That's what I thought you meant, too. Play something obvious that everybody should know, and you still get that blank stare--that's when I give up on having a shared bond based on music. |

Hey, I like some Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday now! nice post though |

The first Interpol album is FUCKING GREAT. Long Live IT!
|
Whoa.
In my extended social circle, pretty much everyone will respond well to VU, Stooges, etc. It's so common-knowledge/common ground that no one stares at anyone if it's played. |
Re Interpol - Turn on... : I like it, too. The 2nd album is pretty boring, but they got it right the first time.
|
I like sarah vaughn and billie and ella (clap hands here comes charlie) is a fave of mine) but I do not like peple who think JAZZ is only jazz vocalists and call coltrane or miles or monk or mingus "cat strangling music"
|
Ummm....Prince is not really embarrasing as far as I'm concerned. And Boston and Chicago did some nice tunes.
Fleetwood Mac are gash though. |

I agree with everything (especially the "jazz vocalists") there, except the Misfits statement. American Psycho (being the only album I have heard post-'85) is awesome, regardless of everyone hating the lack of Danzig. Now, to answer the thread, I say: VU- & Nico....... Just the epitomy of cool for me. SY- Confusion Is Sex + Evol + Sister + Goo........ D'uh Nirvana- In Utero........................................... " " Blood Brothers- Burn, Piano Island Burn GY!BE- Yanqui U.X.O. the JAMC- Psychocandy The Flying Luttenbachers- anything they have released |
i will personally disown you if you put anything by nirvana on your list.

Haven't heard Turn On..., but Antics is awesome! |

...says the girl who's favourite band is Hole. |
I would say volume 2 of the New York Noise comp is "cool". I always get imagery of those film-noir movies when I hear it.

Ella, but no Etta? haha. I'm not wild about either. Quote:
Part of the blame for removing the balls from jazz lies with Harry Connick, Jr. and that John Pizzarelli guy that sings the notes. His father, Bucky Pizzarelli, was pretty good. Most of the blame can be traced back to Miles and Herbie (both of whom are great artists otherwise) for unleashing jazz fusion elevator music onto the world. |
courtney killed kurt because his pecker was too small to satisfy her lust for monster cock in her brown eye.
