All good music to dancedancedancedancedancedancedancedancedance to.
and I would also suggest Devendra Banhart, his husky voice always gets me through those tough times.

Oh hell YES, I was exactly about to say this.

This album has been making my days recently.

I would also throw in LCD Soundsystem's first album and "Myth Takes" by !!! into the batch. Or Cocteau Twins. Yes, Cocteau Twins!

SonicBebs 03.13.2008 06:25 AM

Curtis Mayfield is a good one, as is Broken Social Scene

Rob Instigator 03.13.2008 09:30 AM

Curtis Mayfield's MOVE ON UP

Just sit and listen to the percussion, the conga, the timbales, fuck! they never stop!

Django and Grapelli for me, yes. Django solo is great, but with Grapelli is easily one of my favourite duo things of ever.

SuperCreep 03.13.2008 04:39 PM

The Kinks and Ween always put me in a good mood.

i want the rest of the box set. i'll look for it on my next excursion to the record store.

The first Cramps album always cheers me up, in a sleazy, trashy, cretinous kind of way. Ditto the first Action Swingers album.

If all else fails though, a Blondie best of simply can't fail. Heart of Glass and Union City Blues are like sonic prozac; to my ears, at least.

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs. Winter's Love is such a happy song.

It's hard to do this. What I often think cheers me up, other people find depressing. It's so subjective.

That said, I know how you feel. My worst days are when I've been out and about and realize how ignorant and backward this hick town is where I'm forced to live, and I search and search in my collection for something that feels "cleansing" and "uplifting" and even escapist--something that reassures me I'm not really like all of "them" out there.
