Oh, most certainly.
95% of people doing prog rock are making some of the worst music ever, but when it's done right it can be really great.
suppose the same is true for post-rock, but I would put the "lame" percentage at about 97%. Post-rock's "dryness" is as irritating to me as a lack of songwriting behind virtuosic soloing. Post-Rock can easily rival prog for lack of emotion.

Glice 12.04.2006 05:12 PM

I like how German prog is good and gets its own name so people don't confuse it with bad prog.

chout, what amps do you have? you have like 20 pedals, better not have a shitty amp or i'll have to come down there.....

ZEROpumpkins 12.06.2006 05:11 AM

Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi
Ebow
Digitech RP-80
and some Beringher peice of shit pedal. Well it's not that bad. But I tend to use my muff.

Fender Deville 2x12...I like it and got a great deal on it.

king_buzzo 12.06.2006 02:51 PM

for a minute i thought it was a fender blues deluxe.

i tried the b deluxe in a store and it sounded cool as fuck. next (big) amp buy

CHOUT 12.06.2006 03:04 PM

it's loud

Danny Himself 12.06.2006 03:06 PM

I used to want an Orange Amp, as I tried one out and they have amazing tone. There's great deals on Ashton (peavey subsidiary) Amps in my local store though, so I don't know. Alls I know is my HiWatt 25 sucks big moose.

I've gotten away from using a ton of effects because to my ears you can definitly hear how they can and will suck the hell outta the true tone of any nice guitar especially in conjunction with a nice amp. unless you really make a sincere attempt to make sure every effect you use is true-by-pass a decision is made on whether you want to sacrifice tone for a nice effect...

not sure why i needed to say that, but anyways i use:

Guitar chain (guitar -> amp):
mxr phase 90 (w/ infamous capacitor mod)
ProCo Rat
EH Bigmuff (w/ a switchable capacitor mod of my creation to alternate from the original sound to the new increase volume/bass)
EH Deluxe Memory Man
Digitech PDS-1002

occassionally Mxr/Dunlop Hendrix Octave Fuzz (though i find it too annoying to make it worthwhile in my chain)

amp is an early 70's silverfaced Fender Twin Reverb Hotrodded where the Vibrato preamp tubes are bypassed to give more gain boost... it probably pushes 100W tube power and rivals alot of other larger powered amps, the only bad thing is that its way heavy and abit akward.

I often create/use other sounds in conjunction to playing guitar and i will use these effects:

Korg Kaoss Pad Version I (mostly for Ring Mod mode)
Boss Dr. Sample Version I (w/ stored samples and pitch, ring mod, reverse, delay effects)
mxr blue box (capacitor modded w/ switch to alternate from original sound to new, this used to be in my effects chain until i realized this mod totally altered w/ the sustain ability of my guitar tone in a negative way, it sucked all the sustain, probably there is something else inherently wrong w/ my copy).

My blue box sucked for sustain too.

it's not your copy, bluebox shears some freq and affects the sustain, especially if you made the cap.mod.

king_buzzo 12.06.2006 03:54 PM

i hate this quote 'effects are cheating' its not true. having too much effects ruins your tone though

CHOUT 12.06.2006 05:12 PM

Of course effects can ruin your original guitar to amp tone, I rarely use that anyway.

scott v 12.08.2006 09:21 AM

so i may have found a replacement for my blue box though its abit different and it may take some more convincing of myself to phase out the nice randomized aspect of the blue box, anyways...

at a fair price i got a used Boss OC-2 the made in Japan model (not the OC-3 Super Octave), its the older no longer made unit though it doesn't have the added fuzz it can provide a combination of 1 octave below and then 2 octaves below while also mixing the direct sound, where the bluebox cannot do this. its definitly not as random and unpredictable which i loved about the blue box, though it doesn't suck the life out of my guitar as much, with some fuzz/distortion from my Rat and Bigmuff (i put the Rat then Octave then Bigmuff in my chain) and at certain settings i can come close to the blue box tone, the effect works best with one-note runs, chords it has trouble tracking (like all octave pedals) and this sort of thing sounds weird and whoolley with fuzz, which is where most technical "guitarists" run to the hills because the sound is not tracking right. anyways not that it matters but i realized the bass player, Brian of Lightning Bolt uses one of these which is obvious from listening to them.

now the next issue... not satisfied with my Dunlop Hendrix Octave Fuzz, which btw has never been the same after a repair was made years ago because i fried a capacitor. Don't really want another one because of how much they are and its limited use.

been reading alot of great things (here included) about the Danelectro French Toast Octave distortion, and for the price... can't beat it. heard the octave mode can provide ring modulator-like tones with certain playing nuances which is attracting me to this. even Nels Cline had good things to say about it, generally i stay away from danelectro because i've always thought the quality was shoddy and their pedals look stupid and are made of plastic...

Inhuman 12.08.2006 09:38 AM

I'll take pictures of my jamspace. I'm the audio tech / sampler dude, and everyone else has their own little parts. We do stuff that sounds like a mix of A Silver Mt.Zion and Gang Gang Dance, and we barely use effects, but we have a few.

Crybaby Wah
2 Multieffects
70-preset Mic effects
Boss Gigadelay

heavium 12.08.2006 10:44 AM

i'm thinking about getting an ehx frequency analyzer next year, moogerfoogers are way too pricey for me when it comes to ring mod fx, anyone own one of these ? i checked out the ehx demo vid with the skinny guy but it's too short to really know what it's all about and would love to hear some more of it.

i'm going to run my bass through the bm, ceb and blue box tomorrow, real curious about that. *insert evil grin*

The Usher 12.08.2006 10:48 AM

Hey,
I've been playing guitar for about 6 month now and have a Boss DS-2 pedal. I was thinking about buying something new as an Xmas prezzie to myself, do you think a Dunlop Cry Baby is a good move?

heavium 12.08.2006 11:02 AM

meh, depends on what kind of music you make, i find that wah wahs get boring, for handy/useable fx below 100 bucks (reg cry baby price) i'd get some kind of phaser/flanger instead, delays are very interesting but good ones usually don't come any cheaper than 100 bucks. my opinion anyway.

but if you really want to spend your money well; sell the ds2 and get a rat2 or big muff. ;-)

The Usher 12.08.2006 11:06 AM

Cool, thanks for the advice.

The Usher 12.08.2006 11:26 AM

Oh, I forgot to mention, what was the reason you suggested selling the DS-2?

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 11:49 AM

she said to sell the ds2 and then get a proco rat or a big muff. if you want wah please get a vox wag or a budda wah. crybabyes suck

The Usher 12.08.2006 01:09 PM

Yeah, but my point is,why sell the DS2? do you consider it not to be any good, or is it similar to big muff?

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 01:18 PM

yeah the ds2 is okay

nature scene 12.08.2006 01:20 PM

i like the crybaby tone. but it's all up to personal interests. Ebay man.... ebay.

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 01:22 PM

they are okay, but voxes are better.

i have a gcb95 wah and its okay. doesnt have much sweep though.

The Usher 12.08.2006 01:24 PM

I've been looking at ebay but never seem to see things going much cheaper than in the stores. I don't see the point of saving say £10, when you don't get a gaurantee etc... anyways, have been looking at the Big Muff and it looks pretty cool...

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 01:31 PM

yeah man, im doing this thingy on another guitar forum about the big muff and i made soundclips so if you want, ill post it.

The Usher 12.08.2006 01:34 PM

Cool, will you PM it to me?

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 01:37 PM

sure man, next friday okay? thats when i need to do the thing for anotehr forum

The Usher 12.08.2006 01:38 PM

Yeah great, I'lll look out for it...thought knowing me, I'll have probably gone and bought the thing by then!

king_buzzo 12.08.2006 01:40 PM

id sugest you go out and buy it its a great pedal.

what other gear do you have?
