i'm not sure, and the book it comes with is indeed perhaps better than the recordings themselves.. it took me years to fully appreciate what that box set had, because of my expectations of what it should have or could have had.. ![]() |

I wish Steve Albini recorded everybody's songs.. |
I donīt know am I right, but isnīt Steve Albini one of those producers who always makes almost same sounds whatever the band is? I think that production style is very boring.

Well, he definitely has his own style which he tends to apply whenever one asks him to record/produce an album. It works for some bands, other bands should have perhaps looked elsewhere (Stooges). He's a bit old school, that's for sure. I dig 'em. He's great at what he does. Nothing wrong with sticking to a set method if it happens to be what one is good at. This goes for anything. That said, he's also good at sitting back and letting the band man the controls if that's what they opt to do. He's willing to experiment, which says a lot. He doesn't feel as if he has to though, which says even more. Dude's worked with/recorded/produced some kick ass bands/records. Yeah, I like Albini. |

I agree. It is very appreciatable that man is not trying to be what he isnīt. He isnīt still my favourite producer, Iīm very glad that PJ changed producer when she made To Bring you my love. But when I watched the list Albini has produced, these are very great albums and I think Albini has also something to do with their greatness: Pixies: Surfer Rosa Jon Spencer Blues Explosion: Same Pj Harvey: Rid Of me Nirvana: In Utero |

and someone else. but i dont know, earlier recordings sound just as good (my body, the hand grenade) and there's this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbfHrjBAuFA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F98QsSLhc0 |

I think Albini is probably the best producer around. He makes pretty much anything sound raw, powerful and amazing. None of the albums you mentioned would be that great without him. |
Steve Albini has produced some of the worst albums I have ever heard. I just wanted to say that.

if you are talking about scout nibblet i don't think that's his fault. |
No I am not talking about Scout Nibblet. But she's definitely on the list now.

i wish steve albini did none of their songs, jack endino is way better nirvana production wise, and while i think butch vig gave them too much of a studio sound he did provide them with a unique sound for that record that was kinda cool
albini has good stuff but there are alot of records i think would be better produced by anyone the aforementioned "rid of me" would be a good example |
Quote:
eh? rid of me is amazing and in untero is clearly nirvana's best |
I agree about In Utero; I don't really understand the Bleach love around here at all.

the best sounding track on rid of is the mansize version that isn't produced by steve and i mean he says they fucked with the mix on in utero so i don't know who to blame but the bass sounds awful and it was always one of the best parts of nirvana i don't mean to insult him because he's done some good stuff, but it's happened a few times that he's worked with people i like and the record has turned out sounding crappier than any of their other work, pj and nirvana are good examples |
