Due to the nature of the decade and an overall concurring consenus, you may include/substitute 10 singles in your list. Just as long as your total number isn't greater than 50.

demonrail666 12.20.2008 11:08 AM

OK. I'm having another go at it, but just with ten singles (not album tracks). See if it's easier.

See, here's my ongoing struggle with my final list: keeping it to one record per artist. That is difficult, and I feel that if I (and whoever else will end up doing the same) don't, then it will be a bloodbath of velvets/beatles/coltrane, much as Mr. 2600 graciouly demonstrated. Arrghh, well I'm off to peruse my singles yet some more.

alteredcourse 12.22.2008 10:40 PM

Maybe this is a needless question to ask, but when you guys make lists of these kinds that go back generationally, how much emotional/experience impact plays upon your judgment?

I actually didn't have that hard of a time keeping it to one album per artist. I ended up still having to cut about 20 records by other people that seemed essential when I started.

I've also decided to stick to albums, because I think bringing in singles just makes it too confusing. What will you do if somebody picks the Kinks first album and somebody else picks the "You Really Got Me" 45 and somebody else picks "Stop Your Sobbing"? Probably too late to change the rules again, but I'm glad I don't have to tabulate results!

I thought about your proposed situation and decided to gamble on people listing ''underground'' stuff that never made it LP. Seeing as there is plenty to choose from this decade that wouldn't be terribly hard. For instance one of my singles will be ''Liar,Liar'' by the Castaways, they never cut an album and I'm sketchy if they ever cut another record, but, to me that song is one of the best things to come out of the sixties.

fluxequalsrad 12.24.2008 02:41 AM

how is trout mask replica good? Dachau Blues is the worst thing i've ever heard in my life.

RdTv 12.24.2008 07:13 AM

12/27. And for all of you who posted a list (PM or in the thread) make sure you have yours edited before the 27.

RdTv 12.27.2008 08:52 AM

Bump.

If you posted a list and want to edit it, now would be a good time because I'm going to start tallying the lists tomorrow.

I know a lot of users, how do you say ''cannot be arsed'' to make a list, but I'm still surprised at the lack of participation in this decade.

Either you misunderstood me or you're saying that the years 1960-1969 sucked for music and produced nothing noteworthy, seminal or lasting. Just checking.

gualbert 12.27.2008 09:56 AM

That's me who suggests that it sucks, no doubt.
There are some good bands for sure, but it's generally too tame and polished for me.

So I guess the result will include lots of Beatles, Stones, Stooges and VU.

RdTv 12.29.2008 03:29 PM

Nope. so far the results include: sonny and cher, lulu, herb albert and tijuana brass, henry mancini, martin denny and lots of random merle haggard singles.

results coming in a few days.
