Crazy how he can rap quickly though, amirite

IDK, I don't listen to him* (I only found out thanks to Spotify telling me my 'friends' were listening to it). Just figured it as fairly big news, especially since surprise releases are fun.

*Except for 'The Real Slim Shady', which is so cartoonish and absurd that it's hilarious.

When I was in (get this) *high school* and Eminem came onto the scene, he was a breath of fresh air and a novelty you really couldn’t look away from.

I feel like he stayed interesting for literally one album. He brought a little bit of it back for the third album, I guess, but as soon as shit like Not Afraid and those horrible classic rock sampling tracks from the 8-Mile soundtrack came out, Jesus — man was insufferably self-serious almost as a rule, and all that fun novelty was lost.

I swear, that video where he’s falling off the building for the entirety of it? That is the Creed of rap music. Like holy shit, the lugubriousness!

What?! I should have known this! Gonna have to re-check my Bandcamp FACS subscription! Dammit! But bitchen news! :D

So the "first single" is called "Teenage Hive", just when Wire releases Mind Hive... I'm thinking they'll never live down the post-punk tag (post-post-punk? neo-post-punk?), even though, fortunately, they're so much more.

Nice.

Severian 03.05.2020 08:36 AM

There’s a new Vladislav record.
New Caribou, too.
New Arca — though it’s just a “single” — is 60 minutes or something so it can be an album for these purposes, whatever. It’s great

Even though the new album is being released by Troubled In Mind Records, which also put out their other two LPs, and therefore there shouldn't be the conflict you see with many artists who end up having at least more than one Bandcamp page, so far -two weeks away from release date, basically- Void Moments only shows up on the label's site, not FACS':

https://troubleinmindrecords.bandcam...m/void-moments

https://wearefacs.bandcamp.com/

Move that product, people!

Nine Inch Nails just surprise released a new album, Ghosts V-VI. It's on their website for free if you want, I'll report back on it later.

SonicSleuth 03.26.2020 08:39 PM

Deerhoof - Future Teenage Cave Artists
Coriky - Coriky
Protomartyr - Ultimate Success Today

choc e-Claire 03.27.2020 01:20 AM

New NIN is okay, nothing super special. Could probably have been helped by being cut back a little, but then again so could the first four volumes of Ghosts...

In other new albums from today, Ringo Deathstarr came out with a self-titled effort. The first two songs aren't great, but it gets better from there; very diverse with beautiful vocals.

Quote:

To mark this year’s 88th day and as an acknowledgement to these unprecedented circumstances we find ourselves in, Piano Day founder, pianist and producer Nils Frahm releases a collection of eight solo piano pieces titled Empty out now.

Conceived of just before Nils broke his thumb and composed the similarly intimate solo piano album Screws, Empty is a soothing vessel of eight simple and serene pieces originally recorded as the music to a short art film he shot with his friend and film director Benoit Toulemonde. Drifting through emotions from the stark and sobering opener First Defeat, to the gently euphoric No Step On Wing and the contemplative but hopeful closer Black Notes, with its poignant minute of silence, Empty is a comforting score for these turbulent times.

“When I came back from the hospital with a broken thumb and listened to the recordings, I felt they were unfinished. I decided to put them aside and started to work on my small album, Screws.

Many many other notes of the piano have been struck since these days, and before we all forget about this, I thought it would be a good moment to share these lullabies with you. I hope they help you stay all strong and calm in these days of solitude – despite the hardship, we can discover introspection and reflection unexpectedly. Who knows what it is good for.

Much love, Nils”

About Piano Day:

“Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener.” – Nils Frahm

Piano Day is an annual event conceived of five years ago by the composer, producer and pianist Nils Frahm. It takes place on the 88th day of the year on March 28, 2020 – the number of keys on the piano. Over the past five years Piano Day has grown into a global phenomenon, celebrated in countries all over the world by artists and audiences alike.

The desire to celebrate this versatile instrument is growing greater than ever with more than 100 piano-related events planned this year around the world. But due to the current situation with regard to the coronavirus pandemic, Piano Day encourages all the piano lovers, organisers and promoters to cancel their events to put everyone’s health and safety first.

A list of all originally planned Piano Day events is available on the official site. As this is changing day-to-day, please check each event you are interested in to see if it is cancelled, postponed or shared via livestream.

The new Nicolas Jaar album, Cenizas, is a twisting, turning abstract affair and interesting counterpoint to the hard-hitting Against All Logic album he released earlier this year.

Guy’s occupying an interesting and special place in modern music.

Zoomers are even into him on Twitter and Instagram and shit.

The Against All Logic album is better, though.

Yeah, the new Yves Tumor is pretty good. Not as good as Safe in the Hands of Love from 2018, but still pretty damn solid.

Major Bummer! The launch of the mothership has been postponed to June (and it's not yet on their bandcamp). It can already be preordered from their label unday records

Gizz gets no love in "my" Gizz thread, so I thought that I would talk about them here, he said, expecting the same response.

I'm excited about the new live album (with three "other" tracks) and concert film THIS month!! Gizz gonna help me get through this fuckedupdedness.

Edit: Chunky Shrapnel, it is called.

Red Summer by ONO finally arrived at my home today, really glad I got the deluxe edition with the Epistle booklet. It's going to be hard for anything to top this 4 best of the year but it is only April. I think this is going to hold its place though. Easily one of the most truly unique groups to ever exist and this is a strong showing in a body of work with a very high standard to begin with. Highest recommendation.

TRUE STORY: When I was in third or fourth year at college, I was running out of time to finish two papers, one for communication sociology and the other for semiotics. I had less than two hours to finish both and I went, fuck this, it's impossible to write them both seriously. So I prioritized the first one (teacher was a hardass) and in the time I had left (fifteen minutes, maybe) I made up whatever junk I could come up with for the semiotics class, which was a COMPLETE JOKE taught by a schizophrenic (seriously, he was once institutionalized after yelling at the dean for not enlisting him in the CIA). Anyway, among all the "semiotic" crap I typed, I wrote, "

Got an A. True story.

Daniel Avery and Alessandro Cortini have a collaborative album out (well, a month ago), very nice ambient/noise/drone record. Might be better if you don't listen to it on shuffle first time around like I did...
