Another great band overlooked upon a bunch of not so favorable (and mostly unwarranted) Joy Division comparisons. Influences are certainly there, most notably in Eric Cope's vocal delivery, but Glorious Din were in no way just derivative of JD. They brought so much of their own to the table. GD songs for instance tended to have much more jangly guitar-work, sometimes even giving the sound a touch of Blues and Country. There's certainly more of a "Western"-feeling to them. Yet, at the same time, they also had quite a few North-African and Eastern influences here and there. It's a great and quite unique blend. An overlooked Post-Punk gem. They deserved so much more attention than they got.

As if his superlative songwriting and singing weren't enough, Sweet got just a few, um, rookies to help out with the record:

Robert Quine (Richard Hell and the Voidoids, Lou Reed, Dim Stars)
Richard Lloyd (Television)
Ric Menck (Velvet Crush)
Greg Leisz (everybody)
Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello and the Attractions)
Byron Berline (Bill Monroe, The Flying Burrito Brothers, many more)
Ivan Julian (Richard Hell and the Voidoids)
Jody Stephens (Big Star)
Nicky Hopkins (The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, The Who, Quicksilver Messenger Service, many more)
Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac)
Fred Maher (Material, Massacre, Lou Reed, Richard Hell and the Voidoids)
Richard Dashut (producer - Fleetwood Mac's Rumours, Tusk, etc.)

Joy Division you sayyy? My interest is peaked. I shall check them out post-apocalypse piss up.

Has anyone ever noticed Joy Division have the same initials as Jack Daniels? The two singular greatest inventions of the modern world. Nah, me either. Thats is, not until I drank this bottle of Hop House 13. Let's hear it for alcohol yea; and let's be honest, pure ignorant stupidity, for not noticing.

Cheers.

She's kind of inescapable in my part of the country and I find it very uninteresting.

Sweden (C418 synthwave/80s)

that week was pretty weak in terms of music for me. i listened to like 3 or 4 albums. i didn't listened to much music becuase i was watching one thing that i'm too afraid to tell about

Savage Clone 05.24.2020 01:14 PM

Not bad. Definitely right down the middle of the synthwave sound but not so lightweight that it became saccharine.
