New Wye Oak single, out September 22. Already pre-ordered mine! Fuck you!

From http://www.mergerecords.com/spiral-b...-not-the-water :

Quote:

On September 22, Merge will release Wye Oak's "Spiral" b/w "Wave Is Not the Water", a limited-edition rarities 7-inch on red vinyl. Both songs were originally released in partnership with Adult Swim.

Jenn and Andy of Wye Oak told us a little about each track:

"Spiral" popped up around 2012, at a time before we began work on Shriek. We were just starting to experiment with synthetic and more pop-oriented sounds, and also got assistance on the marimba from our friend Rod Hamilton, with whom Jenn was sharing a loft at the Copycat in Baltimore at the time.

"Wave Is Not the Water" was created in the early months of 2017, without either of us ever setting foot in the same space. Andy was touring as the drummer for Lambchop and volleying the recording back and forth with Jenn via email, as seems to be the current state of things.

New Wilco song, available from their Bandcamp page:

Proceeds will go to the Southern Poverty Law Center, in the memory of Jeff Tweedy's father, Robert L. Tweedy (1933-2017).

"My dad was named after a Civil War general, and he voted for Barack Obama twice. He used to say 'If you know better, you can do better.' America - we know better. We can do better." - Jeff Tweedy

Soup, are you a Ryan Adams fan at all? I don't remember. You surely know Rawlings and Welch worked on Heartbreaker yeah?

New St. Vincent song, "New York":

I really like it. Slightly NSFW. Apparently you can get it from all the shit places that sell shit mp3s. Intercourse all that and instead try something like https://us.7digital.com/artist/st-vi...plicit-6560659 !

...and they did some sessions which have been bootlegged (I forget the boot's title at the moment), and Dave included a version of their co-written "To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High)" on A Friend Of A Friend... But no, I'm not a Ryan Adams fan. At all. In fact, I hope he gets ass cancer. The utter lack of a single original molecule of sound, the studied bad-boy poses... God-DAMN I loathe the fucker. His association with Gillian and Dave strikes me as another one in a long line of for-some-putrid-reason-talents-hang-with-hacks: Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, Iggy Pop and Slash, David Bowie and Trent Reznor, Lou Reed and Metallica. Jesus, this is getting depressing — you get my point. Sorry!

noisereductions 08.16.2017 10:12 PM

Oh. Well. Ok then. Nevermind.

For the record, even if in jest I don't think it's cool to wish illness on anyone.

But at least I know that we won't be bonding over this particular musician.

Screw that joker! We can bond over my latest non-musical Wilco purchase!

Pretty sweet, eh? When I met with Nels, John and Pat last year they couldn't believe I had the Wilco Unipo figurines, the Wilco 7" adaptor, the dBpm yo-yo (Nels: "The dBpm WHAT?")... It's their fault for making such cool merch, I say. :)

Severian 08.17.2017 10:48 AM

Bowie and NIN put on a hell of a show, were a great touring pair says I.

Trent Reznor is totally my Ryan Adams, I guess. :p

Severian 08.17.2017 10:56 AM

I like dem pencils. :D

New Wilco song stuck in head. I want them to write more overt protest music. Maybe not play it so subtle. Not that "ALL LIVES YOU SAY?" in bold, orange all-caps is subtle, but considering what they could be singing about, it kind of is.

You know how I've been kind of outspoken about overly politicized music in the past? Like RATM and the like? Phony asshole shit? Well, right now, I feel like it would be fucking amazing if more high-profile artists made more political protest songs about the fucking eighth level of hell in which we're currently residing. I don't care who... the bigger the better. Taylor Swift? Sure. Yes. Kanye? Yes, yes, yes, oh Fucking god please yes. Frank Ocean? Yes. Fucking Lady Gaga? I don't care. Bring the big name protests. Pile them on. We didn't need a cash cow rap metal band to protest... stuff... in 1996. We need EVERYONE protesting what's happening in the world TODAY. Fuck, make an Anti-Trump/Duke/"Unite the Right" compilation and put fucking DRAKE on that shit and I'd be all in. I'd be all for it. I'd gain some grudging respect for Drake.

:(

Australian alt rock legends Something For Kate are on tour and have shown photos on social media of recording a new album. One of my all time favorite bands, very excited

(P.S. I learned what "dab" meant like two weeks ago and I'm still in shock over how stupid shit is right now :) )

Funny you should say that, because (since you mooks won't, because you're mooks ;):D) I've been meaning to mention in this thread Juliana Hatfield's Pussycat, which came out in April.

With titles like "When You're A Star", "Short-Fingered Man" and "Kellyanne", as far as I know this is THE FUCK-YOU TRUMP album of the year so far. Not exactly "high profile", but the hacks you listed will never write songs this good.

Yeah. I know... but there's more serious shit to protest right now.

It's a good album though. Remind me not to forget it when list time comes.
