I'm looking for a good envelope filter too - there was one I used years ago in a band that was borrowed and it had a maaaasive sweep(did't always have to be, but it had the widest range I've ever heard of one), the ones I've used since aren't like that. I think it was a DOD but this was about 10 years ago before I knew/ cared much about gear.

Two octaves up is a hard one...either a whammy or some kind of pitch shifter, but most will sound really metallic and fake...or you could check out an Electro Harmonix Pog Or Hog, good reputation but those a pricey.

What does an envelope filter actually do?

so here's the rest of my wishlist to complete my pedalboard with:

-a natural sounding flanger, the dod flanger (white box) is cheap but i can't find sound samples, electric mistress is nice but huge and i don't want to spend that much on a huge ass flanger...

- a delay, simple delay below €100, small, just for basic delay stuff

-a replacement for my dano pepperoni phaser, someting that works better with bass...must be capable of doing extreme swooshy phaser sounds

-a very responsive envelope filter/auto-wah, considered a dr.Q first but it's not very agressive/over the top..so i heard, can't find the guyatone bottom wah rocker, i don't need the 'drive' option on the micro Qtron..., digitech envelope synth wah seems cool but again..it's a digitech.. and it's a synth ..thing..heh

The mistress isnt big! Its hardly bigger than a Muff! Get a whammy, Small Stone, Lovetone Meatball (If you have the money, if not get a Q tron or a Bass Balls, that thing is mean) And yey, go for the Whammy

It sweeps a filter to the intensity of your pick attack.

heavium 04.10.2007 02:59 PM

haha, Buzzo,

i don't wanna end up like that youtoob 'TOOLbassplayer' (with all respect, i did enjoy his chancellor pedalboard tour)
esp. with a whammy there... i dunno, my band does sound a bit tool-ish, it's bass driven rock after all, with some technical stuff here and there, people have told me that my sound' (whatever that is) reminds them of tool, it's a compliment because i like tool, but then again, it's just unavoidable, i have lots of treble in my settings (max actually), lots of dirt in certain parts, play with a plectrum most of the time (after three non-plectrum-years, haha) and my playing can be..erm..agressive, i tend to play chords (sometimes a bit too much) and my strings are never older than two months, haha

anyway.. the whammy is not a priority, also quite exspensive since i'd only use it like twice during a set, but it's nice to toy around with because you can do weird stuff with it, i'd feel like a spoiled little kid getting a new toy

so after the SA and LS i'm in the market for a flanger, delay and some sort of wah..just not a silly wah pedal..i never liked those..have tried them but they're not my kind of thing..
i really liked that guyatone bottom wah rocker, from what i've heard, and it's tiiiiny, but it's discontinued so ..hard to find..
the big muff takes up a lot of space on my pedalboard, i'd trade it for a little big muff anytime..seriously..i love the way it looks tho, but with a few pedals of that size on my board i wouldn't have any room to move around during gigs at smaller clubs and with four other bandmembers they'd prolly be stomping on my board all the time, haha...

an envelope filter sound s a bit more spontaneous than an auto wah, it responds more to your playing dynamics, then again, it's different from brand to brand, model to model, i saw a very old dod for sale today, some kind of baby blue color..i just want a wah that can sound a bit over the top when needed

king_buzzo 04.10.2007 03:10 PM

Yeah DOD filters can be awesome

heavium 04.10.2007 04:05 PM

this model, pretty old i guess, but the finish looked more blue-ish..could've been just the picture tho..
there's a more recent dod wah that has a light metallic blue finish, i'm not very familiar with dod, they're cheap but sometimes more exspensive isn't always better either, just depends on your taste, only downer about bosses, digitechs, dods, behringers and the like is that they CAN suck tone.. but hey..

king_buzzo 04.10.2007 04:15 PM

Never seen those before. The green ones are quite nice though.

CHOUT 04.10.2007 09:15 PM

I found one of these at a pawn shop today, It's alright. I think I may return it and get a Boss Bass OD instead though.

Danny Himself 04.10.2007 09:16 PM

Cool. Whats your opinion on me buying a duo-sonic, Chout? Is £180 too much to pay?

soapbars 04.10.2007 09:29 PM

what condition is it in? because that sounds like a bargain to me,

More info? Coincidentally, my uncle borrowed me his '64 for about a year when I first started...there were two different styles, and in the 60s it was redesigned to be basically a mustang without a vibrato...My friend in another band bought a reissue one (looked more like a 50's one) that seemed pretty nice for the $120 he paid for it. Seems like a good price though if it's in good shape.

Danny Himself 04.10.2007 09:34 PM

It's a '93 mexican... red. Perfect condition by the looks of it. I've been looking for a cheap shortscale for a while.

Grab it, mang. Shortscales are nice and comfy.

CHOUT 04.10.2007 09:42 PM

Like this then:

This went for $230 us recently...

Danny Himself 04.11.2007 06:22 AM

Yeah exactly like that, except for the sticker. I should go for it.. *fidgets*

king_buzzo 04.11.2007 02:15 PM

Go for it, fucking now!

Danny Himself 04.11.2007 02:22 PM

Yeah, I'm gonna go for it. Thanks for the advice folks.

CHOUT 04.13.2007 01:52 AM

Anyone buy any gear lately? I haven't in 2 days...

I did my taxes though, and I'm getting back $800...

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 04.13.2007 02:03 AM

I'm thinking about either getting an mp3 player or a flanger at the end of the month.

I think I'm gonna go for the mp3 player honestly because I'm going on a trip soon and I'm gonna need some tunes and because an mxr flanger won't fit on my board (I'm gonna have to build a bigger one.)

MP3 players are great...you won't regret it, as long as you don't lose it (mine is a big Creative Zen and is bigger than a credit card - i like it that way). I have about 7,000 songs on it.

I like the Boss flanger, if you are looking for something smaller. I recall you hate boss though...

Why? If it's your money...

king_buzzo 04.14.2007 02:59 AM

I know!!!!!!!! They're all like 'You need to learn how to save money son' and stuff.

I fucking saved up 750 euros last year and they're telling me that I dont know how to save up money! Fucking nonsense.

I might get away with buying just one pedal. All I need now is another muff, a new trem for my Jazzmaster, a flanger and a trem. Damnit.

Norma J 04.14.2007 03:01 AM

Any of you Sonic boardies got a US Jazz?

king_buzzo 04.14.2007 03:08 AM

The US JM's are way better. They look like real Jazzmasters with their chrome hardware and mint pickup guards. and the combination of Bridge+Trem Tailpiece works way better than with the CIJ models. The spring is stronger and the bridge is carefully done.

Norma J 04.14.2007 03:24 AM

But I has anyone here got one? It seems every Sonic boardmember has a Jazzmaster. I was curious if anyone had actually forked out the money for a US make or not?

king_buzzo 04.14.2007 03:32 AM

If you are living somewhere with low taxes then yes. The US ones here are double the price of the CIJ's. So that kept me from buying one. And in the US they're about 1200 which is not so so expensive.

MellySingsDoom 04.14.2007 04:22 AM

No Jazzmaster for me, but I do have a Fender Jaguar. Nice!

king_buzzo 04.14.2007 04:34 AM

Jazzmasters>Jaguars.

But yeah you do need the right eqipment to make a Jazzmaster sound like a real Jazzmaster. You cant just plug in in a crappy 5 watt amp and expect it to sound legendary

heavium 04.14.2007 06:45 AM

totally

i'm a lefty so it's kind of hard to get hold of stuff like that, the whole jag vs. jazzy thing is kind of silly, i like them both for different reasons, i like shortscalers but the jazzy can stand its ground a little bit better soundwise, my opinion, if you're going for a nice US RI like that you can't just plug it in to a crappy amp, agreed

personally i don't think the differences between a cij and mia reissue are worth the extra money, unless you can get it secondhand or, as mentioned before... outside this crap place where you pay more than double for a US one

also the service of fender (US) is very crappy over here, belgium is part of the uk fender headquarters ;) , so we kind of get all the scraps, i waited about a year for my american precision bass (lefty) whilst it only took two weeks to get my cij '69 mustang here after i ordered it.

i guess that, at some point, like when i've finished my studies and stuffs i would def. save up for 'the real deal' but it's not a must, the cij's ar just fine for the money i think

king_buzzo 04.14.2007 08:54 AM

No, dont give money to Belgian and Dutch music shop assholes. Jags and JM's are ridiculously fucking expensive in here. I have a deal waiting for me when i get back to serbia, a 90's USA Jag.

Danny Himself 04.14.2007 10:04 AM

I didn't get the Duo Sonic. Somebody bought it before I could. :[

If I had 800 or 900 dollars when I went into Pianos 'N Stuff I would. I found a sweet US reissue I wanted.

Danny Himself 04.14.2007 02:48 PM

MIJ Jazz for me, baby.

see ? i paid that much for a cij lefty '69 RI mustang (sonic blue)
europe eh..

anyway, a lot fo you prolly wouldn't give that much for a cij stang but i tell you what; getting that phonecall telling you it arrived at the store, going there all excited and stuff and then seeing this gorgeous lefty blue stang hanging there, waiting for you... it's feels..grand, then you just forget about teh $$
and honestly, it's my main guitar now, does what it has to do, rawk

btw, i think that if you have a shit musician playing an exspensive guitar thru a decent amp and a good musician playing a cheap guitar thru the same decent amp the cheap guitar played by the good musician will still sound better..

No. I was going to add if anybody had old originals. But then I thought I'd leave it open for both.

I'd love to see Blixa Bargeld's guitar collection.
