not at all, if you listen to other Keith albums enough (like First Come First Serve) then you'll see what I mean.

I tried to like it a few years back but found the beats were weak. They were repetitively boring and ultimately lacked base. Black Elvis was marginally better.

..anyway i don't wanna slag keith off, cos he's keith. I prefer to ignore...unless i'm pissed, so figure that one out.

the Dooom beats are fantastic. I don't know what you're hearing. Relisten to "No Chorus" at least.

Black Elvis definitely has some great beats too. Same year.

Anyone who could listen to 'Dr Dooom's In The Room' and complain that the album has no good beats is... well I just don't understand it at all.

It's been a good long time, and the hipsters have completely lost interest in Kool Keith while he's been putting out some great CDs under their upturned noses. We don't care what anyone says, we've heard no one in the meantime that's come along who's as brilliant, lightning sharp, right on the money and hilarious as this guy — especially on the CD the Lost Masters. It's supposed to be a collection of second rate tracks, but I don?t buy it. There are some sequels theme-wise to some of the stuff on Spankmaster and Sex Styles, but when has that not been the case? That's how genius works. And it works to the point of being almost scary here. Now, we're as sick as anyone of the "vulgar" words being overused incessantly in our hip-hop saturated world. And lame-ass toilet humor is really tired, but man, don't put this into any category like that. There's mania here that goes way beyond shock/schlock or any other such lame crutch —at the risk of over-analyzing the sublime nature of the lyrics, consider for instance this chorus:

New York City
We piss in it
We live in it
We die...
We all take shits in it

You could be forgiven for writing this off at first glance as dumb poo poo humour and not the post-apocalyptic Haiku that is actually is. But as Keith delivers this unironic mantra repeatedly, he strikes some obscure vein in the cultural feng shui perfectly enough to trigger us into some kind of vortex state where it just gets more and more incredible, funnier and funnier, and more real and "in the moment" than anything previously imaginable. I mean, is that even funny? Read it again.

Keith has an unparalleled ability to deliver this kind of stuff. He takes us to a higher mental octave — and shit, piss, fuck etc. are there in that octave, so don't kid yourself. It's just that no one knows how to get there, so how would we know? Suck it in and Keith show you the way. Man, we haven't laughed this hard since Neil Hamburger came through town.

Patton is a friend of "Neil Hamburger" and is also a big Kool Keith fan.

I think Lost Masters is so-so.

no. Far from it. I love Kool Keith. Waaaay more than a normal person. But in no way would I ever agree with that statement.

Coolest rapper? Most insane rapper? Swaggest rapper?

I'd say spaciest rapper. Or Most Self-Assured rapper. Maybe MAYBE most interest rapper. Craziest rapper. Uniquest rapper.

First Come First Served is a fucking masterpiece. It is BY FAR the best thing Keith has ever done. I have a handful of MUST OWN albums by him. But FCFS is un-fuckking-believable

I like First Come First Served a lot but I don't think it's the classic some of you are making it out to be. As far as Kool Keith goes, I don't think he's made any classic albums but he's always consistent.

None of you will agree but this is my favourite Kool Keith album so far:

^yeah that's a really popular one. I like it a lot. My favorites are First Come and Undertakerz though.

I really like Spankmaster because of Yes Yes Y'all with Esham.

Although Keith has a great flow, and is obviously one of the more intelligent emcees out there - I really have to be in the mood for him, or else he can be off-putting. But I really like his voice, it's very unique, and Dr. Dooom rules!

Oh, and his verse on Esham's Tongues! Hell yeah Kool Keith.

Spankmaster has great production.

Dr. Dooom's First Come First Served it by far my fav.

Joe have you heard Thee Undatakerz? You'd love it. Kool Keith horrorcore. Brillaint record. My 2nd fav.

Will definitely check it out NR.

I did that earlier, I got 7/10. The ones i got wrong were when i thought it was Joyce rather than Keith. Considering i know nothing about the latter and like to think i know the style of the former i was relieved.

Not sure about that one, I'm sure they've meet and are familiar with each other. Dan "The Automator" Nakamura produced most of the Dr. Octagonecologyst album who is thick as thieves with Shadow, along with Kut Masta Kurt, along with the album being released on MO'Wax in the UK. Highly unlikely Shadow and Keith are strangers to each other.
