right! they did the same thing with "weeds"-- started funny, they squeezed some juice out of it, then it dried up but they kept squeezing anyway, and it got so stupid and absurd as to be completely unwatchable. |
Les Revenants, pretty nice! Very well acted and filmed, fucking spooky!

I enjoy watching Nurse Jackie. "Comedy meets drama in this quirky Showtime offering
which spotlights the versatility of actress Edie Falco. Set in a New York City hospital, this half-hour single camera comedy is about a strong-willed woman balancing a hectic work life with a complex personal life, all the while fighting the health care system along the way." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1190689/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Spy also, a British situation comedy. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2086606/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3 |
watched the entire second season of orange is the new black on the weekend. soooo good.
also, major crimes is back!!! (and pretty little liars :D ) |
last week i caught up with true blood season meh. i mean 6. hbo is pulling a showtime here--that shit needs to end. the only good thing about it was the titties-- and the manbutt for those who like that, i suppose. really fucking stupid show-- it was always going to be a bit campy and absurd but now it's just retarded. they should just cut the "story" and fill the hour with soft porn with commentary by lafayette.

Louie has been on a serious roll this year.
|
fargo; along with true detective, the best things we've seen on the telly these past years and miles away from what we have considered and have been good series.

This eye-opening documentary delves into the secretive world of 'female masking', where men transform themselves into dolls by squeezing into a second skin.
Female maskers, also known as 'dolls', are a hidden community of ordinary family men who lead extraordinary double lives, dressing up in elaborate rubber suits as they strive to become their own ideal fantasy woman. There are thousands of female maskers all over the world, but most have kept their secret behind closed doors. This documentary enters this private world, meeting the men coming to terms with what has, for many, become an all-consuming hobby, spending thousands of hours and hundreds of pounds creating their alter-egos. Seventy-year-old Robert lives in a suburban mansion in California. After ten years of marriage, he was recently divorced. He now shares his house with his teenage daughter and keeps his hobby private. For six years, Robert has spent every spare moment becoming 'Sherry'. Having spent years doing this in private, Robert has made a big decision: soon he will take Sherry into the big wide world for the first time, when he attends a secret gathering of female maskers in Minneapolis, Rubberdoll Rendezvous. The organiser of the Rubberdoll Rendezvous is Jon, aka 'Jennifer', a forklift operator and father of six. British bartender Joel and his girlfriend Mel are moving in together for the first time. Until now, Joel has hidden his 15 years of female masking from his parents, but with his newfound freedom he intends to make up for lost time. His first challenge is to reveal his alter ego, 'Jessie', to his closest friends. But their emotional reaction isn't quite what he expected. The film also meets the manufacturers, Femskin, a family-run firm in America's Bible Belt who developed an ultra-light wearable female body-suit and who are struggling to keep up with demand. http://www.channel4.com/programmes/s.../episode-guide |

just watched the season finale of the real housewives of new york
I CAN'T STOP LAUGHING |
finished season 1 of true detective the other day. it'd been days already but i'm still… impressed. as i've said elsewhere, nightmare-inducing and very disturbing but also very well put together in every sense. better than going to the movies.
now watching season 2 of the (american) house of cards. so far it continues to be great. fans of david fincher should check it out-- he directed the first couple of episodes but "executive produces" (that's a very vague title so who knows how far his influence goes-- i think it's at least in the titles ha ha ha) the rest of the series. |
parks and recreation.
penny dreadful was ok too. |

Mang, I loved this fucking show in 2005 and I haven't seen it since then, been watching random episodes lately, I love it now almost as much! Same thing, I used to watch reruns of the X-Files all the time back in like 2001 but I haven't watched it since, and I was too intimidated to pick episodes on Netflix until I just decided to dive in, no regrets, and my fucking mind HAS BEEN BLOWN! |
Apart from the Commonwealth Games, we're going through the set of Homicide: Life on the Streets, one of televisions most magnificent gems.

i'm honestly curious about why you liked it. maybe i should have persevered against my total displeasure. Quote:
mine was probably 3 (brother mouzone!!) but 2 was a nice detour in the narrative that set up all the connections to the bigger world. |
it's a very religiously accurate soap opera, with all the more criminal-minded characters done by all the best 70s actors
|
Which TV show most accurately represents your idea of how Washington DC works?
VEEP - Completely selfish, cruel people with no real values or loyalty, but often brought down by incompetence or the inability to deal with unexpected events HOUSE OF CARDS - Brilliant strategists two steps ahead of everyone else, mixed with dullards who are easy to manipulate. Murder to protect/advance career not out of the question. WEST WING - Generally principled people who sometimes do the right thing, sometimes end up doing the wrong thing, but they usually try to make a decent effort. In the end, they are probably more principled than politically savvy. Also, very charming. |

oh i see what you mean. i do remember the soap opera aspect of it. i don't know how accurate it was but mang i really hated everyone there so i stopped. Quote:
ha ha ha-- good characterizations there. having lived there, i've met all 3 kinds. well, not the murderers, at least not in person (e.g. prick cheney) but the idealists, the narcissists, the power-lusty, the vapid, the sadists, the sycophants, the slaves, they're all there. /*******SPOILERS****** one character in house of cards has defied my attempts to decipher him and that is/was stamper. what the fuck is/was his deal? *******SPOILERS******/ |
^ If Stampers exist, I don't think you're supposed to know about them.
But they probably don't. I like that show a lot, but it's right on the edge of being very silly. I'm not convinced there's a genius like Frank Underwood in Congress. Seems most politicians are desperately trying to keep their head above water and can't conceive of two steps ahead. Most are two steps behind, and I don't think many have a grand scheme because things move and change so fast, there's no point. |
on the edge maybe, but it hasn't jumped the shark yet. has it? i enjoyed season 2 a lot. especially in the metro station, mmhuahahahahahahaa...
what i mean about stamper is-- what the fuck makes him tick? why so loyal? the other dude (the new dude) i get it he wants power and he'll bend over as deep as he needs in order to learn it, but stamper i don't know. as for frank underwoods out there-- i don't know because if they are we're not supposed to know about them either, no?-- until they get caught anyway |
I might re-watch TRUE DETECTIVE.
Every scene crackles with dramatic tension, great acting, dialogue, etc. Can't say enough good things about it. Except: **spoilers** By episode 4 I was getting a little lost. By the end, I had no idea what was going on, and I'm still not sure how they found the bad guy. I watched that scene two or three times and I still scratched my head. Someone (who?) got their house painted. Huh? I think the series should've been shorter. Four episodes maybe. There are so many tangents and subplots and red herrings, and so many characters we're supposed to remember. Should've boiled it down to something more manageable. The chopped-up timeline doesn't help. Even the title is confusing. Who is the "true" detective? Is the other one "false"? I don't get it. If I do re-watch it, I might have to take notes. I know film is supposed to be the new literature, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that. |
I don't know. Frank Underwood would've laughed off Watergate and put out a hit on Woodward and Bernstein. Or maybe just hire some hookers to ruin their reputation.
If there is a Richard III in Washington, he does a great job keeping under the radar. I'm so sexist. Maybe it's a woman. Elizabeth Warren? |
what? no! the chopped up timeline works great. all is clear as fuck. maybe add subtitles to get through their hick accents. it's what i do.
