Haven't driven that way myself so I'm not familiar. I do love having the mountains surrounding me here. I can take a walk and look over and see mountains. It's nice.

I want to steal that coffee shop in the double-decker bus on the main drag where the Orange Peel etc is.

Oh yeah man, a great place. I can take my dog there and sit outside with a coffee.

I haven't been to Orange Peel yet. It's hard to go to shows alone. :(

Sonic Youth 37 10.17.2009 07:47 PM

The Orange Peel is good. I prefer the Grey Eagle...it's a bit more out of the way but it's a very intimate venue with a nice restaurant/bar toward the back. The get smaller and more "acoustic" bands.

gmku 10.17.2009 07:50 PM

Some of the "nicest" music I've heard has been at Jack of the Wood where little local acoustic groups get together and jam. Old-timey music usually, or slightly Celtic, but it's mellow and pleasant.

Sonic Youth 37 10.17.2009 07:53 PM

I haven't heard of that. It seems like a cool place but the whole Asheville "element" is a little out of my scene. I've kind of always looked at it as a lost commune in the mountains. If I ever want to see a barefoot, dreaded, 20-something in a poncho selling jars of some unknown substance at a gas station, I need only drive there.

knox 10.17.2009 07:56 PM

RIGHT.

stop ignoring me.

jon boy 10.17.2009 08:00 PM

pay no attention to gmku. he's just a dirty old man with too much time on his hands. seriously he's apporoaching 60. anyway, buy more beer.

It is a bit sri lanka like, inn't it? But that's its groove, and I kinda like it. The toorists ruin the vibe tho, so when you come here, don't be toorist.

I dig you. I just don't know how to relate to lesbians very well. Especially attractive ones.

Whenever I meet an attractive lesbian, I have to pretend I have no interest in making love to her.

knox 10.17.2009 08:13 PM

except that i am not a lesbian.
im sorry.
i know you want me to be one.

gmku 10.17.2009 08:14 PM

Oh, well, in that case, you won't find it objectionable that I have such an interest etc... .

knox 10.17.2009 08:15 PM

do i have the lesbian vibe? if so, why.

oh god.

jon boy 10.17.2009 08:16 PM

no you dont have a lesbian vibe.

Ha ha. No, I'm teasing. I was riffing off the best girlfriend showing up and all that. And making a vague North by Northwest/Cary Grant allusion. Trying to be humorous. Epic fail. Sorry.

knox 10.17.2009 08:19 PM

i was informed today that someone i know who used to be a lesbian decided to be a new born christian.

i dont know why she had to drop such a good religion for such a meh one.

gmku 10.17.2009 08:20 PM

Ha, yeah, damn, what a let down! I would so go to the Church of Wimmenz.

god these fucking references.
i keep picturing you like some guy with hair gel in a big dark carpeted living room with wood everywhere and some bottles of rare wine that ud be showing and discussing, smoking a cigar wearing a robe.

gmku 10.17.2009 08:24 PM

1. I don't have enough hair left for hair gel.

2. I don't have enough money left for rare wine. Thus the beer fixation.

3. I don't have big dark carpeted living room. I have small carpeted 900-sq-ft apartment.

4. I get nauseated at cigar smoke.

5. I need a new robe for Christmas.

6. What does this all have to do with Cary Grant and North by Northwest?, i.e., if you haven't watched this movie yet, you are wasting your life.

knox 10.17.2009 08:26 PM

i will picture you anyway i want to.

gmku 10.17.2009 08:27 PM

Please do!

gmku 10.17.2009 08:31 PM

Sonny

Rollins

I take refuge in the Blue Note jazz, I take refuge in the whatcha doin thread, I take refuge in the knox.

knox 10.17.2009 08:37 PM

gmku 10.17.2009 08:40 PM

I would love to take an evening to, er, introduce you to the better stuff.

knox 10.17.2009 08:43 PM

ive been introduced to lots of beer. but whatever is thick and feels like i should eat it with a spoon gives me a headache. and i like liquid light beer so i can have lots of it and piss a lot. its my fav part.

Saturdays and Sundays are my favorite days. I sleep late, I eat and drink, I be lazy.
