Try Dilate, Lapsed or Amanita. Three of my favorite LPs ever. Bardo Pond will send your wariness out the window. |
check out the link in the terrastock 6 thread that goes to all the live recordings, paik's set is killer. i'm having a hard time thinking of groups i really want to hear but haven't got round to, what with bands putting mp3s on their websites, and slsk etc everything is so easily available to cursory inspection.
i guess here is a list of stuff, it's mostly japanese as the japs don't seem to have embraced the mp3 the in quite the same way whitey has. Shizuka go hirano astro the stars (japanese the stars, not the other one) jacks government alpha cccc aube DAF front 242 test dept controlled bleeding mountain pissed jeans here are groups who i've heard bits and bobs by but have yet to properly investigate, but have been meaning to for ages: coil nurse with wound throbbing gristle james blood ulmer pel mell saccherine trust slovenly Universal Congress Of Tar Babies Meat Puppets discharge crass conflict Blind Idiot God live skull smegma actually, that's quite a bit of stuff! |
And yeah, I've been thinking of checking out Nurse With Wound. How good are they?
|
Front 242 are pretty standard issue industrial death disco, and have not changed their sound at all since the mid 80s.
I do actually like a couple of their songs, but for nostalgic reasons. Demon Box: NWW are a longtime obsession of mine. VERY rewarding and very weird. Their albums vary wildly in sound and style though, so if you don't like one, try again. |

these are all awesome bands (with the exception of Roy Montgomery, who i don't know and can't tell therefore), but i think it's not too hard to get a few mp3 by them, if that is, what you want. If you don't have soulseek, you can try archive.org for some bardo pond lives. |

Cool. What album do you think I should start with? |

Yeah, Paik's terrastock performance indeed sounded great and is the only thing I've heard by them.
Throbbing Gristle escaped my mind, I should've mentioned them. What's Live Skull like? I saw one of their LPs in a record store but didn't buy it. Also, ashamed to admit, but I'm really new to Glenn Branca's music and been meaning to buy ascension or one of his symphonies. |
Thank you mr. Clone;)

another one to add to the list:

The Meat Puppets

Husker Du are great, check out 'Warehouse: songs and stories', its great value for money as there's 20 songs on that album, i dont like them as much as Sugar though. if you don't have anything by sugar either then get 'File under easy listening' thats fantastic! im actually going to see Bob Mould this month, hopefully he might play something from that era of his life. |
Good topic. Some of these are artists I'm curious about, whilst others cause me to scratch my head as to why I haven't bought an album by them yet. -Les Rallizes Denudes
-High Rise -The Shadow Ring -Nurse with Wound (A common item here) -Borbetogamus -Peter Brotzman -Vibracathedral Orchestra -Omit -Ash Ra Temple -Fushitsusha -Ash Ra Temple -Sandoz Lab Technicians -This Heat -Amon Duul II |

You should definetly check them out they're fantastic. |
Demonbox, Polvo are totally worth your time. I have my own favorites, but the general concensus is that everything bar their final album "Shapes" is worth hearing. Also, I would be a huge fan of LOOP if I could get any of their albums.

I have been meaning to investigate Sandoz Lab Technicians further. I have one record by them and it's OK but nothing special. I get the impression that their other stuff is better. I have also been meaning to buy some Shadow Ring. I have some stuff downloaded (half of lighthouse and some other stuff) and it has been what I have been listening to most lately. They are next on my shopping list in my mind I think. I want to get some more stuff by Magic is Kuntmaster. I have one track one a Sonic Protest compilation and it's great. Can't seem to find anywhere that carries any Magic.. cds though. Also, there's a Panicsville track on the same comp and I want some of their stuff too. |

At the risk of coming across like a prick*, I can tell you now: The Jacks are shite and you WILL be disappointed, especially if you're thinking Haino/ Denudes/ High Rise/ AMT, because they really are like the first Beatles album... it's genuinely very shit. Aube is secondary to Merzbow... he's alright, but not really worth worrying about majorly. DAF are well worth it, but take care to get the earlier stuff. They kind of dwindled after 2 or 3 albums. Front 242/ Controlled Bleeding aren't really that important, if you're into Coil, TG, Whitehouse, NWW, you needn't bother with them. I would say the same about Death in June. CCCC are just shit. Go for the incapicitants or Masonna. Live Skull/ Smegma I never got, but you may. I too should own more Coil, and my first investment if I ever get a job will be the TG24 set (I have nearly everything else apart from one of the recent live things and some unimportant boots/ compilations). I can't stand Crass. They alright, my brother has a load of their albums, but I don't feel any great need to relieve him of them (unlike anything else that's good in his collection...). Sermon over. *Yeah, seriously, like I care... |
