My obsession is SONIC YOUTH

I have 21+ vinyl items
I have about 12 CD items
I have 5 7" vinyl items
I have 10 or so cassettes
and one 10" vinyl item

HairwayToSteven 04.24.2006 03:25 PM

1) Sonic Youth (23 items)
2) Swans (10 items)
3) Melvins / Nirvana (9 items each)

Not much. Definitely need more SY stuff!! :)

trance feeeedback 04.24.2006 03:32 PM

Sonic Youth and Boredoms, but I really don't want to count right now to see exactly. Spacemen 3, Stereolab, and Acid Mothers Temple come close too.

DoubleNickels 04.24.2006 03:52 PM

Sonic Youth
Then Smashing Pumpkins
Then I'm not sure.

Katy 04.25.2006 05:13 AM

Iggy/Stooges (The most. Lots and lots. Fuckloads. Seriously.)
Jane's Addiction (lots.. and lots.)
REM (quite a lot..)
Patti Smith (quite a lot again..)

Sonic Youth.... I have no idea. All their albums, plus some side-project stuff, EPs, soundtracks, bootlegs (etc.) Probably about 30? Maybe 40.. maybe less.. possibly more. I don't know. I'm shit with numbers. I never could guess how many beans there were in the jar at the fairground...

sonicl 04.25.2006 05:26 AM

My number one collection is SY, and related stuff. I know I have 72 cds, but I don't know how much vinyl. I'll make a guess and say probably about 30 singles and LPs. And then there's 15 books, half a dozen videos and DVDs, and probably 8 or 9 items of clothing.

My second obsession is either Nick Cave or Einstuerzende Neubauten.

holy-reverb!! 04.25.2006 02:40 PM

It was, yes :)

samuel 04.25.2006 07:53 PM

Sonic Youth!
I have twenty-some of their albums.
Then, I guess Placebo.

Sonic Youth

atari 2600 04.26.2006 03:21 PM

bootleg estimates

Sonic Youth (-300+)
The Beatles (-100+)
R.E.M. (-50+)
Talking Heads (-35+)
Pavement (-30+)
Velvet Underground (-25+)
Nirvana (-25+)
Led Zeppelin (-20+)
The Rolling Stones (-20+)
Laurie Anderson (-20+)
Brad Mehldau Trio (-20+)
John Coltrane (-15+)
Neil Young (-15+)
Mudhoney (-15+)
Bad Brains (-15+)

I've got 10+, 7+, 5+, or at least 2+ of just about anybody who is anybody; I have been burning at or close to a 50 spindle every week for over 2 years. I have been a member at Dime for that long & most of the cd-rs in my music collection are bootlegs.

HaydenAsche 04.26.2006 03:43 PM

Uhh...
I have probably around 20 or more Sonic Youth official releases and bootlegs. I also have about 20 solo and side-projects by members of the yoof.
I have probably about 15 Xiu Xiu releases, side projects, and collaborations.
I used to have a ton of Nirvana stuff but I sold it all except a few bootlegs.
I have all of the Radiohead official releases and a bunch of bootlegs.

Savage Clone 04.26.2006 03:49 PM

I do not count CDRs, unless that is the official release medium.

50+: Legendary Pink Dots, Psychic TV
20-30: Nurse With Wound, Current 93, Throbbing Gristle
10-20: Sonic Youth, Ya Ho Wha 13, Felt, Pentangle, Gong, Can, Loop, Skullflower, Bardo Pond, Acid Mothers Temple, Ventures, Death In June, more I can't think of right now.

atari 2600 04.26.2006 03:53 PM

i didn't count official releases in any of those estimates above considering that i have somewhere around 4,000 cds (cds & cd-rs total)

John Coltrane (filling in nearly all the gaps has been my record/cd-buying thing as of late), Sonic Youth, The Beatles, Brad Mehldau Trio, Neil Young, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Talking Heads, Beck, Led Zeppelin, Sal Mosca, Lennie Tristano, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed,
Laurie Anderson, Fleetwood Mac, Boredoms, Pavement, the Doors, OOIOO, Deerhoof, Bardo Pond, Patti Smith Group, Sebadoh, Gang of Four, The Police, John Lennon, Velvet Underground, Prince, U2, Nirvana, The Stooges, The Cars, Mudhoney, Radiohead, Peter Gabriel, Richard Hell & the Voidoids, My Bloody Valentine, Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker, Cat Power, Elf Power, Drive-By Truckers, Animal Collective, Black Dice, Public Enemy, Ween, Bad Brains, Wings, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Stephen Makmus & the Jicks, Film School, Pylon, Flat Duo Jets, Pixies, The Ordinaires, Robert Johnson (of course haha)...my collection has grown to such an amount that making any sort of trading list seems to be a chronically daunting task.

with few exceptions, i have every recording these artists ever released

HaydenAsche 04.26.2006 03:55 PM

Oh. I have all of the official releases by:
Radiohead
Cat Power
Xiu Xiu
Animal Collective
Swing Kids
Hot Snakes
Jehu
Pixies
I used to have Nirvana and other bands too but I sold them because I was broke.

space cake 04.26.2006 08:13 PM

sonic youth and unwound, all major releases plus a smattering of bootlegs for both, all on cd w/ the exception of ejstns on gloriously car-compatible cassette. where does anyone find vinyl ajskhflads!!

sleep33 04.26.2006 09:27 PM

I own 8 smashing pumpkin items..
I only have bought one album by Sonic Youth (CIS) but probably own 15 bootlegs on cdrs.

I dont own alot of stuff because Im really stingy about how i spend money and consider a waste to use it on any cd (since once you get an album you have to keep getting more and more) I have to really know I want it before i buy it...

Hey, good taste. I like LPD but sometimes Ka-Spel's lisp annoys me. I also like Bardo Pond and have one Death in June album (Rose Clouds). I also own a bit of NWW and Current 93 and Stapleton/Tibet.

I really like the albums Soft Black Stars and Sadness of Things.

Daycare Nation 04.26.2006 09:46 PM

HaydenAsche--Cat Power. Groovy.

My cat is named after Chan, and also after Chan's (dead) cat, Blackie Brown Blanco Jerry Seinfeld.

However, instead of the alliteration being on the "attributes" words, my cat's alliteration is on the "celebrity" words, thusly: Chan Sinead Cher Fluffy Gray.

HaydenAsche 04.26.2006 09:47 PM

Nice. I dig Cat Power a lot.
