After watching BERNIE, I said to my friend, "That kinda sorta made me want to visit Texas."

He said, "That made me never want to visit Texas."

But I liked the quaint suburbia depicted. And aren't there mountains and shit? Plus big cities like Dallas and Houston, with hipster pockets like Austin and Pheonix? Could it be that Texas is the greatest, most American state of all?

Rob Instigator 03.04.2013 09:00 AM

Bernie was a good watch.

West texas has moutnains like a motherfucker. West texas is like the old west.

eastern texas is like the deep south.

The hill country in the middle (where austin is at) is it's own thing too.

evollove 03.04.2013 09:54 AM

So I was right. A trip to Texas is now on my radar. Thanks for the great pics.

Rob Instigator 03.04.2013 09:58 AM

Just remember, that Texas is about 900+ miles across, and about 1000 miles from top to bottom. You gots to get green on them road-trips!

Epic mountains, 1000 miles from top to bottom.. sounds familiar, like a friendlier less backwoods version ;)

West Texas cowboys they'z all around.. with liquor and money they'z loaded down.. so soon after payday it seemed a shame.. you know my uncle he starts a friendly game, hey high low jack and the winner takes the hand.."

Rob Instigator 03.04.2013 02:04 PM

hahah! I have been to California many times, north and south, and in between, and I found the exact same ratio of backwoods bumpkins as in Texas! And believe me, the folks are far friendlier in texas.

EVOLghost 03.04.2013 02:13 PM

pissing contest aside...

Those are some nice pictures. Road trips are amazing(when I'm driving I'm in my happy place :P ). Looks like I need to plan one to the west. I was trying for one in the summer....but I wasn't able to problems with my license(NOT DUI OR DRUG RELATED!) and that'll be fixed son enough....but I really want to drive in the desert.

Rob Instigator 03.04.2013 02:19 PM

It is great. make sure your car is tuned up though!

Rob Instigator 03.04.2013 02:20 PM

Cali rules though. Insane changes of scenery.

Ain't that the truth? From my house here in LA in a single day, you can catch a gorgeous morning at the rugged cliff beaches of Palos Verde, then zig zag through urban sprawl towards to beautiful meadows in the hillsides at the foot of the San Gabriels. Keep heading north-east from there and pause for lunch in mesmerizing Spruce and Pine forests straight from the nightmares of the Brothers Grimm. Then climb upwards and even at this time of the year you can find yourself in a white-out blizzard in our local Bear mountains, and drive own into the desert for an epic purple sunset across the colors of sand and rock. Literally, we have everything. I have thought of leaving, but LA is like a vortex. The furthest I could get would be somewhere else in California..

!@#$%! 03.04.2013 03:33 PM

on the subject of this thread's OP, i read this weekend about some 5 year old girl who was beaten to death and raped "everywhere" by her own father, who is scott-free in saudi arabia after paying $50K "blood money."

this is a bit of old news since things were first reported back in october and then again in february but i thought i'd mention.

i rarely get weepy with the news, as a matter of fact i'm often "oh shit, that's terrible, move on", but this got to me. fucking shit.

http://rt.com/news/saudi-preacher-fine-rape-333/

anyway, sorry if it's too much atrocity.

Yeah, topographically, California's hard to beat.

i went to listen to the rand paul filibuster for shits and giggles but he's making tons of sense

^ What wisdom did he share? I missed it. Ended up watching someone discuss the problems he has with drone strikes against Americans on foreign soil. It actually ended up making me feel slightly better about such actions.

So, yesterday I booked a flight to the States for february.
When I told my mum she asked me if I was sure if whether my passport would be valid long enough. Since I don't carry my passport when traveling through Germany, I could not check yet (still at my mum's).
Just to shake off one thing that makes me nervous about this: my passport only has to be valid for the actual duration of my stay, right? does anyone know?

They would require your passport to be valid for at least six months in order to let you in. If it would expire before that, they are likely to deny you entry (in which case, you wouldn't be allowed to board the plane). That's how I understand it works for Mexicans, at least.

EDIT:
Reading around, there are exceptions to that rule and they would only require your passport to be valid for your intended period of stay, Nici. That in case you'd had your password issued whether in Germany, or Australia. Many other countries are part of this exception, too. :)

so I am good to go if i am leaving the states on 17th february and my passport is valid til 1st of march?

(sorry, it's 6:40 am and I've been awake all night watching covert affairs and eating sausages, my head is very slow and i get easily confused rn)

either way: thank you for reading up on it

edit: it confuses me cause for me what you wrote sounds like my passport would only have to be valid for the duration of my stay, but in the link you posted mexico (as well as germany) is on the list and you wrote that they'd need an additional 6 months?

pony 12.26.2013 04:20 AM

i guess i'll just apply for ESTA next week and then i'll see

No, you're good to go. It's actually a list of exceptions to the six months rule. No need to worry any further. My post was a bit confusing. Sorry about that. I'll try to articulate better next time. May you enjoy your trip to the land of the free. :)

pony 12.27.2013 12:02 AM

thank you very much, hipster_bebop_junkie!
you are my hero!
now i can't wait to get back to hamburg and apply for ESTA!

pony 12.29.2013 02:45 PM

We were in Gruene, Tx this morning and saw an old placard at a dance hall. Year was 1952 and the hall was featuring Hank Williams, Red Foley, and Ray Price. In small letters at the bottom of the placard was: " New and upcoming singer: Patsy Cline." The best part was: Special Seating $1.25, Reserved Seats 75 cents, General Admission 50 cents. Those were the days. Ha

March 5th is Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. I'm going to be frank.....I'm pretty fucking excited for this. I guess tickets are selling out and only 2nd balcony are left(in a placewith GA?). But yeah...got me Ground Floor GA...This is going to be weird....you know...going all out in public n shit with my guilty pleasure....I do hope there is a nice view from the bar though(I've never been to this venue)....

oh yeah...best news is that I'm not going alone and I didn't have to convince anyone to go with me.

EDIT: Nakata's works are finally being brought to the USA! Hopefully thing will encourage Perfume to perfume in the States really soon.

EVOLghost 01.28.2014 01:29 PM
