iain is right but you can also get to it from oraienburgerstrasse.

I didn't realise there was so much going on there...I only found out it was a squat after I had been to Berlin. The only squat type places I went to when I was there were KuLe (which is round the corner from the one in that picture) and West Germany and I think they were more just performance spaces, I'm not sure if people were actually living there.

they do and they dont. there are some real hardcore places where people do live but are very hostile to outsiders. there are a lot of old buses and caravans outside most squats that people live in. one guy actually built a house in a tree, which sounds really lame but he has made it huge with several rooms, electricity and heating. the council tried to evict him but under some weird loophole in the law he is allowed to stay.

i believe i have heard some part of the building now called Tacheles was used by the Nazis during the war as some headquarter and that some prisoners were even executed there...

i think Tacheles is actually subsidized by the City or the Ministry of Culture these days... anyway, it's true that it seems to have become a sort of touristic place...

Stop by someday, and see for yourself. It's Bodø, Norway, by the way.

jon boy 12.29.2006 04:11 PM

i have been to omaha. it looked quite small but the river coming into town i remember going over a bridge and it was pretty cool. got a pic somewhere.

Пятхъдесят Шест 12.29.2006 04:17 PM

Small compared to Berlin, yes.

Were you taking Interstate 80 from Iowa?

A view such as this one?

jon boy 12.29.2006 04:18 PM

jon boy 12.29.2006 04:28 PM

is this just outside omaha? i amy be totaly wrong

Пятхъдесят Шест 12.29.2006 04:31 PM

It sure could be, its dirty enough to be the Missouri River, though it looks very wide, the Missouri is pretty narrow in these parts. Maybe that is the Mississippi?

jon boy 12.29.2006 04:32 PM

perhaps, but i have deffinatly been to omaha. i have been to quite a few places that i recognise people talking about on the board.
