if Rae thinks he understands modern hip-hop so well.. let's see what he's got on his next solo album.

right right?

How was Shaolin Vs Wu-Tang btw?

I loved Wu-Massacre. I thought OB4CL2 was solid.

ALL of this Wu-infighting is making me nervous.
I don't really enjoy thinking about it. It's too close to home.
Of the bands and artists that have meant the most to me for the longest, there are so few that are still making music, still living, and still go by he same name.

Needless to say, Wu Tang Clan is one of them. And as far as hip hop is concerned, with the exception of Kanye West (a relatively recent addition) and Jay-Z (who I love but have already seen bow out once) NOBODY means more to me than Wu Tang clan. And there isn't a rap group in this world who I have much of a fuck about before them.

After feeling the emotional bitch slap SY's breakup caused, I'd rather Rza and Rae and GFK and GZA all get along and stay together, making mediocre music, or just touring, than watch them go out like a bunch of bitches.

I've always said they were the Beatles of hip hop, but the Beatles' break up was fucking depressing and resulted in some slams and shitty moves than threatened to ruin everything great they'd done. I don't want to watch these guys, friends since childhood, piss off like that.

Shaolin vs WuTang was damn good. Damn, damn, good. It's been a while, but I feel like I may have preferred it to Wu-Mass. But Wu-Massacre was ridiculous, and hard as fuck. OB4CL2 was of course a massive triumph. Isn't this pretty well established by now?

Chamber Music is also rigoddamndiculous. Even the ramblings of Deepak RZA are pretty badass.

I have to admit, I'd completely forgotten about the shit that lead up to the release of these albums. What made everyone say yes to making the one-of-kind album and the other one that's coming out soon or so hell me god I'll fucking fly to Shaolin and challenge the entire clan to some shadowboxin' nonsense!

Severian 04.18.2014 01:11 PM

no. I seem to be in a pretty old school place right now. Listening to the Nas and Mobb Deep reissues. I'm trying to think. Maybe the only 2014 hip hop album I've been into is - well the new Mobb Deep - and then that Spaceghostpurrp.

Like I mentioned too, I've been kind of into collecting physical copies of a lot of older hip hop CD's lately too. So it's got my mind kind of on old stuff instead of new stuff.

ANYWAY

Wu-Tang in-fighting... not to be a cynic, but part of me thinks that some of it is getting blown out of proportion as a hype-machine man. A lot of in-fighting leading up to an album release right?

louder 04.18.2014 01:32 PM

i liked Wu-Massacre when it came out.

OB4CL2 has some great songs like Ason Jones and the Dr. Dre-produced songs, but i rarely have the urge to listen to it.

never listened to Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang either.

wow, crazy.

noisereductions 04.19.2014 05:41 PM

so I feel like this slipped under everyone's radar:

it's actually really good man. It's only 12 tracks. Real lean. Just surprisingly solid beats, and the juxtaposition of Snoop and Wiz's flows is pretty awesome.

Jay Z was involved in an alleged extortion plot concerning master recordings that were previously thought to be lost, TMZ reports. Producer Chauncey Mahan, who worked with Hov from 1998 to 2002, was questioned by the Los Angeles police department on Friday regarding his possession of master tapes that Jay Z's camp assumed went missing in 2002.
Mahan allegedly contacted Live Nation, the concert promotion company that is partnered with Jay Z on Roc Nation, and said he would either let the tapes go up for auction or accept $100,00 for them. After agreeing to $75,000, he went to meet Jay Z's people, who had already contacted the LAPD. Mahan was then detained for questioning by the LAPD, who took possession of the tapes while it's determined who owns them.
TMZ reports that the tapes are worth $15 to $20 million. Mahan wasn't arrested, but the Beverly Hills police department is investigating him for extortion, while Jay Z's people have filed a grand larceny complaint with the NYPD.

uh so I think the thing to really take out of this is - maybe we'll get an album of unreleased 98-02 songs???

YEAH! I'm glad somebody else gave it a shot. I can't get over how much I'm feeling that record.

I bought that and Illmatic XX on mp3, but I need to pick up both physical copies soon. Nice collectibles.
