I gave up on punk completely around the time I first heard the Birthday Party.


I was listening to John Peel around this time (late '70's) but I don't remember him playing a lot of industrial stuff. But then again, it was never my kind of thing, so if he did play it I wouldn't have taken much notice.

He certainly played bands like Einsturzende Neubauten, Test Dept., Die Haut etc. a few years later. By that time I too had moved on from punk and loved it.

I was also listening at this time and have a similar recollection to you... something tells me he played stuff off 20 Jazz Funk Greats but I can't substantiate it...

nick cave was hot, they had a great band name, they were great musically, and they didn't last very long. all the makings of a good rock band.
