![]() Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross's third film score to be nominated for (and hopefully win a Golden Globe), and very likely his third to be nominated (hopefully second to win) an Academy Award) in less than four years. In a way, Trent has become the most successful and adaptive of all the late '80s/early '90s alt rock proto-alt rockers. I mean.... look at Billy Corgan and Scott Weiland in comparison. I'll bet they can't even afford tuxedos. This is an excessively claustrophobic piece of music. I haven't seen the film, but having read the book I can feel the story building as the layers of normality shrivel and fall away, revealing a rotting core. It's less sprawling and ballsy than The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but far more focused. It's also super well-priced. Grabbed mine for $9.99. |
Had no real Xmas - just a few dinners with both families. So no gifts, and as a result (obviously) no new music acquired by NOT buying.
But I did raid a new store. A great store with row after row of used CD's, like Sonic Boom or Half Price Books in the days of old. I picked up Prince's Sign O' The Times, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Nocturama, Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear, a few Neil Young & Crazy Horse joints that I've had in formats other than CD, but was totally stoked to find again. The Cure - Galore (because whatever, it's the Cure!) |
kinda unremarkable but gene always sounds good

Are you kidding me? That's a bigger Christmas celebration than I've had in about two decades. |

Well, I'm in a long term relationship but we don't have kids. We're both busy and stressed and live in a metro area, while our families live in small towns several hours away. I had one dinner with one part of her family, and she had one dinner with my folks. She had about nine other obligations and instead of making the rounds I spent that time helping my mother put up a ceiling in the basement of her house. All I meant was that there wasn't a turkey, tree, gift, snowflake in sight. No cards or "Mery Christmas" wishes. Just one dinner with my partner and my folks, and a dinner with her mother's cousins. It was basically just a weekend in the country. I don't know why I said several dinners. Must have been thinking of all the stuff my girlfriend did when I was doing manual labor for my mom and helping her fix her MacBook. Truly magical. |

This whole shit sounds like complete HELL to me. :D Relationships are BULLCRAP - ya gotta share the remote, share the bathroom, one goddamn compromise after another... Fuck all that! |

http://svartrecords.com/shoppe/2978-...pollo-lp-7.jpg It´s Finnish progrock band (more rock than prog) from 1970, only album they made. Reissue with yellow vinyl, gatefold cover and inserts. I really love Svart Records! Here is one piece from album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Haah6vy5TgM |
Just listened whole Apollo album first time (I´ve heard before only that Ajatuksia-song I put here). And it´s more prog than I thought & the vinyl is green (Kalevala has yellow vinyl). Anyway really great album! Edward Vesala was one of the greatest Finnish drummer ever!

Wow, quite the deal. Online or from a store? |

There's a midwest chain called "The Exchange." A ton of used stuff, one buck on up. I got a gift certificate and after a minute in the place felt stupid for never having gone before. It has rekindled my love of going to a music store, browsing and buying. It's the little things, you know. I feel like a kid again. Now I'm starting a CD collection! In 2015. Who would've thunk it? Is there a really good, dirt cheap online store anyone can recommend? |
Quote:
Never heard of this chain--from Cleveland down to Canton, but not in Cincinnati. We need one here. I've probably driven past one of their Indianapolis locations without realizing it--will have to check them out the next time I'm in Indy. Since the demise of lala.com, I'm unaware of any online shop that has consistently low CD prices. Amazon has some deals, but from vendors other than Amazon itself. The $3.98 shipping and handling might put you off, though. Half Price Books' website has some deals as well sometimes. |

Ok, so who's this Midnite fellow and why does he have an E-40 complex? |
Quote:
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but have you heard the album before? Are you a Liars fan in general? If you've not heard the album, but like the band, I am genuinely envious of you. Sometimes great bands go from plain old "great" to over the fucking moon, and DND is one of the best examples of this I think I've ever encountered. |
Quote:
I never bothered to read your location. I'm in Canton! Neat. Anyway, the campus area doesn't have a cool used store? Apparently rampant homophobia isn't your city's only problem. |
Quote:
Mole's used to be in the UC campus area--not sure if they're still there because I very seldom go to the area anymore. All of the cool music clubs are now in other parts of town. Shake It Records in the increasingly trendy (but still somewhat rough) Northside area has a huge new and used selection but one of the owners is a total dick. I prefer Everybody's Records in Pleasant Ridge, not far off of I-71 for people who might be in the area. Your homophobia comment is old news--the city has made a lot of progress in the last few years, to the point where a lot of gay leaders have praised the city. You can google all of this. But yes, Cincinnati still has some problems, unlike Canton which has nothing but problems. :fuckyou: Just kidding. Let me know if you'll be in Columbus or Cleveland for a show. We could get together beforehand to hoist a couple and talk music. |

Ha! Didn't mean to offend your city pride. I have zero, so there isn't much anyone can say about this shitpit I'd disagree with. Anyway, glad "you" evolved (as if a city is a monolith with one brain). Quote:
Look forward to it. I see the Grog Shop in Cleveland will have the Church in early March, and Gang of Four a few days later. What year is this? |
Picked up a few things in Houston last Thursday:
Bedhead Box Set ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Picked up Queen's "A Kind of Magic" and the musical score to season 1 of "Game of Thrones"

Bought a reissue of Computer World just kinda because.
Well, more because I love Kraftwerk and this album in particular... Also because it's one of the few reissues I didn't previously own, and it was going for $5.00 at some used music store... But there "just because" definitely had something to do with it. |
