because not everyone proclaims their hatred of pitchfork only to adore every mediocre hunk of crap they heap praise on. and because not everyone likes the sound of the THX intro run through ableton distortion.

The fuck man?

I'm not saying you SHOULD like him, I'm just surprised you don't, for some reason. Fine with me either way. You really don't have to be a prick about it. Why would you be a prick about it?

I just asked a damn question. And yet you just NEEDED to flex those balls at me. Be nice.

Also, Pitchfork likes Ben Frost? Weird thing for a guy who hates Pitchfork and Ben Frost to know.

I'm turning around a bit on Kurt Vile. He's growing on me. I'll probably get this.

Annie says:

Quote:

hi, all.

it’s been a while. (yes, i did mean to put nickelback in all of your heads.) songs, albums, videos, shows, press. putting out a record is like having a bridezilla-style* wedding every 2-3 years. lots of “did you get the save the date? it was an email cause, you know, the planet…” and fussing over flower arrangements, except you’re walking down the aisle to your own music by yourself, to your "self." your bridesmaids and groomsmen are your label, agents, managers, day managers, personal assistants standing expectant with a mixture of stress, excitement, pride. the fans are the attendees, who will pick sides (this side prefers the old you walking down the aisle, this side is onboard for the new you waiting at the altar, there is definitely one person who will protest the marriage in a drunken, dramatic way…) a lot of pomp. plenty of circumstance.

but sometimes what gets lost in all the mothers-in-law, speeches, and seating arrangements (has this metaphor stretched so thin that it belies the fact that i have neither attended many weddings, nor aspired to my own?) is this simple fact: it’s about love^. at its best and at its core, its about love. that’s it. that’s all. that is literally the only point. (and i mean "literally" to mean literally.) this record is from my heart to yours. i hope it finds its way there.

love,

ac

*yo, i know it’s sexist AF.
^for the sake of the emotional momentum of this note, we are choosing to ignore that centuries of marriage were not, in fact, about love but about wealth consolidation/women as chattel%

w/r/t the new LCD Soundsystem--really solid on first listen. A few songs on here remind me of Talking Heads.

The songs get really stuck in my brain space and lead to some dreary moods, so I've been listening less. But I agree. It's good.

i hate to be one of THOSE people, but kurt vile was way better before he caught on. god is saying this to you and fall demons were phenomenal, but after that he turned into bob seger.

courtney barnette is cute as a button but i haven't tried her stuff. i assume it's generic contemporary folk that's been done to death?

Wrong you are. Best songwriter to emerge in AGES, and a bunch of her songs fuckin' ROCK. Well, they all rock, but I meant pedal to the metal rock.

d.sound 09.08.2017 04:34 PM

i'll check her out then.

but

HOLY SHIIIIIT! i just got done listening to the new jan st werner (mouse on mars, lithops, microstoria). it is FUCKING INSANE. completely unlike anything he's done before. kinda reminds me of some merzbow i've heard. (not a merzbow fan though. i like noise, but there has to be some element of musicality to it for me to enjoy.) this is probably the closest thing to complete chaos that i've liked, but it's still fun to listen to. i will definitely be listening to this a lot.

has kaitlyn aurelia smith been mentioned yet? her newest album is pretty sweet. track 2 is wonderful.

dirty bunny 09.08.2017 07:16 PM

the only album of interest to me I've seen that's coming out is the new Godspeed album "Luciferian Towers".

Knowing me, it'll be at least a few years before I get around to listening to it.

dirty bunny 09.09.2017 02:30 PM

oh shit Mogwai has a new record?! OK

noisereductions 09.09.2017 02:41 PM

Yeah I need to hear that.

in case you didn't know yet:
there are two tracks streaming already on their bandcamp page
that last song is awesome, can't wait to hear the first two sections of that Anthem For No State.
don't like the first track so much yet, but it's definitely worth to listen it completely :)

and more news from Constellation Records
Esmerine will release their new album on 20 October 2017

thanks! I'm checking that out

I think right now is an excellent time for a little GY!BE in full-on combat mode. I want to hear some goddamn Trump voter audio samples in their new songs. My god that would be amazing.

Lydia Lunch/Rowland S. Howard - Siberia

“For the first time on vinyl, here it is this astonishing performance from 1993 where Lydia Lunch and Rowland S. Howard exposed the intensity and most extreme sound as well as their perfect harmony and fraternity. The band includes Jim Sclavunos (from Sonic Youth, The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, etc.) and Harry Howard (from These Immortal Souls). An absolutely necessary recording for all fans of these magnificent artists. Released under license from WidowSpeak Productions.”
