signed for Valencia.

Leaves them with a strike-force of want-away Chicharito. And. That's. It.

Five week scramble to get two strikers.

God knows.

h8kurdt 07.05.2019 05:49 AM

How much were you offered 6at the beginning of the year?

demonrail666 07.05.2019 06:38 AM

I dunno. I know the club have accepted less than they wanted but to be honest I'm just glad to see the back of him. Even if we end up starting the season without a proper forward and have to use someone from midfield, I'd rather than that a troublemaker.

!@#$%! 07.05.2019 06:42 AM

Looks like Everton are making a bid for Diego Costa.

Don't think anyone saw that coming. Could be a great bit of business.

_tunic_ 07.07.2019 06:01 AM

who will win the Women's final this afternoon?
at which minute will the US score their first goal? In all their matches they scored within the first 12 minutes or so, only against Italy they scored in the 14th minute.

As much I would like the Dutch to win, I don't think they'll have a chance. So my prediction:
4 - 1 for the US, with the first goal scored in the 9th minute. And the Dutch goal in like the 80th minute.

!@#$%! 07.07.2019 06:26 AM

fingers crossed for the usa team. i don’t know if i’ll be able to catch them on tv but i will try. all about timing. game vs. england was awesome.

also, for those who can watch, there is a copa américa this season and i totally missed it (been moving, don’t have the channel, etc.)

today’s final is brazil v perú at the maracanã

yesterday argentina beat chile 2-1 for 3rd place and... messi was thrown out?

semis were perú 3 - chile 0 and brazil 2 -argentina 0

a lot of shit apparently has been going on but i have no idea nor time to find out

ALSO

the concacaf copa de oro has been happening and mexico usa play the final today. other than that i know fuck-all about it.

don’t plan to watch that one.

lol.

choc e-Claire 07.07.2019 10:06 AM

This should be a pretty high-scoring final, I've got the Dutch ranked as the best offense in the world. The issue is they can't really defend, and the US can (Plus the second best offense). I wanna say 3-2 in extra time to the Americans, but that seems a little unlikely.

Apparently Messi's opponent ran into him for no real reason, the two started pushing each other around, and the ref got a bit trigger-happy.

!@#$%! 07.07.2019 10:07 AM

lol i like gary medel but he’s no saint

!@#$%! 07.07.2019 11:58 AM

well well well

looks like i tuned in at the right time—right before the penalty

that lavelle goal was amazing

afterwards it looked like all the us forwards got greedy and wasted tons of chances by trying to score on their own

!@#$%! 07.07.2019 05:50 PM

caught the last bit of brazil with 10 men beating peru 3-1 (jesus was kicked out at ‘70 or so). no neymar, but richarlison came in late to knock everyone’s socks off. saw some headlines suggesting brazil better without neymar (i believe it).

Luff me a bit of Richarlison. That is until the day he leaves Everton in about 2 seasons time

before him peru had brazil sort of against the ropes trying to tie for 2. not on any kind of individual brilliance, but by sheer team effort.

after he came in... fuggeddaboutit. peru went on the defense.

note to the world: tite (i hope you get to pronounce that right lmao) really means business
