The tracks here are far less repetitive than previous LP's, leaving the repetition to the meditation EP's - which are bollocks by the way - which is a surprising change of pace.

So, it's a teary eyed wank out of 10 from me. Amazing, however, I don't know if I'd like to listen to it ever again. Wey, I'll probably get pissed the mora' n' wack the cunt on.

The vocals ruin what could otherwise be mere listenable music. That is if you can get over the fact that every death metal vocalist is a grown adult channeling pent-up teenage angst. Grow up! The fekin lot o' ye!

To each their own, but Oranssi Pazuzu have never had anything to do with death metal. Just saying. With their last 3 albums, especially their latest masterpiece, they have steered away from black metal into unknown territories.

The Soup Nazi 05.15.2020 01:02 PM

This appears to be brilliant:

They've pretty much always been space Rock filed under the metal section for some reason. Aluk Todolo as well. Easily one of the best bands on Earth right now. I did like the treatment of the vocals better on their last album, where they were in the mix rather than on top of it, but that's a pretty minor issue in the overall picture.

This week

Charli XCX
Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith
Girls Rituals
Peaking Lights

all dropped new records.

Right?

Kim Gordon picked a track of hers for the bbc 6 broadcast mix and it was fucking diabolical. A cliche (*uffff) but I just, don't, get it. Fucks sake. Her and Billie Eilish look like meth sluts.

d.sound 05.21.2020 09:09 AM

Charli XCX cliche? I wonder what song bc she is future next level. Way more experimental than any avant shit. It's like Autechre for pop radio.

Charli is beautiful. That's the first "meth s***" pic I've seen.

Its a cliché to say I don't get it. The song sounded just like any other thing one might be unfortunate enough to hear on radio one. For example auto tuned vocals with lyrics about breaking up with your partner. Well look at that, a cliché after all. No gripes if you like the slag. Just not fer me. To derive an Autechre comparison is however, fucking ridiculous.

Diesel 05.21.2020 09:37 AM

This is the song...
https://youtu.be/fI5Myc9Nt-Y

Lyrics like; I just loosen these staples like a fuckin' office

Granted these are guests but this is some next level retardation.

I dare anyone to listen to the whole track. Are people for real. Have I gone insane?! what the fuck man

Erm. The vocals are by sound and definition, death metal, no? The music is not, but when you have got some deplorable nutter so high in the mix the thing becomes counter-intuitive.

Savage Clone 05.21.2020 11:10 AM

Vocal is way more black metal than death metal. and on the previous album they were mixed a little bit more distantly and I thought they sounded pretty good.

choc e-Claire 05.21.2020 04:56 PM

The Charli XCX album was good!

Not her best song. Most of her lyrics are about depression, addiction, and escapism. Very personal. Lyrics about partying are really about self hatred.

Here's an example of some weirdness, sonic wise

This is one of my faves:

Diesel 05.26.2020 12:16 PM

It sounds like auto tuned vocals and studio trickery. I had to turn both off after a few seconds, right before the inevitable avalanche of deep depression - brought on the way only pop music can - kicked in.

A vocal lower in the mix is always more pleasing. When treat as an intrument, even better. For example mbv. I find a foreign language vocal can be rewarding too as you have no choice but to treat the voice as another melody in the mix. Unless of course the vocalist is channeling Satan himself.

Savage Clone 05.26.2020 12:33 PM

Agreed

Was it pink diamond? Sounds like a death grips joint with a pop hook?
I dig it.

She’s cool, Kim’s cool, whatever

Fucking hell I thought they had damn near dropped off the face of the earth. Their last album which was all of six(?) years ago had one of my favourite openers if heard in a long time. Wonder what's taken them so long to do more stuff?

greenlight 06.29.2020 02:57 AM

Pete Nolan and his family should release album too, hahaha....I mean from what I seen lately on his Insta..

Well look who resurrected. ;):)

I have a list of about 27 kawazillion "new/most anticipated albums" that I gotta post here, but with all the SY activity on Dime I'll most likely get around to doing that in 2021.

h8kurdt 06.30.2020 12:22 PM

New Pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs pigs album is making me cook. Highly recommended.

Anyone heard the new deerhoof album?

I already like it, as one tune is called "Ry Cooder". :)

Shepherd In A Sheepskin Vest is a very good album, but it's my least favorite of all the records he's released under his own name. The reason may not be entirely musical, though - the repeated references to a life with a wife and kid are something I can admire but not relate to.
