![]() *******HORIZONTAL ACTION (AluminumKnotEye - ‘Trunk Lunker’ LP, Dead Beat) AluminumKnotEye have been around, in one form or another, for about ten years. They’ve always been odd, fucked-up, strange, nearly unclassifiable. They don’t really care about making friends. They can clear the room. They come from small backwoods WI burgs with names like “Chilton” and “Manitowoc.” They sound like a queer mix between Chrome, the Residents, the Electric Eels, Devo, Big Black, the Pagans and a myriad of other bygone weirdo/punk groups. They are loud, abrasive, ugly. They are fucking great. They are occasionally a mechanical mess. They are sometimes unpredictable. They perform and have recorded songs with titles like “Final Fling of the Amputee” and “Cannibal Chew Cud.” They sound like they mean it. They also perform and have recorded one of my current favorite songs: “Scales in the Tub,” which, somehow, reminds me of a sci-fi themed CCR tune reworked by renegade robots. And they just released a CD that contains the aforementioned material and it’s very good and you should buy it. (Eric Lastname) *******TERMINAL BOREDEOM (AluminumKnotEye - ‘Trunk Lunker’ LP, Dead Beat) After a low-key decade-long run, Wisconsin’s AluminumKnotEye finally unleash an alb proper. These guys were making strange noise before strange noise was the current rave, before the nouveau indie bohemes copped the “art” schtick, before the last crop of garage punks dropped their Rip Off’s covers and headed for discordant, angular horseshit that’s as empty and worthless as it is fake. |

I need to buy some new LPs but I'm fucked if I know what to spend my hard-earned cash on. Spiritualized? Liars? I also have a hankering for some Echo & Bunnymen reissues.
Recommendations and advice, please... . |
Buy Merzbow's Kibbutz.

Buy the new Spiritualized, the new Liars, and some Echo and the Bunnymen. Can't go wrong with the first two. I don't know which Echo you've heard/already have, but if you tell me Ill be happy to tell you where to go from there. |

been considering getting that, it's kinda pricey for my taste but a siiiick looking picture disc and pretty good album ![]() |
Still don't know what to buy. Feeling only lukewarm about everything I'm sseing in the store these days.

I've heard good things about the Echo debut and about Ocean or whatever it's called. I listened to samples of the new Spiritualized and they didn't do much for me. I haven't sampled Liars yet. |
I feel like I should revisit Echo & the Bunnymen. I shared a bedroom with my brother growing up and while I listened to Black Flag and MDC, he listened to EATB and New Order. I was pretty dismissive of his music at the time and although I clearly had the better taste in music I was probably unfairly harsh about some of the bands he liked.

I've been thinking maybe a copy of BJM's My Bloody Underground and Boris's Heavy Rocks.
|
Maybe a record by Mount Carmel. You may like them.
