Yeah, this is a really good album. One I tend to forget about for some reason. I really liked I See Seaweed too. That one stands out for me a bit more.

Have you heard Feelin Kinda Free? It's got an absolutely kickass opener in "Private Execution." It's definitely worth a listen or twenty.

Used to be that I thought of the Drones as Liars-lite. Now they've become the band I wish to hell Liars had become, and are on a much more kickass path.

Do I LOOK like I'm made of money? Wilco tickets, Pylon pre-order, Brian Case pre-order, Carla Bozulich pre-order I'm as broke as Puerto Rico. Almost. But I will get Feelin Kinda Free as soon as possible.

That's kind of an off comparison... I understand Feelin Kinda Free has more electronic shenanigans than previous Drones albums, but they've been more of a demolishing garage/roots-rock-noir rock & roll band (with one helluva Shane McGowan meets Kurt Cobain force of nature on vocals).

Anyway, I've built my Drones collection chronologically ever since Courtney Barnett (this was when she just had the two EPs) said that when she went to the States interviewers would ask her what music she liked, and when she'd answer "The Drones", people would go, "...Who?"

Speaking of, this torrent is still alive:

Patti Smith's 'HORSES' (Courtney Barnett, Jen Cloher, Adalita, Gareth Liddiard) - 2015-10-18 Melbourne Festival, Melbourne, AU - Complete Webcast [1080p]

Also, from Wilco HQ:

Yeesh man. Didn't mean no offense. There are lots of ways to hear albums without buying them these days.

For the record I'm not made of money either. Far from it. And maybe it's just a deeply ingrained self-defeating character flaw, but as soon as I can buy an album I want, I do.

Anyway, you'll probably like it or something whatever.

ELAINE: Yeah, I thought you were being folksy.

GEORGE: Totally folksy.

Yes, I'm familiar with Seinfeld. ANYWAY... Drones are good and I buy music with abandon. That's my point here.

Known about AFC for a while but just starting to dig into what I can stream, haven't heard that one yet. Has some overlap with things I would like to do musically.

Same here actually. I like the mash-up of madrigal and metal, especially on Every Eleven Seconds.

Saw Amps years ago, opening for Animal Collective back when I was interested in Animal Collective. Amps pretty much blew them away, but it was kid of an appropriate pairing for where AnCo was at the time. I think the amps set was about as lost on the audience as Blonde Redhead was opening for the Chili Peppers.

Check out Canyons... and Bastard Noise and Man is the Bastard too if you haven't already.

That's a felony and you should pay for your crime.

And Pharoah, and Charnett Moffett (who played with Ornette, just like his father Charles), and it was produced by Bill Laswell, and it's simply one of the most overwhelmingly formidable albums of all time.

pepper_green 07.06.2016 06:58 PM

love some Pharoah.

let's just say I haven't been this overwhelmed by guitar playing in a long time. still needing to check "Guitar" but I think I bought it on iTunes in a haze.

Sonny Sharrock = good stuff!

Aphex Twin - Cheetah EP

I mistakenly called it a "glorified remix single" before actually hearing it. It's not. Shame on me. It's dope as hell.

the complete Hank Williams.

it's when you've got sick of everything else and drank too much beer your whole life to even enjoy a frat happy AC/DC rock n roll lifestyle.

fact is: this is amazing music for the folks with fuc u attitudes with growing beer bellies. great for getting buzzed up and down after the sixth beer while working on the lawnmower.

the classic: Long Gone Lonesome Blues
