I changed my answer. I think all movies should be remade. And then they should remake the remakes, too. I mean, why not? The original film will still exist.

Lars Von Trier was rumored to have challenged Scorsese to re-make "Taxi Driver" as a collab between the two directors. My initial reaction was, "Fuck that!", but after pondering, it would actually have potential to be really fucking cool. Jeremy Renner as Travis Bickle, I could totally see that working. And damn, maybe working with Lars would get Scorsese to start making fucked up movies again.

That'd be such a bizarre mix. I'd dig it!

And yeah, Scorsese... Shutter Island... Shitter Shitland.. horrible film.

I am not sayinga remake cannot be as good as the original, but that is rare. I am sure there are remakes better than the original but probably because the "original" was made in the 30's or 40's.

I'm surprised they haven't tried to remake Rocky yet, or Dirty Harry. They already tried to remake the Godfather I & II by making III. Million Dollar Baby is off limits and Casablanca

I'd say Cape Fear is a pretty controversial choice.

I love this notion. I hate the idea that whatever becomes released will obtain centre stage and have a hand at forming mainstream consciousness and changing the way that people view whatever the original filmmaker had in mind, but there is always room for people to dig a little deeper and investigate what is before them. Sometimes when I watch absolute shit that was "inspired by" who anyone would call classic, that is when I can truly define what it is that the hack is trying to accomplish. It's apart of history. It has a part.
Besides, some of the most awesome creations come from unexpected fuckups. I wish I had some examples, but I'm pretty bad at that sort of thing.
