Exactly.
It just blew me away. I like the album a lot but that track is just way better than any of the others. So weird. |
It's on crack.
It's like, a jazz free-form that suddenly goes into some sort of death-metal thing. What the fuck. I love it. I wouldn't say it's better than Thundra or any of the epic tracks but it's definitely up there. There are a few other songs on the album that I really like (Delta-V and the Coathanger) but you're right when you say this one kicks the other's asses. |

definately under the top 5 of my favourite squarepusher tracks. I still wonder why my download source didnt include the best track on the album, hrhrhr bastards |
this is good enough. ive just become slightly bored with this ultra maximalist type music. this music sounds too,.... hmm, busy? yeah, there's almost too many sounds stacked on top of one another. squarepusher is an electronic jazz musician, he should stick to it. some of this stuff sounds like ruins, but not nearly as insane/crazy/good. some of it sounds a bit like naked city, but without the incredible drums/bass/sax/vocals/keys. i prolly wont end up listening to this for a while.

I see what you're saying, bat man, but the thing that has always attracted me to and unified squarepusher's work is his great sense of melody. I can't think of an electronic artist with better melodies; actually, I can't think of many musicians PERIOD with better melodies.
Also, I appreciate the fact that he keeps experimenting and doing something completely different and new on just about every release. |

boards of canada are everything when it comes to mind blowing beautiful melodies. |
Yeah, they have some good stuffff.
|
in my opinion 80% percent of their melodies are just pure genius. everyone creates at least some kind of strong feeling. 15% of their melodies are just really good and 5% are a littel bit cheesy. but for me thats over the top. hilarious what melody monsters they are

Big Loada was all i had before this... uh whats next to Big Loada sonically? i want more like that... idm-type crazy stuff
|
try selection sixteen...should not dissapoint you
|
am i missing something big time with squarepusher? all i hear is cheesy techno or cheesy seventies synth music being somehow remixed with "modern" techniques.
i never saw what is so genius about him, he gets compared to aphex twin and autechre, why? nowhere near as creative as either. |
He's just as creative and forward-thinking... and technically way more talented from every angle than Autechre or Aphex Twin (though I prefer those artists a lot more). Every Squarepusher album sounds completely different. He's an amazing bass player and his music mixes free jazz with electronic music pretty effortlessly. And like I said, he has some of the best melodies I've ever heard.
I think none of his albums are that consistent and some aren't even that great, period, but he probably has 30 or so really amazing songs. Check out the ep "do you know squarepusher?" That's the one I always reccomend. It's brilliant. It mixes cold electronics with beautiful melodies and some weird noise track or two. And there's a Joy Division cover but that doesn't do anything for me. |
he's sort of prolific and dynamic, he works with tons of styles and shit, but so does reel big fish and all those ska/funk/punk/metal/salsa bands; and forward thinking? most of what i¿ve heard is backwards thinking, to the 70's, only sort of with idm/drum n' bass sensibilities.
the best thing i've heard from him is probably that bootleg i have of him playing with evan parker. i'll check out that ep though; i've heard go plastic, feed me weird things and others, can't remember all and pretty muich non of them have done anything for me. |

Adam: I really can't stand Do You Know Squarepusher. The first track is amazing then it all goes to shit. |

Yeah, actually, I'm not a fan of go plastic. I like Feed Me Weird Things but it only has 2 or 3 really great tracks on it. |
I love Go Plastic. It's his best work next to Big Loada. I only need Selection
Sixteen and Music is a Rotted One Note till i've got all his stuff. |
Big Loada and Selection Sixteen are my favorites.
|
I understand Selection Sixteen has a similar vibe to Big Loada? When I get some money, it'll be one of the CD's I'll be after.
|
I looooove Go Plastic. Definitely my favorite by him.
|
Fo' sure. IMO every song on there is great, his most consistant work. Plus it has My Red Hot Car.
