I have no qualms with any word, I think of all words as equal in the English language of course. But this word is grossly misused by idiots who want to shoot down an artist's work if it's vaguely experimental.

Oh, everywhere I've seen that's written about that video has said it's "directed by Johnny Depp before his fame" but you're probably right, I'm not too knowledgable of him anyway.

EDIT: Oh, he was the jock in A Nightmare on Elm Street. Fuck hahaha.

You've probably seen these if you've looked around but more people should see them anyway.

i don't have a problem with the word or its overuse. it's just that when someone labels something "pretentious" the critique usually stops there. that irks me more than the word itself.

It's only really used by people who dread opinionated people and don't have any manner of defence against them because they prefer not being challenged. Give me a person who has strong views about something, regardless of mutual agreement, over an apathetic waste of space any time.

Johnny Depp has been famous since he grew a pube.

John Frusciante is further proof that Captain Beefheart inspired all the best musicians ever. He shot up, painted, and listened to Beefheart every day for 12 hours a day for a year. Sounds awesome.

I listened to an interview where he said he obsessively watched Blue Velvet and Eraserhead as a teenager (while he wasn't jerking off or playing guitar).

He changed his mind on Nirvana in later years though, covering 'Lounge Act' in some live shows.
