Lou Reed - S/T

Can't believe how underrated this album seems to be.

Mobile Fidelity has started making audiophile pressings of records I actually want lately. I scored a copy of Echo and the Bunnymen's "Heaven Up Here" yesterday, and it sounds fucking amazing. Apparently they also gave the MoFi treatment to Sisters Of Mercy's "First And Last And Always," which I also plan on tracking down. I don't know that most SoM recordings would benefit much from audiophile houses, but that recording had some kind of budget I suppose. We'll see. In any case, nice to see that little top line on something other than a "really well-recorded" Melissa Manchester LP or something. The other old MoFi records I want are just too expensive now, so this was a nice surprise.

Headup - Deftones

heard it in a movie and thought it was cool.

The only stylus stuff I know is ridiculously expensive, but I can heartily recommend the Grado black or green cartridges for their quality and reasonable cost. I usually just troll craigslist for a good used deal. Sometimes you can find a vintage Thorens, Empire or Dual for a good price. Failing that, there are always used Tech1200s out there if you can find one that was used by more of a hobbyist than a working DJ.

If you want to drool, look at this thing. My bandmate runs a high end audio company and designs amps, preamps and turntables. He uses the Tri-Planar tonearm on his turntables. It's amazing. Also made here in Mpls, coincidentally. He told me my turntable would be an audiophile piece if I upgraded the tonearm to one of these. Cost-prohibitive of course, but what a beautiful thing this is.

Lydia Lunch - Carnival Fat Man

Bytor - I think those tonearms are about 4 grand. Not getting one of those, I don't think. At least I get to hear one sometimes...

That is a great comp. I sold a copy of that for a fairly ridiculous amount of money at my old job.

Genteel Death 07.30.2012 04:18 PM

All killer no filler to my ears. I am trying to find out if it's been reissued because I wouldn't mind getting my hands on a copy.

Meanwhile I found out that this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ca2v...&feature=share has been reissued by Was Soll Das and I'm currently trying to score it online.

Savage Clone 07.30.2012 04:30 PM

Wow, that's excellent. I saw the link to the Gleitzeit EP in the youtube sidebar there too, which is also amazing. That Gleitzeit 7inch was also one I sold for a fairly high price (but not ultra-high, around $50-60) for work, and I wish now that I had gotten it for myself. I love this kind of thing.
