ssssso, nancy pelosi says no us-uk trade deal if ireland peace process is harmed by brexit lmao

(trade deals need the approval of congress)

Bertrand 04.17.2019 10:06 AM

Pffff...
French billionaires offer hundreds of millions of euros to save Notre Dame (our good president's said in 5 five years it'll be all brand new - our good liar).
When you donate, over half of what you've paid will not be claimed from you on your income taxes.
Over 20 weeks of protests against the govenrment's decisions and their impact on the biggest part of the population, and millions of euros are being found. How sweet...

didn’t he give them a tax cut just recently? they must be flush

Bertrand 04.18.2019 06:01 AM

... and a kiss on the cheek too, you're right.

!@#$%! 04.19.2019 07:52 AM

there’s an article on the washington post about tax deductions for donations, and how the public ends up paying for most of those donations. the french deduction is like 66%. i’ll link for you later

at the same time, forbes is saying “ dont hate the rich” who are donating for reconstruction. haaahaaahaa

i’ll try to post both.

originally came here to say an off duty journalist was shot dead in a northern ireland riot. she was just watching near the cops and caught a bullet. damn...

!@#$%! 04.19.2019 07:34 PM

@bertrand— here is the forbes article
https://www.forbes.com/sites/stephen...k-the-wealthy/

the opposing one comes later

!@#$%! 04.20.2019 02:02 PM

i was looking for the article and found this photo instead

yes i am a bad man

!@#$%! 04.20.2019 02:10 PM

ANYWAY, found the article which basically argues that for every euro donated by a billionaire the public coffers have to pony up 2

https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...nt-thank-them/

in france, where 50% of the population pays no income taxes, that means the middle class has to carry the load

The lesson is that if we are to celebrate the generosity of donors, we should acknowledge that French citizens are in fact paying for the majority of the giving in the form of tax subsidies. It’s not just giving, it’s giving that is underwritten by the public. What’s more, philanthropic tax incentives give power to individual donors, especially ultrawealthy ones, to dictate large amounts of government spending, regardless of other citizens’ spending priorities.

contrast vs. the forbes article above

!@#$%! 04.21.2019 08:19 AM

the forbes guy is a supply sider and takes it too far

im tired of the discourse that infinite tax cuts lead to infinite gains

just does not bear out. we’ve known this for a long time now. and yet they insist. with no evidence.

!@#$%! 04.21.2019 08:54 AM

im afraid to look at news of the sri lanka bombings

Rob Instigator 04.22.2019 11:56 AM

Horror.

when religions fight, it is a battle between deluded dipshits which will not end until on or both sides are all dead.

Wasn't sure where to post this but here seems as good a place as any

Debate between Jordan Peterson and Slavoj Zizek

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGRC5AA1wF0

Fan of both but ultimately more convinced by Zizek - although lots of valid points from Peterson. Both fundamentally oppose identity politics so at times it felt like they were struggling to find areas they could disagree on. Plus an absolutely horrible audience, treating it like a contest. Still a great watch for anyone into this stuff.

!@#$%! 04.23.2019 08:22 AM

wow i *just* read a mention of this debate maybe 3 hours ago (in a letter of protest for cambridge weaseling out on peterson's invite, published by the nyt today)

thanks for posting it

It's pathetic. Even if people disagree with Peterson he's a credible and relevant voice. I'd like to think Cambridge will lose a lot of academic credibility over this, and outside the university bubble it probably will, but inside it, where group-think is now the law, they'll no doubt be celebrated for it. I'd say it's a joke, except it isn't even remotely funny.

Feel like this might be the rare time where we all agree with each other on this one.

No idea how it got to the state where people are so afraid of listening to other people's opinions that they'd rather shut it down than listen. I was arrogant to think that it'd just be confined to American colleges, but the grim reality is that it's hit here just as bad.

!@#$%! 04.23.2019 09:34 AM

man, zizek needs a dentist vacuum to drain that mouth. it's hard to understand at times. i have to retune my ear and even then it's 9/10.

!@#$%! 04.23.2019 10:11 AM

haaaa haaaaa just finished listening to both speeches-- now they're gonna talk

so far, peterson was absolutely no-nonsense whereas zizek was brilliant

i really enjoying this
