How many times have you seen these guys live? Me only once, in 2006, but it was worth it.

What're the Mission doing on that metal tribute? Not a thing metal about 'em unless they've changed their sound in recent years...

GeneticKiss 02.28.2009 10:42 PM

Enjoy The Silence 4 times on one disc?

UNACCEPTABLE

This tribute CD = fail

The wife and I saw DM on their last tour. Houston was the secodn to last stop on the tour and they were raw and wonderful. That was when I first heard that song WRONG. It was good shit.
Then we went home and the wife found the video, which is a great video, and dark as all fuck.

BUt for real, that song, Wrong, is a seething jam. I turn that shit up LOUD.

Nefeli 10.31.2012 02:40 PM

yeah, i m gonna be there; first row.
last time it was the coldest shower one can get in a live performance; cancellation just right after few moments the sounds and visual had started.
we were traumatized beyond recognition, but the love is so deep to vanish.

i watched online the press conference. rather silly questions by everyone and with no variety or imagination, but the band was sweet and in good mood.

I once owned the band's 86>98 singles compilation album. It was good.

evollove 03.18.2013 01:11 PM

Everytime I read the words "Depeche Mode," I get the chorus to "Just Can't Get Enough" stuck in my head for days. I don't even really remember the rest of the song, just that line, over and over.

evollove 04.20.2013 12:24 PM

I just gave Best of a spin.

I forgot about "Everything Counts." Is that generally regarded as one of their best songs? I'd think it would be just about anybody's best song.

back in the day I owned their first album and liked it a lot, the one with New Life - it was considered new wave - along with bands like Human League, Heaven 17, etc...plus I could play this stuff to girls and they wouldn't run screaming, like they might with Killing Joke or PiL or other cotemporaneous faves...I feel like I've posted this before...sorry if so

_slavo_ 06.05.2013 07:05 PM

I went to their concert some 2 weeks ago here in Bratislava.

It sucked VERY hard.

I'm very sorry to say, these guys are too old and tired already. They just don't have it in themselves anymore. And the old classics they played (Black Celebration, Never Let me Down Again, Policy of Truth) seemed like a parody of themselves, like a karaoke-gone-wrong kind of thing. A ruin of one childish dream, that moment when your parents tell you there is no Santa Claus who brings presents for Christmas.

Nefeli 06.06.2013 03:16 AM

oh thats sad.
i enjoyed the live i saw..
and i liked the fact that martin hasnt done any face lift or botox.
(not that i am against those things).

Bytor Peltor 06.06.2013 07:03 AM

I saw them for the 5th time on their last tour and felt like they hadn't lost a thing. I will be seeing them again in September.

Rob Instigator 06.06.2013 08:07 AM

Last tour was awesome show in Houston. That suck that they did not bring the heat slavo

Depeche Mode played Austin back in March at SXSW: http://youtu.be/J18CJYHH55U (50 minutes long)

Nefeli 06.07.2013 01:59 AM

didnt you just love the clip with the dogs they had during 'precious'?
i love their aesthetics and how they always have women in their clips, who arent traditionally beautiful.
dunno who was responsible for this tour videos. Timothy Saccenti?

I saw the Delta Machine tour two nights ago.

Black Celebration and Martin doing a piano version of, But Not Tonight are now two of my all time favorite live DM moments.

However, I must agree the show did lack a little something. "Gimmicky" is a word that comes to mind.

Other than the new songs, the set list was all over the place and there really wasn't a flow to the show.

Happy to have seen this tour, but not near as good as seeing them some two years ago!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 09.20.2013 04:16 PM

Fuck depeche mode. Dudes suck. There I said it.

My buddy @soundawakeradio is spinning a, 'Some Great Reward' 30th Anniversary special at 2pm CST on KPFT

evollove 10.08.2014 07:14 PM

Strange confession: Now and then, upon no discernible pretext, I wake up with the pop masterpiece "Everything Counts in Large Amounts" in my head, and usually thereafter I think of Bytor Peltor's enthusiasm for DM.

Bytor Peltor 10.08.2014 09:00 PM

^^truth be told, I've been remembered for far worse things, so I'll gladly be connected to a group such as DM......but dang you, now I have that song stuck in my head

Bytor Peltor 10.03.2019 07:09 AM

I just finished watching, Depeche Mode Fandom......now available for streaming.

It’s infectious how this band has touched so many around the world......all of this footage is before social media and the internet!

I lost all of my DM in the flood. Guessing I had around thirty 12” remixes, many containing instrumentals and B-sides that don’t appear on the albums.

Anyone here still listening to them?

I wish Netflix would offer the Live 101 Concert Film

DJ Rick always had the best stories......anyone knows what he’s up to?

Revisiting the 80s stuff now, and discounting A Broken Frame as an album too trifling (aside from its beautiful cover art), it seems that Black Celebration has not aged as well as I thought it would. The title track, "Stripped", and "Fly on the Windscreen" still sound good to me, but much of the rest is just embarrassing. I used to think that was the best DM album. Now I'm of the mind that Construction Time Again, Some Great Reward, and Music for the Masses are the essentials.

Everything from Ultra and thereafter was just rubbish...sorry! I'll give this new one a listen-to, though.

Also, as a record, 101 is terrible. As a movie, it's pretty fun. And I was actually there at the Rose Bowl show! I was about 100 rows back surrounded by screaming girls. My older cousins took me along, figuring I'd be so stoked. But just a few weeks before, I had seen my very first live show....a backyard pool-party event with Savage Republic which was so sublime and incredible. I was really excited that Wire opened the Rose Bowl show, but no one seemed to care. It didn't matter that Wire were only playing songs from their last two (pretty bad) albums and nothing from the great first three albums...I was still bummed that no one seemed to show any respect. This may have contributed as much as anything to my Northern California supremacist attitude about Angelenos.

It's funny how I never actually paid attention to their lyrics when I used to be a fan of theirs - might be because of the fact that I didn't understand any English back in those days, so I thought they were singing about something very deep and mysterious.

But then I started understanding the lyrical content and felt so embarrassed that most of the lyrics is just super-laughable rhyming like: 'come on and lay with me, come on and lie to me, tell me you love me ...'
like, come on.

Depeche Mode: The Podcast

I just recently learned of this podcast that has been around since June 2019. The host, a morning radio DJ is a bit annoying, but several say it gets better. I’m determined to listen to the first five episodes before resorting to cherry picking, but I might not make it.

In the first episode, the host mentions he has seen DM 32 times.

Had no clue that was happening -LIVE RIGHT NOW- in Houston......streaming to my TV

While the “Houston” link above won’t take you to Wednesday nights DM party, it will take you -LIVE- to DJWesWallace apartment where he is spinning dance tunes: The Cult, Cure, Front 242, Propaganda, Severed Heads and so on.

......it’s worth your time this Friday night!!!
