How was it? I actually picked up a copy of this last week, but have yet to get around to reading it.

Cantankerous 09.16.2006 08:48 PM

i actually like that book a lot.

nomadicfollower 09.16.2006 08:50 PM

I take it it's good then.
That is, if I can trust cantankerous's opinion.

Cantankerous 09.16.2006 08:52 PM

nomadicfollower 09.16.2006 08:53 PM

Alex's Trip 09.16.2006 08:54 PM

Huh, so you were going somewhere with that.
Fine. I take it's a good book and I look forward to reading it.

It's alright. I was a bit disappointed, personally. (But it was better than "The Consolations Of Philosophy".) I think Alain de Botton just quotes other people too much and doesn't have enough of a sense of humour for me. His writing style is nothing special, he just knows a lot and can quote it. He's a great researcher, I'll give him that.

I did enjoy the final chapter on "Bohemia" though.. but mostly for the subject matter (rather than his prose or his insight into the subject.)

"Dracula" is a good read. A lot of people may not like it as its written in a series of letters but I just read it like it was a first person narrative. I saw the Francis Ford Copolla film years before and its a bit difficult to not think of it, but over all its a good book. Definately a must read, its a classic.

it was assigned reading for me in eighth grade and i could barely penetrate the crazy wording. i was convinced Dickens just made up his own grammar rules. i imagine it would be significantly easier to read now.

other than that, it was a pretty good story.

School books. Reading for fun is so last year.

nomadicfollower 09.16.2006 11:02 PM

Since reading for school is so cool.

HaydenAsche 09.16.2006 11:04 PM

Not cool but fucking required. I don't want to fail.

nomadicfollower 09.16.2006 11:04 PM

Since not failing school is so cool.

HaydenAsche 09.16.2006 11:06 PM

I know. Amounting to something is so underrated.
