Yeah- At.Long.Last.A$AP (aka ALLA... Ha!) is now slated for June 2, which still seems mighty early. I wouldn't be surprised if one more delay was announced.

(Btw: has anyone else been sitting around in the 24 months since Long.Live.A$AP, imagining what the next title of his album would be? I have, and I've gotta say, I thought a "All.Hail.A$AP" would be next. Am I crazy or does that feel like a totally probable future album title?)

Severian 05.08.2015 08:05 PM

So what are everyone's thoughts on the B-sides concert Jay-Z's planning in promotion of Tidal?

noisereductions 05.08.2015 08:08 PM

I think it sucks it will be a tidal exclusive

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.08.2015 08:10 PM

He's turning into a pretty solid hip hop experimenter.

I hope he gets picked up by GOOD Music. Actually, I'm not sure why that hasn't happened yet. Seems like a pretty perfect match if you ask me.

i like how he was too weird for Interscope to handle. he should've signed with GOOD in the first place, but he was too young to really know what he was doing.

Yeah Severian somehow doesn't like Abe's phenomenal drumming.. it boggles my mind yet also ive been listening to this band since 1997 and ive always gotten more static than found fellow fans so im used it..

Around the fur shove it bored engine no9 Be quiet and drive head up digital bath change passenger beauty school rocket skates sextape diamond eyes romantic dreams leathers poltergeist rosemary lotion hexagram cherry waves..knife party elite

A fantastically balanced set list including tracks from every record.. i was very surprised Chino did the hip hop tracks from around the fur and adrenaline. He has said he never liked his raps and that he doesn't like adrenaline.. but its one of my favorite aspects of early deftones indeed its what initially caught my attention with them

Severian 05.09.2015 10:23 PM

There are hip hop tracks on Around the Fur?

I do not recall. Some kinda RATM-y spitting, drowned out by noise, certainly, but honest to got hip hop tracks like ... Shit... Like "Wicked"?

I don't remember that on around the fur.

I just remember Be Quiet and Drive being one of the best uses of Drop D tuning on the radio that year, and everything else sounding like a knife fight in a phone booth compared to the music made by the rest of the band's buddies.

I should pop that album in. I used to never leave home without it.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.09.2015 11:29 PM

The third verse on around the fur is a rap so is Lotion, the break beat in my own summer is hip hop azz fuhg. Head Up is a rap. really all the drum work from around the fur is hip hopx if you played tjust the bass and drum tracks from that youd swear it was rap.

From adrenaline Engine No 9 and minus blindfold are a straight rap..

There is Pink Maggot on white pony..

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.10.2015 01:38 AM

Also, i adore be quiet and drive. That intro hits me as hard as it did 17 years ago when i first heard it but neither it nor any thing on Around The Fur are in drop D, steph plays seven string. Oh, to be sure i play that entire album on my own guitar from beginning to end (literally) in a drop Db BUT steph is playing them in a standard tuning on 7string downtuned a half step

Yeah I know Adrenaline is filled with that muck. My least favorite Deftones record. I say again: they could have been Faith No More 2!

Ah yes, I had almost completely forgotten about the ridiculous 7 string trend. Still, it amounts to roughly the same thing. I'm a little embarrassed that I made such an egregious error, but It's been a while since I listened to these guys. I like to fuck around with drop tunings myself, but it's usually to record rhythm parts that have a more "Good Morning Captain Outro" type of feel than to play out and out metal.

I'm glad you had fun at the show. For all my shit talking, I actually have a lot of respect for Deftones. Saw them at (blegh) Warped tour way back when, and they saved me from wasting the entire price of a ticket.

On the first two albums (or, rather, the first mixtape and the first album... Though I've got a retail print of Live.Love around here somewhere. Maybe just a promo... Anyway on those albums, the covers really helped establish Rocky's (God I hate saying things like this) brand.

There's a sense of ceremony, and uniformity to the whole feel of A$AP Mob, and the first cover was a simple but startling and powerful image. The cover of Long.Live.A$AP took it further. It was still black and white, but the image was high definition, and super official. Plus, it was a nice play on the whole Rocky thing. He managed to make totally different kind of image using the same basic elements, and the result was iconic. One of the best hip-hop album covers of the era.

But... shit... This looks pretty goddamn whack to me.

The Yams tribute motif is a nice idea but whatever the fuck they've got going on now looks like a cross between Manson and

I mean, what's with the white washed look? The contrastless black and white over black and white? It is not an aesthetic pleasure to behold. Not one bit.

noisereductions 05.10.2015 06:36 PM

You have a retail non cdr of Live.Love? Care to part w that???

I have a retail bootleg of it called Gold.

Severian 05.10.2015 08:35 PM

Am I crazy, or is he just straight up wearing an A$AP Yams face like he's Hannibal goddamn Lector?

I'm still pumped for this record, but that cover needs work.

On the upside, at least the album isn't called SWISH. ;)

I sure as hell thought I did, but now I guess I'm not sure. Mind you, I work nights at a record store, so I bring home some weird shit. I have a label pressed copy of Traxman's Da Mind of Traxman 2, which I've never seen anywhere else.

I don't wanna make a liar out of myself, so I'm not insisting that I have it. I'm gonna dig through my last few years of hard copies though before I make a definitive statement about it.

noisereductions 05.10.2015 09:10 PM

There were silver cd promos so you might. The ones on ebay are all cdrs tho nowadays.

rebeccagotcursedout 05.10.2015 10:34 PM

complete shit.

louder 05.11.2015 01:40 AM

i don't care about Tupac's sexyness, can we talk about Vince Staples' debut album instead? i actually see it as a serious album of the year contender.. it's my most anticipated album right now, seeing as there's no sign of a Kanye album coming out anytime soon.

louder 05.11.2015 01:41 AM

also, did anyone here listen to Childish Gambino's last album? i'm about to give it a try.

louder 05.11.2015 02:12 AM

some Vince interviews:

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/interv...t-barack-obama

http://www.self-titledmag.com/2015/0...vince-staples/

that was a great read. i like how honest he is, and smart. perhaps too smart for his own good.

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 05.11.2015 11:21 AM

Id rather talk about tupac sexiness myself..

Dude don't say that. DON'T YOU SAY THAT!!! It's coming, ok? He's just fucking around a bit. I mean, yes it has taken him WAY too long. He had another album from the Yeezus sessions mixed and ready for mass production in June of 2013! Why the hell did that never surface? And remember back in August when it was "definitely coming soon. As early as September" of 2014?

I know it's frustrating... REALLY FUCKING FRUSTRATING... but Kanye's never gone more than 2 years and a couple of weeks between albums if you include WTT and Cruel Summer... Round about mid-July he'll be breaking that record if he doesn't drop something SOON.

I refuse to believe that Ye would keep audiences waiting much longer. The album is almost certainly finished. I heard he sent in the final version like, back in November, but in Feb. it was "80%" ... Whole lotta contradicting information here, but sometimes he fucks around in the last few weeks before a drop.

If he doesn't drop an album in 2015, knowing full well that he has at least 2 albums worth of material in the can, he's going to lose momentum in a way he never has before. All that hype after the BRIT awards, when All Day was blowing up all over the fuckin planet... why didn't he drop it then? Because he's either lost his shit, or he knows the perfect time isn't quite here.

Have faith.

And seriously, Vince Staples? You're more interested in that than you are in A$AP's new joint? What about Views from the 6? What about the new Frank Ocean? What are you even saying right now bro?

Nah. A$AP might be my #2 favorite rapper on the current scene. It sounds like you're talking about a bunch of other rappers, but I think you must have Rocky confused with... I don't know... Wiz or some shit.

I like Wiz myself. But he's more the stoned idiot type. The "hey I smoke weed and have made movies with snoop dogg in which we both play high school students who smoke weed" kind of way.

That's not Rocky. Kid's got it.

Vince is great dude. i don't expect "Views" to come out before 2016, Drake is still working on it and trying to invent a new sound. i'll lose my shit about Frank when the release date gets closer.

Severian 05.12.2015 06:45 AM

Don't get me wrong, I like Vince a lot. Loved (LOVED) Hell Can Wait. One of 2014's most unexpectedly relentless tapes.

I'm just saying in a year where Kanye, A$AP, Drake (I think Views will be out by October personally... "OVO" and whatnot), Frank Ocean and so many other heavy hitters are dropping new albums, I can't imagine how a relative newb like Vince can be the star of the show for anyone. But who am I to judge? Nobody. That's who.

noisereductions 05.12.2015 07:12 AM

like i've been saying, 2015 is unreal year for hip hop already. This is 2013+.

I'm def looking for that Vince Staples too. Loved Hell Can Wait. He showed incredible restraint on there, which I admire. He could have came w/ a major label debut that was y'know 79 minutes, 59 seconds... but instead did an EP that was all awesome and solid. That shows the care and thought put into his craft.

I was listening to some stuff yesterday, and I actually feel like B4.DA.$$ and Mr. Wonderful are prob my 2 favorite hip hop albums so far this year. Which is weird to say since Ghostface and Kendrick both dropped albums.

At any rate, Rocky & Kanye will surely change that I'd imagine.

louder 05.12.2015 09:09 AM

it could be a classic major label debut by a West Coast rapper like good kid m.A.A.d city and My Krazy Life. no one actually saw how good they were going to be. of course it could also end up being a huge letdown like Oxymoron. but the potential is definitely there.

louder 05.12.2015 11:30 AM

just finished listening to Magna Carta for the first time in a while. only song i can't stand is the first one with Timberlake. such a nice album.
