'Lectric Workers - Robot Is Systematic 12"
Wonderful Italo track from 1982. Check it! https://youtu.be/WEXZc3MWaP0 |
Autolux - Future Perfect - CD - 1 dollar used
|

Ha, not bad! :) Carla Azar is an amazing drummer (I'm more familiar with her from her work on Sam Phillips' Fan Dance and A Boot And A Shoe) but Autolux I've never been able to really dig — too derivative for these ears, maybe. |
Quote:
Not familiar with the albums that you mention; I'll have to check them out. Agree that they're derivative, but I couldn't pass on a 1-dolllar CD copy. Love how the album opens with Azar's drums, and her drumming in general. |
Polyvinyl Records sent me a coupon for 10 dollars. Already have all the Deerhoof they have to offer. So I ordered Xiu Xiu's Girl with Basket of Fruit on CD, which was 10 dollars, so basically free. I just had to pay 4 dollars shipping. Don't know this band, but they were recommended to me. Input on Xiu Xiu? Could stream their music, but going to wait for the CD.

Listened to one of their albums, can't remember which one. Think I was intrigued, but not enough to explore further. You should chat with d.sound, she's the one who recommended them to me. |

Thanks. Listened to it. Good, but have to be in the mood, perhaps a dark and despondent mood. Can't decide if great or weird for the sake of weirdness, not sure. Still digesting, but definitely intrigued. |
Unit (Regurgitator) and the PUSA self-titled.

Nobody is! I mean, some people are, it's not like she releases her music on 3" CDs that you have to buy from the back of a van down by the river; for the most part she's been on major labels and "only" during the last decade she's been DIY-ing it. But the woman makes one flawless album after another, she's got a distinctive style and voice, unforgettable melodies and heartbreaking lyrics, and yet you never see her records on those goddamn best-of-the-year lists, as far as I know she never gets invited to perform on late night talk shows, Christ on a stick what the living hell is wrong with people. The highest level of notoriety she's reached over the last twenty years is composing and performing the incidental music for Gilmore Girls and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and I don't know what size of those shows' audiences give a serious flying fuck about music. |
Going to Wash DC for a couple days. Hoping to go to some of the famed music stores. Will see what I get.
But recently, got: Lee Ranaldo Live at Rough Trade East LP Mission of Burma Peking Spring LP |

This performance kicks all kinds of ass (and the download code is hi-res :)). |
hah, is buying an album digitally frowned upon in this thread? Just wondering cause I bought myself a few things. Nothing too left of center, just stuff I've been meaning to get for some time.
|
Quote:
Of course not. These days just buying the freakin' things is something positive, all in all. Broke as hell as I am (I'm getting evicted from "my" apartment for fuck's sake), I try to buy them in the best format they're available, and sometimes their only availability is virtual/download (terms I prefer over "digital" in this context because CDs are of course digital as well — them ones and zeros and whatnot :)). If I'm not mistaken (hipster_bebop_junkie should correct me if I am), Low's cover of Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" never made it to physical or lossless, so I had to buy it from Amazon or iTunes or summat in m4a format. |
Quote:
I think I prefer this over the studio album. |
Well, in that case, I got some iTunes gift cards for my birthday, so went on a mini shopping spree.
Nada's- Luna In Piena. Nada is an Italian singer I've really gotten into lately. Oningo Boingo's Boingo album. I've always liked Oningo Boingo's singles I'd hear on the radio but its only recently that I've been buying their albums. Unkle-Psyence Fiction Album's just a classic. |
Quote:
Oingo Boingo, eh? You know, months ago I was checking out Wikipedia to find out what's been up with Bridget Fonda (when was the last time you saw her?) and it says she's a "former" actress now. Retired. So, being married to Danny Elfman, she's being oingoboingoing this whole time! ;):D |
Bill Callahan's Shepherd in a Sheepskin Vest - LP pre-order
|
Quote:
NOICE. Did you pre-order it after I posted about it or...? ;):D |
Vampire Weekend’s “Father of the Bride”
|
Quote:
Yes, in fact. Thank you for the notice, the first I had heard of his new album. |

For real? Sweet, man; some people say my torrent and best upcoming shit announcements are useless. Fuck 'em, SonicSleuth! ![]() |
Went to a second-hand shop and picked up a few albums and kitschy CD singles for a total of $7.
*Everybody Else is Doing It, So Why Can't We? (The Cranberries) *Super Furry Animals Songbook Vol 1 *'Imitation of Life' (R.E.M.) *'Polyester Girl' (Regurgitator) *'Tubthumping' (Chumbawamba) |

Six songs from his new album available for streaming now... |

Recently bought :
Mark Hollis - S/T Kate Bush - The kick inside Neil Young - Songs for Judy Ordered : Weyes Blood - Front row seat to Earth & Titanic rising |
Went to the local record store today and bought Björk's Debut (CD), Beside You in Time (Nine Inch Nails live DVD), and an old Green Day tour poster. (linked because it's a big image)

I am quite partial to that as much of the footage is from their show here in OKC. |
It's really impressive video work (2006!), even if I'm only watching on my laptop.
You know about the semi-official fanmade ones? Those are pretty impressive, and they've got longer sets. (I also like that a lot of NIN's live act features screaming and throwing things. They'll appeal to the inner four year old in everyone.) |
Originally I'd preordered the new Thom Yorke album, but I saw something better: AE_LIVE, a full 28 hours of live IDM from the masters that are Autechre - at better than an hour per dollar.
Also, New Adventures in Hi-Fi. |
Quote:
No, not familiar with the fanmade ones. I will have to go check those out. |

They're a free torrent, somewhere on the Internet. |
Last albums I bought:
- Sebadoh - Mono - The two Ex releases I mentioned on another thread - The Constellation pre-order Fall package that I won't be getting until it's Fall, and I wish it was Fall already because the summers are way too hot for me The last two albums that somebody else will buy for me, if they will do what I told them to do: - Bob Dylan: Rolling Thunder Revue: The 1975 Live Recordings box - CSNY 1974 box it's insane to get a reward for working more than 10 years for a company that you no longer want to work for ... |

Dworzec - Untitled
https://www.discogs.com/Dworzec-Untitled/release/575402 I have no memory of how this record came to be in my collection, or even if I had ever heard of this group prior to owning this CD. All I know about it is that I have it, and then I read on discogs today that Dworzec were an Australian band from the late 90s who put out another record on Peter Stapleton's Mentonymic label a few years after this one. Anyway, it's a fairly decent post Dead C ambient clatter of the type you might have read about in Bananafish Magazine. My son even improvised some vocals as the CD was playing this morning. |
Weyes Blood - The Innocents
Neil Young + Stray Gators - Tuscaloosa |
Spiderbait - Ivy and the Big Apples
The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys 2 for $50 vinyl deal at JB Hi-Fi |
