I also hate Hare Krsna on Zen Arcade.
I always thought Nothing Much To Lose would be a better starting track than Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside) but that's also because I hate Soft As Snow (But Warm Inside) as previously mentioned. |

She does tend to have a few awful songs every now and then... But we love her anyway. "High Five (Rock The Catskills)" on Odelay... Never really thought it was all that good compared with the rest of the album... "Half" on soundgarden's superunknown... |
On Odelay i'd say Readymade. It's crackly with earphones.
|
My Brightest Diamond - Freak out (on Bring me the workhorse)
Blonde Redhead - In particular (on Melody of damaged lemons) Radiohead - The national anthem & In limbo (on Kid A), Pluk/pull revolving doors & Dollars and cents (on Amnesiac) Smashing Pumpkins - Jellybelly, Thirty-three, Tales of a scorched earth (on Mellon Collie) PJ Harvey - Good fortune (on Stories from the city Stories from the sea) The Beatles - Maxwell's Silver Hammer & Octopus's garden (Abbey road), Ob-la-di Ob-la-da & Don't pass me by (on the White album) The Cure - Primary & Doubt (on Faith) |

I quite like Readymade. Its kind of awkward in a good way... Isn't it supposed to be crackly? Beck tends to put these kind of old vinyl sounding effects on some tracks... Of course, you are entitled to your opinion ;) |

i love total trash. one of my top songs on DDN.
even though i like to play it i have never been much of a fan of jesus and tequila on the minutemen's DNOTD and i like the last 13 songs off pop tatari better than the first three... and i would wish that eye would make less noise in between tracks, i love what he does, but all the pause between tracks really throws off the flow of the whole album |
weird that you don't like song 3 on pop tatari. that's when the album starts getting great! the first song on that album made my dog bark.

Isolation by Joy Division (the production Values don't fit at all with anything else on the album)
|
Quote:
and i cant beleive two people have already said isolation. thats one of my favorites. its a classic |
Negativland - "Car Bomb" on Escape From Noise, which was otherwise quite a revelation for me when it came out.
|
Yeah.. Isolation is probably the best song on that album, and if you didn't notice, ALL the songs are produced differently... I remember in a Joy Division fan webpage (maybe even a faq), hundreds of Joy Division fans were polled, and that was the second-highest-rated Joy Divison song ever (next to Love Will Tear Us Apart). Hmph.
|
Quote:
Love will tear us apart is far from the best Joy Division song. |
It's Oh So Quiet from Post.
|
mbv's no more sorry off isn't anything... its just bloody annoying.
sy's hotwire my heart off sister (its an okay cover but it just doesnt fit with the album) and also tunic off goo... ann off the stooges first album |
The Model on Songs About Fucking
|
I regard Tago Mago as an absolute masterpiece, but I'm not too keen on Augmn. Can't say I "hate" it, though.
Oh, and All we ever wish on Time of Orchid's Sarcast while |
Well, I didn't say love will tear us apart is one of the best joy divison songs. I just find it funny that all the really big Joy Division fans -- big enough to post on an internet poll about their favorite song -- rate Isolation really high. It's funny. Also, the Model is amazing (as is all of songs about fucking; and really, that's one of the best covers ever). Also, why so much isn't anything hate? That record is so unbelievably perfect from beginning to end. Jesus!

I know, I'm just surprised that fans may pick it as their fave (have they never heard Atmosphere, Shadowplay, 24 hours, New dawn fades, and so on... ?). |
true.
new dawn fades is, in my mind, the king of joy division songs . |
Why are so many people saying Tunic?
|
Yeah, I love Tunic.
she said... you aren't never going anywhere |
hmm.. tunic's alright.. a bit silly.. there's certainly worse on goo than that song..
|
Tunic rules. There are a lot of songs in this topic I really like. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
|
Perhaps some feel that it is a bit of a let down from the awesome Dirty Boots.
|
I think the most famous is "within you without you" on sergent pepper's..
|
Im just giving Crooked Rain Crooked Rain a listen, and i remembered how i actively skip "Unfair", its not that its a bad song, it just dont fit.
|
and "hit the plane down" on this album has an unpleasant sound
|
Quote:
I wouldnt put the album on specifically to listen to it, but i think it works well when i play the album in sequence. Unlike Unfair, which works well in isolation but messes things up over the 40 odd minutes. Just been reading the thread, i dont think theres a weak track on Isnt Anything, but there are several on Loveless. Having said that, i booked my ticket for the Roundhouse in June today :) |
I find a lot of Sonic Youth's bad songs quite endearing; though there's no doubt that, say, Washing Machine would be better without Panty Lies, I don't skip it.
Public Enemy have a similar knack for bad songs which are strangely acceptable, and they're usually Flavor Flav's, i.e., Cold Lampin' With Flavor on It Takes A Nation... I don't like Pollywannacracka on Fear... at all though. I hate Tony's Theme on Surfer Rosa. Within You, Without You is my favourite song on Sergeant Pepper's. On the subject of The Beatles, I don't like any of Ringo Star's songs... an obvious one but they're not fun, quirky or anything other than rubbish. |
Marylin Moore on EVOL. My least favourite SY song on my favourite SY album.
|
sonic youth - total trash. that song is the epitome of shit as far as i'm concerned, thurston sounds like one of those really whiny homosexuals to me on it. i put DDN on my ipod and that's the only song i leave off. i thank god they've never played that song live when i've seen them.
|
Total Trash was pretty good live. It's third in my top three favorite songs off of DDN (The Wonder and Teenage Riot being one and two).
|
Hot Wire My Heart on Sister.

"across the universe" on bowie's young americans sticks out. much as i love bowie...what a horrible cover it is. smells like teen spirit. god damn do i hate that song. "friction" on marquee moon as for sonic youth: the biggest offender would have to be youth against fascism. THAT song is the epitome of total shit. |
It's the song I hate, it's the song I hate... Man, I LOVE Youth against Facism. I used to have a Hate Bush segment on my radio show, and that was a staple.

I agree that it may be the weakest track on Marquee Moon, but the guitar playing on it saves the song for me (the tremolo picking going up the neck especially). |

I've always thought The national anthem is a bad Can rip-off (and I won't change my mind ;)). |
Never listened to Can so i'm happy :)
