Ok here's something I've been meaning to address:

Remember when Jay-Z posted a Twitter pic of all 12 of his proper albums, stacked, in descending order from best to worst?

Well, Kingdom Come was below EVERYTHING. Like, it was below Life and Times of S. Carter; it was below the jewel-speckled Vol. II, which has some of his best moments EVER, and some of the most corny and shitty shit he's ever shat.

Then he basically APOLOGIZED for it. "It was my first joint back in the game, Im sorry" Am I the only one who was like.... What?

Yeah, American Gangster is money, Black is forever, Doubt is a game changer, and Blueprint, and Blueprint III both brought him back into a game he was kind of half in at most at the time.

I'd have to put Kingdom Come immediately after those, his most baller, albums. No way does he have to apologize for that album. It was Jay-Z's comeback!!! I mean, motherfuckers were waiting in massive queues for that shit to drop. And it was a good thing, and people blasted the title track on the way back from whatever Best Buy or Tower they were stuck in all morning.

And Do You Wanna Ride? Helped etch out the blueprint for the kind of uplifting but moody songs that later just about every single he released were based on ( dope ass but pretty VH1 verses, with a bombastic, theatrical guest spot from some famous vocalist to give the song universal appeal).

It's a great album, and kicks Shit out of half of his catalogue.

Word.

noisereductions 04.14.2014 07:29 PM

There's some really good stuff on Kingdom Come, yeah. "Lost Ones" is amazing. Honestly, I think the Lifetime albums are pretty hit or miss, like you. But I def put most of his catalog about KC.

Pharrell cries while watching Happy homemade videos on Oprah Prime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQdjnh4_M5M

foreverasskiss 04.14.2014 07:59 PM

Pharrell should've known better. didn't he know everybody cries on Oprah. everybody!

its her aura of broken lonely housewives. god bless her.

guest 04.14.2014 10:13 PM

lana del rey? is this the death knell for man? where are the four fucking horsemen?

foreverasskiss 04.14.2014 10:21 PM

lana del rey is just exactly that skanky hoe i stay away from.

i can't believe these fucks listen to her boring ass music. she's like a worse trailer park trash version of the kardashians.

oh wait, that's just what these posters love.

bunch of white boy outsiders and mama boy shelters living vicariously throu hip hop/white slut trailer park soul while fucking that nerdy ugly girlfriend.

i would not even fuck that bitch. just nut on her neck and sigh and go home and fart. lame. so lame i want to scrape the skin crawlin lameness off with a paint scraper.

foreverasskiss 04.14.2014 10:40 PM

im not done:

she's the type of bitch that would suck and swallow my cum and i would pat her on the head.....then.....leave. ignore her out of satisfaction. then she would tell everyone i had a small dick(because she mad) while dreaming of how i put that swag on that that was inserted into her mouth. white bitch.

she's like a internet sensation fioan apple through hip hop. i bet college girls eat this up. experiment then end up with a boring fat headed white flubby dude.

Is it bad that i just dont care about this? Idk I wish hip hop bonus tracks could go beyond remixes for once.

noisereductions 04.16.2014 07:15 AM

of course it's bad that you don't care about something related to ILLMATIC. That said, here's my thoughts after a full listen last night:

Quote:

On one hand, I'm thrilled. On the other, I'm let down.

Illmatic is one of the absolute best 90's hip hop albums. Hands down. It's rare that an album makes you feel like "damn, this is too short."

The 20th anniversary edition should have been even bigger than it is. The bonus disc is only 10 tracks. Several of the remixes have already appeared on the From Illmatic To Stillmatic EP and the 10th anniversary bonus EP. So die-hards have em. The freestyle included is amazing. The inclusion of "I'm a Villain" from his 91 demo is awesome... but where's the rest of the demo tape??? Where's "One on One" from the Street Fighter soundtrack? Where's "Live at the BBQ" and "Back to the Grill"? This reissue could have been a sprawling 3-disc affair that really showcased the full legacy of this album.

Maybe for the 30th anniversary...

Q&A: Raekwon 'On Strike' From Wu-Tang, Blasts RZA for 'Mediocre' Music

"RZA's a coach who won rings back in the day, but now your team is in ninth place. It’s time for a new fucking game plan"

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...music-20140417

noisereductions 04.17.2014 12:59 PM

saw that. I feel like RZA and Rae have butted heads for years now right? I mean. What was the point of making Wu-Massacre and Shaolin vs Wu-Tang? I felt like they were both kind of 'rebel albums'.

One year ago, I started a mixtape / podcast series called Hellafine Fridays. Today, a mix from that series, The Arrival Of Kendrick Lamar, broke 10,000 plays on Soundcloud. This is a small feat in comparison to Kanye numbers, but it is a small milestone that I hit for the first time today. In “celebration” (seems like kind of a weird word to use here) of hitting this landmark, we will be producing a limited number of “platinum” individually tracked out CD’s of this mix. More information on how you can obtain a copy of the limited CD will be revealed in the near future. Until then, you can listen to the mix below. Thanks for the support everyone.

this is pretty cool, yeah?

I've kind of gotten on this kick of buying hip hop CD's again. it's weird. I've bought digital versions of albums for over a decade. But I don't know. I'm kind of in the mood to collect the physical copies and have liner notes to read thru, etc.

sounds better to me now than it did a decade ago.

you guys suck at responding. This always happens. whenever I have a bunch of stuff to post it's a friggin ghost town in here.

K... reading My Infamous Life by Prodigy right now.

Still listening to Infamous XX. My complaints about brevity of the bonus disc aside, it's a hell of a good bonus disc for what it is. That freestyle is great. Q-Tip's "World Is Yours" remix is incredible.
