i get it that we're having 2 separate conversations out of sync

to the other one, i'll add-- it was *hilarious* to see mcpoyle in it. my suspension of disbelief was suspended and i thought he was gonna fuck that hamster.

halfway through the season of fargo. it's pretty good stuff and i like watching the local landmarks, i should have really tried to get hired for this one

Rob Instigator 08.20.2014 10:10 AM

I enjoyed the Fargo.

watched the BBC miniseries Neverwhere based on Neil Gaiman's book yesterday with my wife. had read the book a long time ago. I like BBC adaptations, because what they lack in set design and special effects they make up for in acting ability and dramatic tension!

tesla69 08.22.2014 09:47 AM

I'm really pleased that "they" are rebooting The Equalizer. Not sure if Denzel Washington is the best replacement - Woodward will always be the real Equalizer - but at least the movie will be guaranteed have a lot of explosions with Washington in it.

But there is a really good novel written by one of the series creators now out, its a real page turner and I really don't want to do much other than read this thing - at the same time I don't want it to end - its that enjoyable.

And here in the states, Season 2 of the original tv series will be out next week, and as I recall that is the best season. You gotta love Mickey Kostmayer, who looks like a total slob, driving around in a falling-apart panel van full of automatic weapons and grenades in 80's NYC. This was a total urban fear show, and I think a kind of "western" - good guys vs bad guys and lots of shoot 'em up.

evollove 08.22.2014 10:37 AM

^ I've never seen the show but I vaguely recall it from my youth. I'll check it out.

Meanwhile: Barely Legal Pawn, feat. Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Julia Louis-Dreyfus

pretty funny

So many good shows this year I might, for the first time ever, watch the Emmys.

Nefeli 08.26.2014 04:48 PM

The Killing IV
one of the best finales ever. <3

ilduclo 08.26.2014 04:54 PM

Shameless, pretty funny. Most of the series is on youtube

Nefeli 09.09.2014 10:48 AM

Sherlock.

* i want to marry him.

Rob Instigator 09.09.2014 11:28 AM

Me and Mrs. Instigator binge watched the Sherlock. I loved it, as I love most things Holmes (HATED the Downey Jr. "films")

I am re-watching all the episodes of Peep Show.

stu666 09.10.2014 12:58 AM

The Kate Bush Story

Rob Instigator 10.13.2014 08:29 AM

Bing watched Peakey Blinders with the wife this weekend

saw season 1 of house of lies and it wasn't bad. will try season 2.

season 2 of justified is my background noise to do paperwork.

lucky louie (only 13 episodes exist) was amazing. i'd rewatch all over right now.

Nefeli 10.14.2014 01:20 AM

transparent.

Nefeli 10.31.2014 04:23 PM

LOL ben from buffy plays in 'how to get away with murder'.
knew had seen him somewhere before!

gmku 11.06.2014 11:22 AM

We're on a Netflix marathon run through Gilmore Girls. Into Season 2 right now. Sookie is downright annoying, and almost makes me want to shut it all down, but we persist because the rest of it is somehow addictive.

tw2113 12.10.2014 10:38 PM

Just recently finished Black Adder series 1-4, nearly done with My So-Called Life and Twin Peaks.

Baldrick 4 lyfe! Him and Flashheart are the best characters.

I think I preferred the first 2 seasons most, in immediate retrospect.

LifeDistortion 12.11.2014 07:25 PM

Watched the first season of Black Mirror, it's been some time since I've watched a sci-fi show that really grabbed me. There are a lot of comparisons to The Twilight Zone, or something William Gibson would write, pretty dark stuff.

Severian 12.12.2014 02:45 PM

The girlfriend and I finally got a chance to check this out.
Two days later,
all but 2 episodes devoured in mesmerized late night viewing sessions.
Beginning to question solidity and reality of own existence; symptoms of paranoid schizophrenia beginning to appear in both of us.

God damn this is a brilliant mother fucking show.

thanks for the recco. I found 2 seasons worth on youtube. I liked the weekly wipe, so nice to see Mr Booker keeping busy

Ok, finished the first season.

I won't lie; there were some tears. I can't imagine what will transpire in the second series, and I don't even really want to think about it. I need to let this one simmer in my subconscious for a while...

I could tell based on the first advertisements for this show that it would get to me. You know, I'm always drawn to films, literature and television shows that address the relationship between “good” and “evil” within the context of the individual. Anything else, any hero story that infuses the protagonist in light, while portraying the antagonist as the embodiment of evil is nothing more than fantasy. (Not that there's anything wrong with fantasy, mind you. It has its place, and I adore it as a vehicle for more simplistic story telling.)

This show paint no pretty pictures... Of anything. The fact that the hero is a bitter, broken, manipulative nihilist with no mercy, and a conscience that has accepted violence and sin as a means to an end.... And the fact that he's the sane one.. Well, it makes for a powerful narrative.

I'm always late to the party because I haven't owned a working TV in years. But over the past decade I've basically only found 3 U.S. shows that have really grabbed me. Lost, Breaking Bad & True Detective.

... What's this Black Mirror y'all are talking about?

ilduclo 12.13.2014 02:17 PM

I got the Black Mirror here, 2 seasons,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhHLlpoN8tI

and a descripto is here

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2085059/?ref_=nv_sr_1

so, I've watched 3 out of the 6 Black Mirrors......not real good, IMO. I think that Charlie Booker's reach exceeds his grasp here. He's a good comedy writer. Futuristic dystopias? Nope....

It wasn't that good. If anything the last episode was a massive let down.

LifeDistortion 12.13.2014 02:46 PM

Both seasons of Black Mirror are available on U.S. Netflix.

Well, I kind of agree on that. No character background on that “Yellow King” who was such a terrifying prospect. In my imagination, things were developing into something much different than a Silence of the Lambs-style stand off.

... But I do tend toward histrionics and hyperbole.

The first 7 episodes were brilliant though. And really it's more McConaughey's performance than anything else that I find so impressive.

my life is without meaning due to the impending end of the amazing race, no survivor or anything for SIX FUCKING MONTHS. can't wait for my kitchen rules. welcome 2 my life.

Took a break from indie flicks to watch a few SOPRANOS. Every superlative has already been used for the show, and deservedly so. To call it the greatest televised drama is like saying WIZARD OF OZ is entertaining or that Beethoven wrote some good tunes.

And it struck me that playing Tony probably took a few years off the too-short life of Gandolfini. The brutal shooting schedule, all the emotional requirements, especially the dark, dark places he had to access...it took its toll on the man, I think.

ha ha, damn, yeah, he was "forced"!

the guy died on a trip to italy, after a massive pigout-- just like tim russert.

of course italians have always known that kind of eating can kill you, and even made a movie about it (french co-production)

fun movie btw. not "great" as a work of art, but memorable and illuminating nevertheless.

Rob Instigator 12.22.2014 10:51 AM

can't choke on fruit when eating thick Italian pussy

lately i've binged on 2 good shows

1) "marco polo." a netflix thing. lots of bullshit, but lots of fun-- war, martial arts, many naked ladies (and a fat man), politics and plotting. a kind of updated "shogun" (westerner arrives to the east etc). highly entertaining if you embrace the schlock/porn aspect of it all.

2) "boss." oh damn oh damn oh damn. such a shame this show was cancelled after 2 seasons. before seeing this i used to hate kelsey grammer's screen persona. now no more. yes it will leave you hanging but so what? it will make "house of cards" look like a kindergarten playground.

evollove 01.05.2015 11:47 AM

^ Hilarious. After HOUSE I thirsted for more political drama and came across this. What a great character. Too bad about the show. I'm guessing ratings slipped, they "re-tooled" and fucked it all up. Very good first season, though.

How come nthe image for MARCO POLO on Netflix looks like Peter Dinklage?

Nefeli 01.06.2015 03:17 AM

'happy valley' was great and for all the right reasons.

evollove 01.06.2015 08:40 AM

Trying to find a good political drama, I started MADAM SECRETARY with Tea Leoni. It was good but I swear I can't watch network TV anymore. Things just don't look right. It's not the absence of tits and fucks. Something else. Some gross gloss they put over everything.
