Sure. Happy to see some activity going on in this thread. By the way, Bytor Peltor, you might be interested in this, which I think I didn't post a link to before: It is a great professionally filmed PAL DVD of Low at Primavera Sound Festival on March 27, 2011; of course the Megaupload links are useless now but it still can be downloaded from Rapidshare: http://kigonjiro.com/2012/01/12/low-...ra-sound-2011/ ![]() Low will be performing tomorrow at First Avenue in Minneapolis, as part of the line-up celebrating 89.3 FM-The Current's 7th Anniversary. It's not clear yet if they will stream or archive a recording of the show, but I do hope they will. |
There is another new recording of a Low show over at archive.org, also recorded by Emmanuel:
Low at La Gaîté Lyrique, Paris, France, on December 2, 2011: http://www.archive.org/details/low2011-12-02 |
The Playlist, weekly TV show from Minnesota, on public channel WDSE WRPT, will be broadcasting a Low special next Thursday, February 2nd at 9:00 and 11:00 PM.
Trailer on youtube: http://youtu.be/auG8iyhLORk The first installment of a music project featuring the Duluth-based, indie-rock band Low. Recorded during a live performance for Life House in October, this episode highlights songwriters and performers Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker. |
Hey hipster bebop, respond to my pm why dontcha? :)
I like C'mon and The Great Destroyer and Drums and Guns, but am otherwise ignorant of the band. Those are great albums though. Why didn't C'mon get more press in '11? |
^^ you need to hear their 90s albums. Brilliant, although I like pretty much all of their albums.

Pictures of Low at The Current's 7th birthday party:
http://blog.thecurrent.org/slideshow...birthday-party Streaming audio of a very short interview by John Munson with Alan Sparhawk for the Current's "John Interviews" program in regards to songs that move him: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/col...views_12.shtml Hopefully The Current will have some material of Low's show at their anniversary party, although there is nothing there at the moment that would suggest that. E. Noisefield, I hadn't realized I had a private message from you. Will reply to it soon, I lack the time for that now but I concur with GravitySlips' post above in the sense that there are plenty of treasures for you to discover in their past albums. However, I'd recommend you to not focus solely on the material released in the 90s. "Things We Lost In The Fire" was released in 2001, and is considered by many as their best work. If you enjoyed the last few records, I don't see how it'd be possible that you'd dislike what came before. |

Heading up to La Casa Del Sparhawk to record two new tunes for the Actual Wolf Band EP. "Turning 25" and "Cry, Cry, Cry"... Also, excited to start rehearsing that group next week in Minneapolis. YEAH!!!! Just a few reminders... I'll be playing on The Playlist Thursday February 9th @ 9pm. Then I'll be playing the Thirsty Pagan Solo on Friday February !0th. I'll be posting it in events this week. Can't wait to play with The Cavalier Crooks on Saturday at The Beat Coffeehouse in Uptown. It's an All Ages Show and it starts at 7:00pm. Proceeds from the show will help The Crooks to help fund their new recording. Please come out and support live local music. The Cavalier Crooks, the band mentioned by him in that post, has an EP available on bandcamp: http://thecavaliercrooks.bandcamp.com/ Both The Cavalier Crooks and Actual Wolf are booked to open for Retribution Gospel Choir at Turf Club in St. Paul, MN, on February 18th (I would hope that were the first of many shows with the three acts on the bill, that'd be awesome): http://www.songkick.com/concerts/115...medium=partner Actual Wolf covering Neil Diamond's "Cherry, Cherry": http://soundcloud.com/clubhousestudi...-cherry-cherry By the way, I would be crazy if I'd mind that you copy from here and then paste some of my posts over there. It actually makes me very happy that the information gets to reach more people that might find it relevant. And in any case, I'm not the source anyway. :) |

Listening to the Christmas EP now. It's minus 15 Celcius and covered in snow here. But even in summer times, this is one of my favourite Low albums. Those Cavalier Crooks are quite good, sounds even more like Cream than RGC does. |
_tunic_, I do hope it's true that Low will be on Jools Holland when they go back to the UK in the spring. I've seen some dull acts lately, that should change. Lana Del Rey has performed there, but not Low.
Yeah, "Christmas" is a great record no matter the context. Hope you are enjoying the winter. I've been watching European football today and sort of feel sorry that those guys have to play under those conditions. Brrrr.... It's kind of hot here in Mexico, but maybe I'll give "Christmas" a spin today as well. I also found The Cavalier Crooks very enjoyable. Also, I think I read somewhere that Eric Pollard was recording something with another band from Duluth called Manheat, but I just can't find a link to prove it. Anyway, a video of The Murder Of Crows' encore at The Amazing Grace last night, recorded with an iPhone is now up on youtube: http://youtu.be/x_iKrD57Xp8 |
Chris Lawrence taped Low's show in Vancouver on September 15th, 2011. His recording is here:

The Playlist's special episode on Low is now available for streaming at:
http://www.wdse.org/shows/playlist/w...n-3-episode-18 Low benefit concert for Life House on The PlayList. The band includes lead vocalist, songwriter and guitar front-man, Alan Sparhawk; Mimi Parker lends her talents on drums and vocals; and Steve Garrington adds rhythmic bass guitar and keyboard. Low’s music is often referred to as “slowcore,” a subgroup of the more widely known rock music genre. While the group isn’t a fan of that label, they were one of the first bands to adopt and popularize this music style. Discover the band’s roots, minimalistic approach to music and the personal stories of these talented musicians in this special episode of The PlayList. This past fall, Low and Charlie Parr joined forces to raise funds, and awareness for homeless youth of the Duluth area. These two powerful forces offered a night of music in support of Life House, a local program that assists youth in escaping poverty, homelessness, and abuse. All proceeds from the concert directly benefited the lives of at risk/homeless youth through Life House’s “Adopt-A-Kid” Program. Last night's episode was about Eric Pollard's Actual Wolf, should be up in about a week, I suppose. |
Low's John Peel Session, recorded in May of 1999, is available for streaming at BBC 6 Music's website (only for residents of the UK, apparently):
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00p2fl0 Please, if someone can rip the .mp3s and share them through Wetransfer or whatever, I would appreciate it greatly. The first song, "Liar" (not "Lair" as listed on the website), was formerly thought to be lost, according to Alan Sparhawk. EDIT: Actually, I just went to take a look to trustlow.com and I'm now certain it wasn't "Liar" the one song that got lost from this session. According to Alan, they played also a version of "Last Breath" on that session, but it got erased by accident. In any case, "Liar" remains such a treat as it is still a rarity, I don't think there's evidence of Low doing many more performances of this song. |

here it is... http://www.sendspace.com/file/c2j9h2 btw I didn't read this post before I tagged the tracks so you will have to change the name of the first to Liar (I tagged it as Lair) |
Thanks a lot Stu!
I listened to it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01bqthg The next track played after Liars is a fine cover of Death Valley '69 (not by Low, but some other band). |
Thank you so much, Stuart; you are the absolute best!

I didn't see that, I'll have to check it out! |
I'll upload Low 2000-11-08 John Peel Session to archive.org (I've got .flac files). I've wanted to hear these sessions for years. Thank you so much, Stu!
|
I'm now torrenting this:
LOW - John Peel Session, Maida Vale Studio 4, London, UK, November 8th, 2000 (FLAC) [lowtorrent] Also uploading it to archive.org, will post the link to that as soon as it is ready. |
Okay. I think the upload to archive.org was successful. Anyone who downloads from there, please let me know how it goes. First time I've ever done this, and would do my best to fix things if something got flawed:
http://www.archive.org/details/Low20...1-08.fm.flac16 |
When you can play the streaming audio, all went well. And I'm hearing it now ;)
You could change the keywords if you want, by adding semicolons ( ; ) in between them. As long as there's no spaces in the filenames, uploading to LMA works quite fluently. But with spaces in the filenames, they get removed, and then the md5 checksum fails because the files have been renamed ... Which is what just happened to me (I'm uploading a couple of Vic Chesnutts). So you did better than me :-) |
Quote:
Thanks, man. I didn't realize I messed it up with the keywords, but I'm gonna try to fix it. I'm uploading rappard's recording of Evangelista now (which I seeded to dime a few weeks ago) and then I plan to upload some installments of the Avantgarde Project that I have in my collection, and which aren't on archive at the moment. :) |
Not really my cup of tea this, I hate rap. But it's a nice mix of songs.

The Black Keys - "Psychotic Girl" feat. Intuition 04:22 11. Grizzly Bear - "Two Weeks" feat. Intuition 04:48 about Remember when you used to make actual tapes for your friends, or a girl you liked? You'd spend hours trying to come up with the right songs in the right order, trying to appease your friend's preferences but show your tastes as well. This side project uses that exact idea, but takes it one step farther. I took a collection of 11 songs that I love (no rap music), songs that I think fans of any type of music would love, and I added a verse to each. I didn't chop the songs up and flip the samples for brownie points. I didn't try to make something new out of these songs. I just tried to leave the original songs alone as much as I could, and added one verse over each song to make it seem as if I was invited into the studio with the band to collaborate. All of these collaborations are, of course, unauthorized, but I tried to make each verse as relevant to the songs' original lyrics as I possibly could. The genres range from classic soul to modern indie rock, with a little bit of everything sprinkled in between. Some of the songs might be very familiar to you, and others may not, but I feel that I've added a nice little compliment to each of them (you might think I ruined them though). Enjoy. released 23 March 2010 >> |
Oh, I will listen. Thanks.
By the way, _tunic_, I forgot to mention this before (sorry): I've been told by Jeroen van der Poel that the project he and Konkurrent intended to do back when Low visited The Netherlands in November of last year, actually didn't materialize. A shame, truly. The bright side of his message, though, is that he also said his film, "A Song Of Praise", is coming out in a special dedicated website in two months. |

Swans Recruit Karen O, Low, Akron/Family for Album By Evan Minsker on March 13, 2012 at 01:05 p.m. ![]() Photo by Will Deitz Back in July, we reported that post-punk/noise legends Swans were working on a lengthy new album. At the time, they were playing two-and-a-half hour-long live shows ("and the album may be a comparable length," we said) with new songs that were as long as 30 minutes. Now, according to SPIN's interview with Swans frontman Michael Gira, that material is going to be on a new LP titled The Seer, due out this summer via Gira's Young God Records. The album will indeed feature around two hours of music on a double CD and triple vinyl. Gira also confirmed that some of the tracks would clock in at 30 minutes. Gira told Spin, "To me it’s the complete synthesis of everything I’ve done and Swans has done." He also teased guest spots on the album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs' Karen O, Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker of Low, and "Beach Boys-style harmonies" from Akron/Family. Gira is about to start a world tour performing solo in support of his recent compilation The Milk of M. Gira: Collected Solo Home Recordings 2001 - 2010. Because Sub Pop is out of the loop. Haha. Yeah, I just received their e-mail and thought, "All of this is old news". In any case, Retribution Gospel Choir's "The Revolution EP" is gonna be officially released next week. I'll be buying it. I'm aware a lot of fans do hate it, though.
