THE BIRTHDAY PARTY - 3 live sets My favorite live album of all-all-all-time is “Live 1981-82″, an emotionally overwhelming posthumous compilation of material from The Birthday Party, released by 4AD several years ago. The BP were an all-consuming flame as a live act, something not entirely apparent if you listen to their studio releases which, while appropriately cluttered and insane, can be thin-sounding (with the exception of the apocalyptic “Mutiny” EP from ‘83, their final burst). I’ve started to collect Birthday Party live shows with the rabidness of a Grateful Dead-following douchebag, and here’s three of the better-sounding ones… The Birthday Party - University Refectory, Sydney, Australia, January 6th, 1982 (ZIP file) The Birthday Party - The Hacienda, Manchester, UK, 1982 (ZIP file) The Birthday Party - The Hacienda, Manchester, UK, 1983 (ZIP file) http://www.eggcityradio.com/ |
THE CURE
November 5th, 2007 Am enjoying my four-day vacation in Cleveland; hopped on a plane with a friend in L.A. who’s originally from there ‘cuz it’s his birthday, and he wanted me to hang out with him for heavy doses of Cleveland cuisine. Will have a full rundown of the glorious excess of our food tour soon — While in a record store, I picked up a 1982 back issue of the NME (never having read a full issue before), and found the mag to be in retrospect an odd mixture of Rolling Stone and Mad Magazine. Peculiar, given its reputation, although it’s entirely possible that I just wasn’t paying too close attention to certain parts of said reputation. If anyone out there has a pile of NME back issues (as well as Sounds, for that matter) from the ’70s up until the early ’80s, I’d love to take them off yr. hands. Get in touch if you wanna do a swap of some kind at i n f o @ e g g c i t y r a d i o . c o m. THE CURE - 3.14159 live sets I got a little misty-eyed when I ran the first of the downloads below, a set from Belgium in 1981, through my iPod headphone speakers last week. The recording quality is pretty good, and the version of “The Funeral Party” is particularly emotive and wonderful. I haven’t had time to give the others a full listen yet, but I know that at least their audio quality is worth giving them a shot as well. Also, the second set below (downloads 2 & 3) has no track listings, and the set from ‘85 is incomplete. DAVID BOWIE - live on “Musikladen”, 5.21.78 A killer band backed Bowie for his “Low And Heroes” world tour in ‘78, including guitarists Carlos Alomar and Adrian Belew. While in Germany, Bowie and the band laid down a 45-minute set for the television show “Musikladen”. My favorite performances from this gig are “Heroes”, “TVC15″ and the opening instrumental “Sense Of Doubt”. The “Alabama Song” cover is also pretty lame. BOREDOMS
October 4th, 2007 BOREDOMS - 2 live sets (1995/2005) Did any ECR readers out there in NYC go to the recent Boredoms show on 07/07/07 with 77(!) drummers? Sounded reminiscent of the Glenn Branca “Hallucination City: Symphony For 100 Guitars” event I saw at Disney Hall here in Los Angeles last year — The second of two sets below was recorded by a friend of mine, the International Voice Of Reason, who attended the show. The recording quality is a knockout, thanks to his proficiency with a MiniDisc recorder, and the knowhow on smuggling it into a venue without getting caught. <A href="http://www.eggcityradio.com/sharity/boredoms2.zip"> Boredoms - Live At The Knitting Factory, Los Angeles, CA, May 2005 (ZIP file) Boredoms - Live At KXLU 88.9fm Los Angeles, 1995 (ZIP file) http://www.eggcityradio.com/index.php?paged=2 |

Thanks, hipster_bebop_junkie.
Hmm, wonder what the interest level would be in demos from Black Flag's Damaged with Dez on vocals. Now I do know what the interest level will be on the share that follows, namely, next to nil, but here it is anyway. I upped this for the group and no one there has downloaded it so...here goes nothing... The .avis I've posted are at 128 kbps audio, so this'll sound at least pretty good through a stereo while watching it on TV after anyone interested has burned this. |
I'll re-up it if that happens. If the problem persists, maybe I can split part one down to less than 100 mb pieces each and badongo them. It's a really, really great show. Part one is definitely not to be missed. I got this only weeks or so ago and must have watched the whole thing at least ten times since then.
I probably shouldn't have numbered the tracks...oh well, oops. |

Cool. I can up a flawlessly sounding FM from a full-length concert she did in Switzerland this year. The thing is though that the performance is nowhere near as good as that '88 one. I suppose I can send it to the group. I must've missed that Pink Floyd one. I thought I nabbed it.
Wondering if you have the video for Pink Floyd at Earls Court 1980. The Wall is not one of my absolute favorite albums of theirs, but it's a mindblowingly great performance. I could do that one instead for now. I'm also thinking of splitting up the Downtown '81 movie into videos and/or a Don Cherry video called "Det Är Inne Min Musik" from a documentary from '78; it's in English with Swedish subtitles. Pork, a couple of weeks or so ago I tried to PM you the link a few times for the complete discography of Action Swingers, but your mailbox was full, and the link is now expired. You may already have them all, I don't know, but I thought I'd try to pay you back for turning me on to them. |

The first fourteen tracks also appear on the Acoustic Motherfuckers bootleg (which, incidentally, fills out the remainder of the disc with cuts from '93 at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin from the Voodoo Brew bootleg). I omitted the tracks from '93 to keep this all from the Mick Taylor-era. I've cited the sources as given on Acoustic Motherfuckers (Unplugged offers no sources), but have my questions. 12 probably recorded at Elektra Studios in Los Angeles between late '69 & early '70 5, 7, 14 probably actually recorded at Stargroves (Mobile) Studio, (Jagger's house) East End, Newbury, UK during mid-'69 9, 10, 13 probably recorded at Muscle Shoals Studios, Muscle Shoals, AL Dec. '69 If anyone has any input, please let me know. |
These album outtakes aren't "acoustic" (see post above), but will go nicely just before "Wild Horses" if you are so inclined. Both are from Beggar's Breakfast and feature Nicky Hopkins on keys.
They were most likely recorded at Stargroves and then overdubbed and mixed at Sunset Sound and/or Elektra Studios in L.A. Brown Sugar - early mix with different lead guitar by Mick Taylor http://www.badongo.com/file/7145701 Sway (early acetate) http://www.badongo.com/file/7145410 |

Totally missed it, thanks a million. From the '07 reunion I've got Little Kings (first one in Athens), The Earl (Atlanta) and Local 506 (Chapel Hill), all taped by Sloan Simpson.
I usually don't bother with too many audience recordings but for Sonic Youth (naturally) and for (in this case) Pylon, I'll always make an exception! nyctaper seeds torrents at dime, but they haven't done this one, at least yet; again, thanks. I don't have the Syd...before you upload, "The Perfumed Garden" blog might have it posted. They do a lot of Peel Sessions. Then again, disregard that, it's a short set, so you might as well up it lossless like you wrote. I've been trying to do a lossless up for the "All Tomorrow's Parties" boot all day and badongo keeps getting stuck. It's almost 400 MB, but I would suppose it should work and just split it up into parts automatically like it does with files over 100 MB. |
I actually think I have it on a DIY Syd comp, but it was from less than 128 kbps mp3s that I downloaded many years ago from a blog. Yours will be a nice upgrade.

Click on the panels to download artwork Kraftwerk K4: Bremen Radio 1971 [SEIDR 026] Liveat Gondel Kino, Bremen, Germany, June 25, 1971. "There isn't any extra information about this unofficial release either in the liner notes or on the interweb thing - however, as you listen it becomes obvious that this is indeed a recording of the rather short-lived lineup of Kraftwerk that includes Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger in its ranks! That's right - Neu! as part of Kraftwerk!!! "It's basically a whole CD of extended "side-long" jams in the style of the first Kraftwerk albums performed in front of a small but enthusiastic audience and broadcast on Bremen Radio in 1971. The members of Neu! really take a forward role here, with Rother's guitar driving things for most of the time and sounding quite rocking, with glimpses of his future soaring melodic sound in the extended jam passages. The guitar and drums are backed up by synth and I believe organ bass, with notable exceptions of flute taking the forefront on the great version of Ruckzack (from the first Kraftwerk LP) and is it distorted electric violin on K4? Maybe just Rother taking a violin bow to his guitar strings! Proto-Kraftwerk and proto-Neu! It's exciting stuff, and on top of that the sound quality is excellent - a professional radio recording. "How has this recording not become better known over the past 35 years since it was made?! I don't know. It appears to be a newly released CDR edition with good-quality (but privately printed) packaging. Maybe it has stayed in the Radio Bremen archives until now? If you're sceptical about the authenticity I'm sure a listen will persuade you... and hearing someone in the crowd shout "Michael!" in the last second of the recording is the icing on the cake." - Little Bear [who shared the recording on the internet] This isn’t the motorik, some might even say monotonous, electronic sound of Kraftwerk. Early Kraftwerk were more experimental with sounds and effects - not quite dance music. - The Little Chicken Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality, stereo MP3s - sample rate of 192 kibit/s).
