@pokkeherrie: my source hasn't been able to figure out the schedule. but... he says only 2 band are playing, which would mean that Chaton is probably joining the ex. in other words: it will be over before 0:00. so make sure you get there and dance away on 'Theme from Konono'. |
Cool, thanks for checking.
It struck me that they only played songs from their latest album at ATP, except for the encore, which were both "covers", Theme From Konono and that Hungarian folk song that Katrin sings (from Scrabbling at the Lock if I remember correctly?) Anyway, no songs that GW Sok wrote the lyrics to. I wonder if that was a conscious decision. |
they did play state of shock in EKKO, Utrecht and the Brass Unbound Tour, before the album came out, but after that only new stuff.
also, when they played with Mekuria, arnold sang sok's lyrics. the band is brilliant at the moment. |

Yes, it was really great. I think it was exactly the same set as ATP, but I liked last night better. Zea opened and I still don't like his music, but as a singer in The Ex he somehow doesn't bother me. Plus I do like the three-guitars/no-bass line-up they have now; keeps things interesting. They're in great form alright, although personally I still prefer their 90's-early 00's lineups. |
did chaton perform?
how many people were there? |
yes, first zea, then chaton, then the ex.
maybe 100-150 people or so, not that many. |

Thank you so much for taping and sharing! Glad you all had fun. Your positive comments about the gig make me think it will be a pleasant experience to listen to rappard's recording, and i'm very much looking forward to it. |
Ceremony tonight starts at 6 pm and should last 1-1.5 hours total. Who's going? Meet up in front of the Oude Luxor?
|
I'm going. duh.
Found some youtube videos of Monday's performance: this is a fairly long one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ur70x1Bwr2s and here are 4 shorter ones in higher quality http://www.youtube.com/user/casualfiend#p/u |
Schedule (thanks, Carlos):
17:40 doors 18:00 start of the ceremony 18:25 -18:45 Lee Pokkeherrie, do you still need the ticket I picked up for you? |
Didn't know you were getting one for me. You're not mixing me up with someone else by any chance?
I already got one. |

The performance itself was short (~20 min) but sweet. The ceremony itself was pretty tedious - marred by technical (sound of the movies shown crapped out halfway) and linguistic difficulties (think mumbling Mongolian film directors translated by non-professionals). Oh well, it was only a 5 minute walk from my work. ;-) |
20-minute video from Monday's performance is finished.
I'm trying to squeeze it into my free Vimeo account compression wise. |

Edit: done! |
Lee Ranaldo & Leah Singer Sight/Unseen - IFFR (20 min.)
video is now online - http://www.vimeo.com/19654147 |
thanks!
can't watch it form work, but i'll check it out tonight. |

thanks, i'm going to watch it soon. |
thanks Jef!
|
So glad there's both video and audio from this performance.
Thank you so much for sharing your work, guys! |

Awesome video, Jeff! I reckon it's probably not easy (or even possible?) to catch the whole thing with just one camera, and sometimes it was really dark, but I think it's really well-shot. Great job! ![]() I just noticed you filmed Borbetomagus in Den Haag as well. I can't remember seeing any cameras there, but I must've seen you there as well then. |

Friday's performance was a similar idea (suspended guitar) to Monday's performance, just with different visuals. It was nice, but luckily you did see the show at L/V so you didn't miss all that much. If you want, I have a crappy 5 minute video of Friday's event, but after watching Jef's work I don't think it's really worth posting. |

Thanks Pokkeherrie! It was indeed not easy shooting the whole thing. I do feel the 20-minute collage works well. Yeah I shot the Borbetomagus concert in The Hague. I was constantly shifting between left and right corner of the stage. I'm trying to work someting out with Jim Sauter at the moment for a real Borbetomagus treat. Hopefully I can give you more on that the coming months! |
