skiffle?

Glice 08.09.2008 11:54 AM

Skiffle! That'd literally be good.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 07:06 PM

Skiffle dub! I'd buy that in a hot minute.

Other news - I'm recording more stuff now - it's a "secret", but will post up as soon as it's ready to go.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 07:26 PM

Eric Clapton Unplugged. Sold how many million? Effectively a skiffle album. Makes you think.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 07:28 PM

Yeah, you be right. He's no Lonnie Donnegan, though.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 07:40 PM

All that money, all that technology, all that time. To discover what? that people do love a bit skiffle.

MellySingsDoom 08.09.2008 07:43 PM

"Cumberland Gap" is pure r n r Win. No Elvis, of course, but no L Donnegan = no Beatles or Stones.

demonrail666 08.09.2008 07:44 PM

It's all about the Formby

right, well, the transformation has begun.

i guess you'd call it sort of an evil blues rock, but whatever it is it's what comes naturally to me, not all that other shit which was experimental for the sake of being experimental. my life just got way easier.

keep in mind that this is the very shell of a song, like the embryo of a song if you like. and if you think it's shit you can tell me so, i don't mind, but i didn't even mix it or anything.

MellySingsDoom 08.11.2008 01:53 PM

Cantanky - I'm very impressed with your song embryo thing - very bluesy, as you say, with dollops of distortion and shit. Sounds like it could be very promising re-recorded with bass and drums. Well done to ya, you beastly rock monster :)

sounds good. great guitar tone. i like the feed back that sprawls throughout the songs.
it might sound good if its an instrumental as it is but in the last ten seconds sing like one verse and then end it.
and i liked the ending.

Insignificant 08.11.2008 10:57 PM

I might have mentioned this before, but I'm part of a small-time experimental outfit called Autosuggestion. We're pretty eclectic and odd, and have a habit of skipping through various styles of music with reckless abandon with mixed results; Sort of like H.N.A.S. or Nurse with Wound, if only because we share a certain dark-but-snarky tone and total lack of real (genre) consistency. We've released some not-entirely-presentable demo material on the Interweb, but I'd prefer you get any further released material direct (if you're so inspired)...

Our first real gig is an upcoming opening slot for the Sea Trio at World Café Live on 15 October. Oddly enough, we aren't listed on the venue's website with the other acts. I think it's because we were invited to open for them after the blurb was written. Still, disconcerting.

Cantankerous 08.12.2008 12:07 AM

thanks melly and fugazifan

and yeah, as i said, it's like the shell of a song, it's not even demo quality, but i'm absolutely going to keep working on it and re-recording until i'm happy with it. i would love to build a studio if i had the space for it, but i don't.

Cantankerous 08.13.2008 09:56 AM

ima try and scam some studio time off my friend so i can put some stuff down properly.

anthony89 08.13.2008 09:29 PM

new project that you guys might dig

i was inspired by Monorails and Satellites by Sun Ra (which is the genious himself sitting alone at a piano) to create some strange solo guitar stuff. All improvised and recorded live. I didn't want to let the tracks run too long because i can't usually take this stuff in large quantities, something i stole from the Faust Tapes. I also wanted the pieces to be really abstract, but not obnoxious----> let me know what you think

i am once again bandless.

if anyone is in the tucson area, and would like to start a band with a brutal prog/skronk/free jazz/no wave/grind sound email me at alehrer1@email.arizona.edu

Spiritinthesky 08.14.2008 01:45 PM

Years ago I was in a band called The Cheaters.
I played lead guitar, we were like The Clash meets early Rolling Stones!
We made 3 albums. And for a time were signed to Parlophone in the UK which as The Beatles label was pretty cool for us!

i made up a "solo" for that song i was working on while i was fucking around on guitar
https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q...bWd0QTJ4dnc9PQ

shit quality recording
and it's in the wrong key for the song, it's a half step up because the guitar i was playing it on was in standard but i'll fix that when i record it.

MellySingsDoom 08.17.2008 02:53 PM

Yep, it's a good 'un, Cantankers!

Death & the Maiden 08.18.2008 01:25 AM

https://www.yousendit.com/download/Q...eDNoMlh2Wmc9PQ
it sounds like shit because i recorded it in the bathroom

but here you go

viewtiful_alan 08.21.2008 06:09 PM

I cannot for the life of me find a like minded drummer.

My one music partner basically is just a pothead who goes with the flow... XD and has no real musical knowledge (he's a tab reader)

I have the same problem, except I can't find anyone at all. Maybe a drum machine or learning drums yourself is the answer.

MellySingsDoom 08.24.2008 08:35 AM

al shabbray - just finished listening to your MySpace tunes. Very, very good stuff indeeed, sir! Great sounds and good production. Good work, fella :)
