I'd record my music and set up a Myspace but Audacity doesn't want to cooperate.

Last night I rpetty much locked myself into being in a band I had never heard.
Big mistake... they sound like a worse version of Cat Butt (band) So yeah I have that to look forward to... |
kick them into gear then

An excellent cover version, Cantankers - I always love covers which aren't simply straightforward retellings of the original. You original songs are really enjoyable too - very narcotic and woozy, if that's not too cliched a thing to say. |

always nice to hear good things i have a plan when i get back to new york i'm going to gather up a few of my musically competent cohorts and we're going to play and play and play and then one day, when we get it together enough, we're going to play a live show and cover dark side of the moon in its entirety (if i can find someone who can sing great gig in the sky because i sure as fuck can't). pompousity at it's best. |
w/ careful with that axe, eugene encore
that would be sooooooo cool careful, careful..... careful...... with that axe, eugene..... WAAAAAAGHAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH |

great cover! |

Its one of those bands where no one has an ounce of charisma |
Quote:
Unless you're the drummer. Then you might have a problem. |
unfortunately i am not at all charismatic and terrible at being interviewed. also terribly shy in front of video cameras. you won't see me being interviewed on youtube anytime soon.
|
If I could find more people to actually start a band with, that's something I would work on. I'm afraid to get on stage, but if I had a group to support me, I could do it. I can do it for acting stuff, and I'm scared to death until I get up there.
I think being shit-crazy on stage combined with really shy off stage is a great image, and very doable for shy people, since when you get used to the stage you can let loose a lot more than "real life". |
it's official, monosodic's first ever gig will happen on jul. 31
anyone from mexico reading, there's also going to be a surprise live set of I/C/O/C in collaboration wation with the new parallelogrammers. i'm expecting to finish monosodic's gno ep pretty soon and then the recording of pubic mohawk will start. there's tons of I/C/O/C cd-rs that will be released in the coming months. |
for me, playing to an audience on stage with a band is nothing. they may as well not even be there, there's no real emotional connection (again, this is just me) and there's less pressure on you as an individual, even if you're the so called "leader" because there are other people up there with you to lighten the load..it's way harder for me to just sit and play and sing by myself to one person or five people, no matter how well or how long i've known them.
if i were to be interviewed in a group setting with a band i would just let someone else do most of the talking because i have a problem with talking about my work. i can't listen to it after i finish it either. it would be like watching myself act. |

Yep. I can't sing in front of my parents. At all. Ever.
|
i'm having an argument about whether i will be able to succeed in the music business.
hahaha. some people don't realise what a manipulative, backstabbing hosebeast i can be. intelligence + tenacity + creativity = success. |
Haha. I wish I had the tenacity. I've about given up on that for myself, but I still try. I think I waited to long to get serious about it. Everyone I know is all college and stuff, now. Business majors. Fuck that. The only guy I've played with who went in the right direction disappeared off the face of the planet. For all know he's dead.

speaking of tenacity. if this doesn't describe me perfectly. i don't know what would. jeebus. |
My ascendent is supposed to be Leo, but that doesn't describe me at all. It's like the opposite.
|
i do I/C/O/C by myself, live and on record, and while yeah there's this "oh fuck what am i going to do?" feeling before every show, i usually go nuts and have a blast. i don't second guess it.
|
did you enter what time you're actually born or did you leave it at 12:00
because it changes every hour or two |
Yeah I did. Gemini 9:45 AM. I'm definitely a Gemini ascendant, if going by accuracy.
|
based upon what i see here that's a fair assumption
|
So you've said.
I'm apparently more transparent online. Or it might just be miss analytical Scorpio and her obsession with horoscopes. The Scorpio list of less-than-desirable traits is awesome. I'm jealous. You should be proud of every one. But now we know you're all emotional at heart. Weak. |
i am extremely analytical
scorpio is my rising sign pisces is my sun sign but the scorp description fits me to a t,. |

most of the tracks are some friends and I just messing around if you do bother to check it out, listen to &, happy, and nt8 (on page 2) and let me know what you think also, the recording quality sucks, so be prepared to adjust the volume |

If I ever have a civil partnership, I humbly request that you fly over to the Yoo-Kay to sing that to me and my beloved (fuck the God-bothering nonsense). You will of course be paid handsomely for your efforts (ie no more post-dated cheques, first class from NYC to London, etc) Hmm....looks like I better start saving up for that now!
|
i would do it for free
i've got a bit of trouble hitting the really high notes though |
Ah, you're too kind, sweetie. The only way I could reciprocate is coming to your wedding and playing Skullflower cover versions to you and your hubby on your big day.....hmmm, maybe not, eh? :D
Boring Melly-nostalgia time: My Dad usd to play that LP wayyyy back in the 70's, and I LOVED Claire Torry's voice on "Great Gig....". Come 1988, and I was knee deep in Big Black/SY/Butthole Surfers, and it was de rigeur for the indie-punk types to sneer at that LP. Being a sheep at the time, I joined in the anti-PF baaing, but I always had a soft spot for that tune (that, and "On The Run") - thank Christ for growing up, stopping being a oafish twat, and being able to enjoy tunes like that again....I have a theory about "the kids" having far more diverse and unbigoted tastes today than they did in my day, but I won't bore you with that now. |
clare torry has absolutely the most beautiful voice my ears have ever heard
i'm going to practice up on that song, learn how to hit the high notes and get a bit of the scratchiness of my voice out before i grow the balls to sing it live like bob dylan says, "you can make your voice do anything you want it to" |
Bob Dylan hasn't heard Melly murdering songs at Melly Towers, or at a stag do in Brighton last week (My mate Martin (he who was just in Berlin) was there too, and he took the piss out of me last night for "singing" the guitar solo on "Ace Of Spades" at our karaoke session in Brighton. Oops :o)
I'm always impressed by people who can actually sing. Make sure you record yourself when you feel ready to kick out the jams on that one, live |
i will definitely record it
once i get it down good enough i'll do it in garage band and post it this is brilliant, by the way, even though it's the australian pink floyd. http://youtube.com/watch?v=InOpOHfSt40&feature=related |
God, that's so beautiful I felt like crying. Thanks for making an old geezer's day, Cantanky :)
I missed the Aussie PF this time round, but am definitely going to see 'em in 2009. |
oz pink floyd are excellent at what they do, but when they play careful with that axe, eugene no one screeches in the middle of it!
|
What??? Well, I hope you screeched in the middle of it for them. You could get away with it by saying you were jamming on one with the band, kind of like a performance art piece.
|
if they need to hire someone to do that screech i'd be the one to do it
because i know how waters did it you see, instead of exhaling, you have to keep your vocal chords open and inhale but at the same time just let it out it's very difficult, but it sounds extremely demonic if done properly |
Yeah, it does sound hellish, espesh on "Live at Pompeii". You can do that, too? Me impressed.
On the female singer front, check out the first Patty Waters LP on ESP. The last song, "Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Hair" is devastating - powerful and emotive. You'd love it. |
