![]() ![]() Just got these, La Strega... never showed up on the Forced Exposure site, so I just got it on discogs.com from a US seller, later saw some at the Amoeba store. It is my favorite of the two, two long pieces on the A side and covers on the B side, including some of my favorite Brittish folk and folk-rock songs. I am already a fan of that material, it was awesome to hear Dylan cover them. Since no one else seems to mention that kind of stuff here, here are links to some of the originals, or as one is traditional, the sources Dylan likely heard them from. Reynardine (Traditional): Fairport Convention: http://youtu.be/O3RMut_8IxQ Anne Briggs: http://youtu.be/zf4Va2Leutc Shirley Collins & Davy Graham:http://youtu.be/kZ9zO15Mw-c Night Comes In (Richard Thompson): Richard Thompson, Live, 1975: http://youtu.be/qrhMTd1SXPc This one I hadn't heard before, but sounds cool: Little Woman (Dave Mason): Mr. Fox: http://youtu.be/jTc6IdyXuoo Dave Mason with Family: http://youtu.be/URu1d6bgaPY I'll let you find the Kinks and PJ Harvey songs on your own... The double 7inch was less engaging to me, ambient guitar playing with spoken word. Glad there is a second disc with instrumentals. |
Got a few today.
Wicked Lady - The Axeman Cometh (holy fuck is this incredible) Northern Haze - Sinnaktuk (arctic-circle Inuit garage metal, anyone?) Jerusalem - S/T (1972 UK heavy rock LP produced by Ian Gillan) and I aso bought a used copy of Thunderbolt Pagoda's "Second Ascension" because it was there and cheap and I don't have very many left) |

I saw this documentary on them: http://www.isuma.tv/igloolikmiut/liv...-northern-haze |
Yeah, as far as I know they really are. I am going to pick up the second volume of these recordings ASAP. Pricey, but double albums and very nicely done.
TP are recording in February with the same great engineer who did the last one. Plus this time we can cut our own master lacquers at our studio thanks to my bandmate Ralph and our engineer friend Bobby's efforts at getting Ralph's cutting lathe back up (and beyond) industry standards. Cover art by none other than Nefeli also! |

[EDIT] I am retardedly excited about the new Low album. Especially since the thing is sitting on my computer, half unheard, available to me any time...but I'm waiting for the actual record to come out, so I can listen guilt free.
Also have retribution gospel choir's 3 coming, though I can't remember when it's due or who I ordered it from. Gearing up for the show next month. |

Stopped in at "Other Music" today (best record store in Manhattan possibly world, amazing selection of rare shit, electronic, noise rock n rawwwwl, really nice unpretentious staff and a hot blonde working the register, heaven)
Bobby Womack-110 st OST used cd Dead Moon-Dead Ahead cd Ty Segall-Would you Be my Love 7" Pink Reason-Negative Guest List jukebox single 7" People talk about the cost of living in NYC and yeah it's bad, but the fact that I am constantly bombarded by amazing music stores, cool clothes that I just need to rock (like three leather jackets, and a Marc Jacobs corduroy thingy, I only wear that one really, its effin cold right now), amazing restaurants, and unlimited access to lovely drugs. It's more about everything being so readily available that makes it hard to budget. Oh well, it's fun as fuck. |
I went to the records store this weekend and used up some of the gift card my bro gave me.
While I was shopping I found out they had a flash sale going on that took off 25% from any new LP's. sweet! Too bad the record store, while nice, really has a selection more suited to someone starting out with a record collection. Either way, I bough this. Big Black - Pigpile ![]() Parliament Funkadelic - Uncut Funk Greatest Hits ![]() (with the discount these were only about $7 each!) and I got 5-6 7 " singles a Bikini Kill - Rebel Girl AC/DC - Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap b/w Highway to Hell Missing Persons - Words Max Headroom - Merry Christmas Santa Claus ($.99) and one or two I cannot remember... |
I bought two albums because I was in one of those "Because fuck you, that's why" moods.
Widespread panic- earth to America Jarvis humbly- assume the position Both under a dollar, and both had cool covers, and I'd never heard either album once. So I said fuck it. ... And they both suck. |
