he is right. i know these are obscure acts, but they shouldn't be. i think their music is the best thing music wise of 2008.

check out buckets of bile too. she's from brooklyn and her stuff is really great too. even though she gave me a tape and it turned out to be a talking heads/clash mix tape.

zola jesus interview in vice. horrible interviewer. i think vice could be one of the worst magazines ever too.

I find it amazing that such primitive equipment produces fantastic music like this. The second part of the US Girls video especially left me thinking ''WOW!''.

I love it.

Marras, how much have the U.S. Girls already put out? All I came across was the "Cassingle #2". Which, curiously enough, gives me a hint that there should be a "Cassingle #1" out there somewhere, too.

_slavo_ 01.18.2009 07:27 AM

Grouper most likely doesn't qualify as a part of this girlie lo-fi movement, however I've found this footage of a song I hadn't heard before and it moves me a lot.

Thanks, that's amazing footage

Everyneurotic 01.18.2009 01:52 PM

zola jesus are ace ace ace.

u.s. girls, their introducing...gets boring after a few listens.

grouper are otherwordly, just incredibly touching and fulfilling...yes, they get me going poetically like that.

I don't think there is a first cassette, not sure. I have the same cassette you have, plus the LP, and the CDR Chocolate Monk put out. None of them bored me as much as they bored Everyneurotic though. And thanks for that video, it's really good.

I stumbled upon this while searching everything grouper related lately.
2 questions:
is dragging a dead dear up the hill worth the money?
i she really that beautiful as I imagine her to be?

heavy water / I`d rather be sleeping is still one of the most beautiful songs ive heard in ages

yes.

and i agree, it's one of my favorite songs of last year.

al shabbray 01.18.2009 02:29 PM

okay. then this will be bought in a few minutes, cause amazon says just one copy available.
btw I answered myself the second question, the answer is: yes, too

sarramkrop 01.18.2009 02:36 PM

I don't like that song much because her vocals remind me of Tori Amos or something. The song itself is alright, it's just the vocals that are 'meh'.

Toilet & Bowels 01.18.2009 04:13 PM

grouper girl is very good looking, yes.

EP & CDr & LP & ETC Update
friends--

my first lp is already finished! it was an enduring process, but i am absolutely confident that you're all going to love it. it is certainly going to reflect a new direction. keep it moving through purgatory.

the trip is called "the spoils" and will be released on the blessed sacred bones record label. i will release a song from the album exactly two weeks after the official release of the "tsar bomba" ep.... which should be soon? it is in the current state of being born to wax; so the datebooks should be marked for early february.

the cdr "new amsterdam" should be released within weeks also (on sacred bones!!!) it will include my wnyu session as well as some unreleased songs... including an old cover of "the lady in the radiator". the majority of the unreleased songs were recorded when i was very young. jailbait blues, is what it is.

and as for the etc... i have also been busy working on my first opera. but that's all i can speak of it right now!

i love you all and feel this shit in my veins.

warmth,

I hope U.S. Girls is not going to be cancelled because of the snow today, or I'll be really pissed off.

pokkeherrie 02.02.2009 06:12 AM

I hope for you that she managed to buy a new tape machine, because it was broken last Thursday.

Toilet & Bowels 02.02.2009 09:13 AM

i doubt i'm going to be able to make it because of the snow, hopefully she'll come back soon

sarramkrop 02.03.2009 03:50 AM

The gig was ok but it felt too rushed. The sound wasn't great either, possibly because the man who was-self indulgingly putting records on for way too long thought that his taste in music was what people go to gigs for. Anyway, we crossed eyes outside while I was smoking a cigarette and chatted briefly before she played. Sweet girl.

Toilet & Bowels 02.03.2009 04:12 AM

i wasn't sure how well she'd come across live but i thought she was excellent

sarramkrop 02.03.2009 04:20 AM

I wish she had played for longer and the chemical brothers only for 3 minutes.

Zola Jesus sounds like Coldplay. Grouper sounds like Tori Amos.

You have an overactive imagination.

No, it's just that you can fuck off, I think? I said one song reminded me of Coldplay. Plus that Grouper song is cheesy as fuck.
